With the triple SP event ending tonight, a great many Dust Bunnies (myself included) maxed out either a Suit, a Weapon, or both.
Now what?
The easy answer would be "Do another weapon" or "Do a different suit".... but then the game just becomes a grind to max out suits and weapons.
Now, to make this less "grind-y" and more tactical, what about adding weapons and armor that require level 5 in multiple racial skills?
For example, create a dropsuit that requires both gallente and minmitar skills to use? That has the minmitar speed and the gallente armor specs?
Or a combination Caldari and Amarr weapon, that does both Kin and EM damage types?
This game is quickly going to devolve into a skill maxing grind... but it would be way more pleasurable if there were items to use through cross-training.

In EVE there are pirate faction ships that usually require two sets of racial skills and are often hybrids between the two in terms of fitting paradigms. But they are often rare and obscenely expensive. |

Well you can always max out the skills that give you passive bonuses, have you maxed out Systems Hacking yet? Or maybe max modules out to proto tier if you haven't done so. |

If you have maxed out your core skills then its not that bad a grind for a new suit or wepon . Your in a good position if you have maxed out everything possible to benifit your proto. It should be only a few weeks and youll have a new proto wepon or suit to try . |

One day this will be a possibility. Many cross train in eve to fly a certain way or to be able to pilot special pirate ships that used the technology of 2 races , which required the mix of ship skills and gun skill to go with.

I won't cap out all my core/side skills till i'm at about 21 millions sp.
at that point I will likely take up a general use weapon like the AR, then begin speccing up the vehicle tree.
I might also detour before vehicles into a logi suit. |

Yep, Mach and Vindi make skilling multiple battleship skills more than worth it... due to the perishable nature of the dropsuits, we might have to have them be more common than faction or pirate ships.
That being said.... if you did enough faction warfare and got datacores (or something) in loot when you won... you might be able to trade them to the market in exchange for suits...
POOF.... faction warfare has a payoff! |

I'm honestly surprised when I see people say this sort of thing. Skill grinding has been a clear component of this game from the outset (at least since open beta...don't know about the closed iterations)...it seems to be a core component of the game's design.
My best guess is that you, and others who make similar statements, liked the frequent progress you make early in the game, when you're buying lower levels of cheaper skills...but when you're deep into the tree, everything is far more expensive to the point where it takes weeks to level something. If that's what you're getting at, I definitely agree, it feels like a slog. Any skill level that costs more than 500k SP is depressing and unfun to work toward.

I'm a long-time eve player, and I'm used to 30+ days worth of skilling. Battleship 5 is depressing, as are jump drive skills.
However, there is loads else to do within EVE, so that the skilling becomes secondary.
There is: Market PVP Missions Mining Low/Null sec ratting Pirating Pirate-hunting Factional Warfare etc.
There is loads of other content in EVE that offsets the grind of 30+ day skills.
All I'm getting to is that there needs to be more to Dust than a grind if it is going to have the same legs as EVE... |

If that's what you're getting at, I definitely agree, it feels like a slog. Any skill level that costs more than 500k SP is depressing and unfun to work toward. The skillsystem is made that way in order to make specialisations take time and effort. It does so by applying large diminishing returns. While i agree that active accumulation makes it seem like it's there to grind, the skillsystem really does its best not to be overly obtrusive while achieving it's goal.
And don't get caught in the "must have 5" fallacy unless you are engaging in PC. The bonus of a lvl 5 skill is often miniscule while the SP investment is equal to 1-4 combined. Only rarely will 3 extra points of shields be the decisive difference between losing and winning and this amount of SP can be used to skill one of the usual "if i just had this right now" things like some AV or uplinks straight to ADV level. Given the current murder taxi epidemic this would save your life much more often. |

You know, I actually disagree with this. The lack of a respec means that you need to make decisions and live with the outcomes. If you regret it.... life is hard, wear a helmet and HTFU.
That being said, if CCP make a change to the game that drastically alters the way a skill or set of skills operates, a respec is only fair. |

This.. I hope Serpentis Corp. gets in on dropship manufacturing. I want the dropship equivalent to a Dramiel.
As a matter of fact, ccp should just make a dropsuit with the Dramiel model as the head. I want horns dammit..
Seriously though, I'm waiting patiently for Serpentis and the Angel Cartel to come into dust so that we can get way cool consumable boosters that boost your speed or something but that you can get addicted to or something. And because Dust needs more smugglers and pirates.. |
