So not trying to start another Flylock crying thread, more of a what to do about FOTM op items that keep coming. I don't post a lot, but I play everyday, and I've been with and supported this game with both my time and money since closed beta.
It seems to be a common theme that every time an update is made, or new content is added, something swings way out of balance. The Flaylock is just the latest example of this. Combine this with the psychopathic attitude of much of the EvE community "adapt (and exploit) or die" or "HTFU (and exploit)" It's really making me question the developers ability to combat.
When I first heard of and imagined an agile, as apposed to waterfall developed game it sounded wonderful. New content all the time, quick fixes that could be implemented in days instead of months. But the cons of rush, untested content is appearing to be to overwhelming to the sprint/story agile process to keep up with.
The game seems to be caught in a continuous loop of: Release new content and update/rebalance old. A few days of crying about old weapons not working as well as before accompanied by demands of skill refund by those who skilled into the previous generation of OP FOTM. A few days to identify and skill into the next OP FOTM. A few weeks of crying about or advocating of the new OP. Nerf hammer the OP out of existence. Release new content and update/rebalance old.
All of this with very little time of balanced play.
The promised ability of being able to quickly adjust specs to items to address balance issues is not yielding the expected results.
So what is the solution? The easiest would be to just not play. But I don't want that. I want this game to succeed not because of the time and money I've invested in it. I spend money on way dumber stuff than this game. I want it to succeed because I believe in agile as a development process that should apply well to games, and I believe in FTP micro transaction business module that the future of gaming is going to. I have FUN playing this game, and I look forward to what this game can become.
Maybe release new content in events? Let us have a weekend where everyone is given 50 copies of a new item before it is released? |
