So i decided to go into assault dropships on an alt to see if they really suck that bad and after hours of endless grinding i finally get the python with militia gear equiped, im so excited for my first flight as a real pilot and i join a skirmish, i get inside my vehicle feeling great and i start to lift off and then a ******* RDV comes out of nowhere and crashes into me destroying me, the RDV and the murder taxi it was transporting. I instantly turned off my ps3 and went to bed after that
Anyway can some assault dropship pilots give me some tips (other than look up when you fly) and should i be using a militia after burner even though it takes up all that precious PG/CPU? |

Never call in a vehicle at the spawnpoint.
Check for other vehicle users calling in their crap in your vicinity and evade the spot if necessary.
Get shield hardeners if you shield tank.

It seems you just got unlucky, I would suggest calling in your ship away from the spawn, EVERYONE calls in a vehicle there, and it can be easy to hit an RDV. The main thing to do right now is to upgrade your moduel. Would suggest upgrading shield boosters, shield amplifiers, and power grid diagnostics units. Fit those on my current python, and it takes on damage well |

Yeah, don't call in near the spawn. That's just asking for trouble. It's pretty easy to avoid ever getting hit by an RDV if you pay attention to your surroundings.
Also, it sounds like you skipped over regular dropships entirely. If so, you should probably practice with the 50k one for a while first. I recommend adding a miltia afterburner and filling the lows with militia overdrives... some people tank their dropships, but I think that's an exercise in futility. When you can consistently land on a rooftop with a droplink, you're ready to upgrade. If you arrive safely, recall it immediately to save yourself some isk. |
