So not trying to start another Flylock crying thread, more of a what to do about FOTM op items that keep coming. I don't post a lot, but I play everyday, and I've been with and supported this game with both my time and money since closed beta.
It seems to be a common theme that every time an update is made, or new content is added, something swings way out of balance. The Flaylock is just the latest example of this. Combine this with the psychopathic attitude of much of the EvE community "adapt (and exploit) or die" or "HTFU (and exploit)" It's really making me question the developers ability to combat.
When I first heard of and imagined an agile, as apposed to waterfall developed game it sounded wonderful. New content all the time, quick fixes that could be implemented in days instead of months. But the cons of rush, untested content is appearing to be to overwhelming to the sprint/story agile process to keep up with.
The game seems to be caught in a continuous loop of: Release new content and update/rebalance old. A few days of crying about old weapons not working as well as before accompanied by demands of skill refund by those who skilled into the previous generation of OP FOTM. A few days to identify and skill into the next OP FOTM. A few weeks of crying about or advocating of the new OP. Nerf hammer the OP out of existence. Release new content and update/rebalance old.
All of this with very little time of balanced play.
The promised ability of being able to quickly adjust specs to items to address balance issues is not yielding the expected results.
So what is the solution? The easiest would be to just not play. But I don't want that. I want this game to succeed not because of the time and money I've invested in it. I spend money on way dumber stuff than this game. I want it to succeed because I believe in agile as a development process that should apply well to games, and I believe in FTP micro transaction business module that the future of gaming is going to. I have FUN playing this game, and I look forward to what this game can become.
Maybe release new content in events? Let us have a weekend where everyone is given 50 copies of a new item before it is released? |

In short, yes, it will always be like this. Simply because new stuff is being added to the game, forever. Balance can only be achieved for a game that is finished or done, with no new content on the way. The players themselves are adapting, changing, getting more SP, they will always find something. |

Apparently they were working on the core stuff, like framerate issues, connectivity and such. Now I think it has gotten more fluid aside from the strafe so I guess the next step is to throw all the content in and then start balancing once and for all so that every class and weapon is viable without being the same or playing to other's role.
The best would have been to have a test server where things can be tested for a week or two before throwing it into the game. Instant feedback without all the respec drama. If it was possible they could throw you on the server with x amount of SP and let people battle it out to test different tiers of weapons and armor. They could do daily updates and rebalancing without making eveyone angry because of all the time spent on progression. This could implicate the community more and improve communications and give a sense of involvement which I believe is really lacking. What I gather from the forums is that people feel isolated from the devs so when they actually pop, ppl destroy them with negative feedback which must not be enticing to implicate others. No idea if it is feasible however. |
