 I have been playing with the plasma cannon for a while, even though it is currently quite broken.
 
 Some problems I have noticed:
 - It is very hard to hit fast going vehicles with the plasma cannon (AV grenades seem better at AV then the plasma cannon).
 - The plasma cannon barely damage vehicles (AV grenades seem better at AV then the plasma cannon).
 - The weapon is good versus infantry, but it is very unforgiving: It is hard to recover if you do not hit infantry with direct or splash damage.
 
 My proposal is to implement 'exotic' variants of the plasma cannon. The variants that exist right now lay a foundation for these "specialization variants" that supposedly solve some of the problems above:
 
 Breach plasma cannon (Anti-vehicle plasma cannon variant)
 Higher direct damage, smaller splash radius and splash damage, faster projectile speed.
 
 Assault plasma cannon (Anti-infantry specialization of plasma cannon)
 Rapid reload plasma cannon with lower direct damage and higher splash damage and splash radius.
 
 In general, as proposed earlier (in some thread I cannot find anymore), the plasma cannon could also leave some kind of AOE effect on the ground where it hits for example an ionized gas cloud (due to the electrons/protons in the plasma beam interacting with the environment) . This would distinguish and make the plasma cannon less like the mass driver with one big shot, and more like a cool futuristic weapon.
 
 Another suggestion is that the trail after the plasma round is ionized gas that deals AOE damage.

 Yes, since there is no such weapon today. It should make the plasma cannon unique and give it a tactical specialization for taking out tanks at close range.
 
 However, maybe the metal of the target hit by the plasma projectile should start melting causing damage over time.
 
 A ground target AOE is not that great, now that I have thought about it: You can just ride away from it and not take any damage.

 I would like this thread to focus on discussions on how to make the plasma cannon a better weapon. It needs some tweaks really, not a complete overhaul.
 
 The area denial DOT weapon could be something else.
