So, there is this band I know that plays local gigs. They are a small band that plays covers and some of their own songs. They aren't superstars, and won't go anywhere. They are decent to listen to, and make for a good time. They all know how to play their instruments decent enough for the type of gigs they get. They are a garage band.
CCP is the same. They are the "cover band" of developers. They can get by on the basics of building a game, but don't ask them to play Freebird (if you catch my drift). I often wonder when I play DUST, just what CCP was thinking. They have cool ideas here and there but trump them with game breaking screw-ups. What were they thinking when they thought of Flaylock pistols? What were they thinking when they thought of free 1HitKill LAVs? What were they thinking when they thought of no skill match making? What were they thinking when they thought of allowing KB&M play on a console? What were they thinking when they thought of of putting a band-aid on the broken spawn system instead of fixing it? What were they thinking when they thought of making maps so massive, yet on 2-3% of them are covered in a match? What were they thinking when their servers couldn't handle 50,000 people?(where they expecting the game never to be a success?) What were they thinking when they thought of having players shave 1,000s of hours of playtime off their character simply by using AUR(Okay, I honestly understand that one $$$) Honestly the list can go on, and on... But seriously, what were they thinking? Especially since the game was a true BETA.

I think you are looking for this.
If you know anything of CCP they will eventually fix all the problems with the game. The problem is just the time scale. They are treating the game like EvE in it's development. Though I do agree with you on one point. The game should still be in Beta due to the bugs. |

Yeah, well, it's probably good to remind them. Basically, they think things pop out of the sky completed and perfect without anybody having to do any work or anything.

Console games generally come in what could be considered a "completed" state. Maybe not perfect or anything but usually at least finished. |

Free/militia AR > FL
Free insta kill lavs (at a certain speed threshold) < Free AV fits that kill LAVs in two hits. Also, in open terrain dodging a LAV isn't too difficult, entertaining even, I have some stories. LAVs are actually easy WP/SP if you/your team know what you're doing. I also blame the sluggishness of players to adopt proximity explosives.
Skill match making was a player concept I believe, and it seems sensible enough to me; people should fight on equal-ish terms instead of having the uber AUR elite proto-winning every match and crushing newbies into the DUST.
KB&M?
That, 'spawning among the enemy team twice in a row at the start of the match and dying instantly each time' feel.... No arguments.
In more tactical gameplay maps this large could be very useful for falling back and coaxing the enemy out of a stronghold, or surprise stealth squad pincer attacks. It's also good for vehicles.
Quality, live, international servers, between two games/platforms is a tricky business, and I highly doubt they've recouped enough money from their AUR schemes to pay off their investments so far and sunk most of their investment capital into the game itself, this also translating into a budget that will more slowly improve gameplay over time as income streams allow.
You got it. ;I Plus people with money tend to be people with jobs, tend to be people with less time, and I don't think they're shaving off quite that many hours overall. So I don't really mind

I'm still new so I have to write one massive replay, bare with me:
Comparing CoD to DUST is worse than comparing apples to oranges. They are are both shooters, but that's where it stops.
KB&M = Keyboard and Mouse. Also, I don't play shooters with aim assist. I turned it on for the first time in DUST last week... NOTHING changed. I know when I'm getting KB&M'd because I get dropped with a submachine gun that apparently had every bullet with my name on it. Its like the muzzle was glued to me. KB&M is why Tac ARs were so OP.
The lack of satchel use for LAVs is true. I use packed AV nades, but the lag and inconstant hit detection makes it frustrating. I've chucked AVs at LAVs and they exploded, but no hitmarker or damage. And the fact that you can call in free LAVs can be crazy. Dealing with 7-10 LAVs is annoying, but it does improve the WP score, lol. I've destroyed 12LAVs. At least make the LAVs harder to earn.
I read another thread on this forum about people bragging about having 10M+ SP, and basically bragging about how much money they spent on boosters... I find that pathetic. I have 6M SP, never boosted, and have 9-10 days play time. If I had used boosters, I'd have 9M, which is basically a maxed out skill book of anything plus some. Of course I only use STD gear, because killing AUR players is my main reason for playing the game, lol.
I understand CCP is building as they go, and I really do think they are doing the best they can. But until they have something halfway decent, they should be accepting people's money. It just seems that this game was built to suck money out of people, and they aren't even being pretentious about it..
This game has so many game breaking mechanical faults that I can't take it seriously at all. For the amount of fixes it needs, the length of the BETA, and the fact that they have an endless supply of revenue with AURUM, I think CCP got in over there head. They have a lot of state of the art things in DUST, like the sound engine(best I have ever seen) but they aren't up to par with other AAA titles like CoD, Battlefield, and eventually Destiny.
Oh, and Nirvana was a **** bad that just became famous faster than their counterparts. Doesn't translate into skill. Dave Growl was the only good thing to come out of Nirvana, besides that... they were over rated as musicians. So using them as a reference was a pretty clever analogy I think, lol |

I love the big maps. I played drakes and killzone and all you really do is run around hallways on small maps. Skill lvl match making is weak and inspires weakness. I agree flaylock and lav are crazy though. |

Max people on dust 514 at one time is 9255. So not sure what you mean. Too busy fs^ on dust to even reply to the rest of what you posted. But http://eve-offline.net/?server=dust has been posted by CCP. Try checking it out. |

Amen bruda!
CCP ain't no Led Zeppelin. They're the local Zep cover band.
CCP's motto is fast becoming: "We can haz that too?"
My explanation? Iceland. Yeah, Iceland. That says it all. Let an American company buy them out and move the headquarters to the Atlanta office. Let the guys who come from a culture that knows wtf warfare and gun kata is. Let Iceland stick to making Rollercoaster Tycoon or something. |

The amount of ignorance in here is impressive. I guess people insist on being negative all the time. Don't you know with your constructive input this game can grow to get better? What do I know, its the internet. It's not like people give constructive criticism when they hide behind avis that allow them to speak negatively all the time. |

I'll admit, it is complaining. But complaining is good I think. When people just shut up and take whatever they are given, that's when companies take advantage. Look at so many franchise games that went to **** because the developer stopped listening to the big issues of the community playing it. DUST has a lot of potential, but I feel it will never be reached because CCP has underwent what so many companies (not just gaming companies) have: inbreeding.
They become so inwardly focused and their ideas become inbred. Nobody from a fresh outside perspective has a say and everything circles in on itself.
For example. When they had a developmental meeting and things like spawns or certain weapons were brought up; nobody had a clue how to objectively look at it. So many things of DUST have "slipped through the cracks". This is why CoD, Final Fantasy, Battlefield, etc have went to being garbage games. Eventually garbage games don't get money spent on them, best example: Guitar Hero.
I don't expect a more elaborate game, it is F2P after all. I think they need to focus on core issues first. Form should always follow function. |
