Shield tanking. No really, I'm serious, slap a complex shield extender on your Gallente suit. It's a huge quality of life improvement, I die far less often thanks to it. It will do you wonders, trust me.
I don't get one shotted from explosives anymore, which gives me that little chance to fight back.
Sadly, it's very SP intensive, as you need to max out both shields and armor :\ |

And vice versa put an armor plate on the caldari suit. It's great to be able to have that armor back you up in between shield recharging.
I don't jump much or worry about running a lot versus shooting from behind cover so it's great! |

We (Gallentes) get a far better base armor, so use that to your advantage and shield tank on top of that for maximum HP. Just don't forget your Complex Repper. |

You don't actually have to put all that much SP into it, relitively. You only need shield upgrades 1 an extenders 5. If you skill shield upgrades to 5 you don't get much out of it = assault/30 HP and logi/22 HP. There are much better things to invest in, unless you've already maxed your build. Also you really don't need to be concerned with the other shield skills. Unless, once again you just have a bunch of SP burning a hole in your screen.
I have actually skilled into regulators and regenerators in order to create a fast slayer type build with my Gal logi. I actually like this build quite a bit:
Comp energizer 2x comp shield extender
2x comp ken cat Comp cardiac regulator 2x comp shield regulator
Pro AR
Locust grenade
2x compact nano Repair tool Comp Nanite injector (Aur varient)
This build is very fun to play with and, by the numbers is only VERY slightly less effective than the Caldari assault using the same build philosophy, but of course the Cal assault does get the bonus of being able to carry all of that equipment though.

Really, CCP is trying to apply the mechanics from EVE and it just don't work the same as ships orbiting one another in space.
I'd rather have the dropsuits made out of varying materials that have natural resistances rather than do the whole shield vs. armor thing.
Make all suits some type of armored material only it varies for race.
Just have caldari suits hold up better against explosive versus EM instead of doing the whole shields then armor points.
You get hit by EM weapon in caldari you die. You get hit by explosive in galente you die.
You want to better resist that damage you get specific passive resist mods or an active general resist mod or something like that.
With your idea, what do you think, if for example, since Gallente and Minmattar are "Allies", what if Minmy's weaponry could affect the materials of Gallentean armours differently than Caldarians do, and have the actual effectiveness on Amarrians?
That'll would make some suits and weapons, a little op, but in exchange, have a drawback. For example: if you're in your Gallentean suit, and you are being shot by an Flaylock pistol, then You'll lose accuracy and you'll be pushed on the opposite direction from the explosive source.
The idea of this, will suck and be damn OP if someone listen to what i'm saying perfectly, but I think you can understand what I mean. |

Actually your idea could easily be implented by giving all suits the same module distribution and base stats, balancing them with base stats like lowering the HP of scouts and increasing their speed, and lowering the speed of heavies and increasing their HP, and then diverging the suits by adding weapons slightly better (10% max) against the suit variants. Thus creating a game where its not your suit that choose how you play, but how you build your suit and how you want to play your suit. |

Actually, you actually end up with far greater shild regen at the cost of 66 eHP. Forgot to mention that.

I do this, but I like to save pg by using some damage mods. It sucks thought because flux grenades kill armor again even for installations. There is nothing beneficial about using armor now over shields besides having more armor for logi's to ignore. |

I've never had my armor damaged by a flux. At least not that I know of, and I pay quite close attention. |

Well, Flux doesn't damage the armor... But once I got killed by MY OWN flux in my damaged LAV... |

Ammo types. There really should be ammo types like in EVE. You therefore wouldn't be equally immune to everything. Proto gear would not beat out militia gear every time. It would all depend on what ammo and what resists you are fitting for and hence you would... wait for it...
Gear for a particular role beyond just assault or logi. You could be the guy that gears for taking the grenade spamming alpha attacks then jumps around the corner and keeps shooting. Or, you could be the guy that plans on resisting the medium to long range laser riflemen.
Each person would mean more in a particular role. |
