Not really.
People play Eve because they are physically uncoordinated.
You see it in the eve people "playing" Dust514. |

Competition is good, Freelancer and Wingcommander were great. One reason why EVE has been so successful is that there has been no competition in the Sandbox Starship genre. (Starwars and Star Trek don't count).
I've had my eye on this game for awhile. |

It's the growing part that would the part to worry about though. But at least this game is quite some time away.
But watch the video. I can potentially naviagate a gate to a new system and it will be named after me.
I could create a ship and if it meets the games requirements and is approved, I can be paid for purchases of my ship (probably in game currency but still).
A dedicated team to adding new content every 1-2 weeks in a dynamically altering universe
A single player campaign mode (optional) to play as a winged space fighter
A dedicated developer for story lore including the admissions of player created story
Not saying this game will be the full sandbox experience that EVE is but at the same time i fully expect given the developer that this game will be spectacular both in sandbox elements and the fact i wont have my weapons hitting other targets through a planet.

Not to mention Eve's strong economy, flexible payment options thanks to PLEX, player elected council of stellar management, and a history of events that are completely player driven. |

It probably is, but hey if Hip-Hop and Rap can sample tracks to create "new" music and call it original as far as im concerned I hope they carbon copy all of the best parts of EVE and throw in the gameplay and physics that this game has to offer and it really is GG.
I mean for freaking crying out loud all you Artists out there how are you not foaming at the mouth to possibly make you own ship that could be purchased and used by other players!!!!
How bout you lore fanatics and being able to have your lore written in and potentially influence the backstory.
Yes EVE is playerdriven and i given the "approval" processes this game doesn't look to be but you know what if they are willing to let us do things like getting our own designs into the game and stuff I can see it opening up more and more over time.
Im just saying im gonna be create my own expedition team and we will be the frontiersman getting stuff named after us and it will be GLORIOUS. |

If anything it looks similar to EVR, but EVR also looks similar to basically any space fighting "simulator"
Also, being able to walk around on ships and build your own ships / get them introduced into the actual universe as persistent ships (if they're well received)
EVE is too much spreadsheet for me, to be entirely honest. An actual immersive experience like the one being teased at here would sell me pretty quickly. |

Yea this by the way is the biggest thing going for this game. He outright said without crowd funding this game would never be possible. It great to see this game and the original Socom team going this route bypassing crappy publisher desires to deliver us a game we actually want.

Indeed... the only way that Eve would look like Star Citizen is if CCP suddenly released the Oculus Rift gameplay as an official addon. Otherwise, the only connection is 'ships in space' and that's been done to death by people for over 15 years, well before CCP even existed. And honestly... I miss space fighter sims more than anything (X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter vet here). |

Those price tags are for crowd-funding the project and development of the game, I dont think those are actual prices come release, though i might suspect they keep some of them around after release given the content.

Holy crap, this is the game I want to play!
The immersion of the Oculus Rift in a space sim built by the creator of Wing Commander? I'll build a PC for that.
I love crowd sourcing. I was a Kickstarter backer of "Clang" for its goal to bring true sword fighting to the PC, and now I'll have to jump on "Star Citizen".
Of course that means waiting several months for the Alpha and enduring another Beta... But it looks like it will be more fun than grind.
EVE isn't losing me as a customer because of this as I'm not into spreadsheets and turn based combat, and I'll stick around in DUST for my FPS fix. It might get the majority of my game time when it comes out, but that's off in the future. |

This is Chris Roberts, so im very confident. He has put together the team for this game. I mean this guy is a staple of this particular genre.
Honestly the only thing i could think of stopping them is funding. But then i read how they did a livestream an raised 5M dollars for it and wanted to push a reveal of a new ship if it got to 5.5. Needless to say they got the extra 500K. Thats how much people like his games. |

Yea but tbf i don't think its just hype. That video is actual game footage backdropped. If you go through the website and start reading the lore and all the developer videos and meet the team you get a sense of the games potential and then you see some of it in action and its just like what no way.
IF it was any other dev i would be skeptical as all get out. But Chris Roberts has yet to fail me. And like i said here's hoping this dev team and the original socom dev team that is working on their crowd funded project right now start exchanging notes cause you know what that would me if they got married!!!! |

Here's a good summery I think will be useful for the discussion: (Source)
Quote:Here's my take on it, based on my impressions so far.
Star Citizen: - Hands on combat sim - Strong, directied single player experience - Persistent multiplayer universe to explore, fight and trade in - Incredible graphics if you have a powerful rig
Elite: Dangerous: - Mind-boggingly enormous persistent multplayer universe to explore, fight and trade in - Hands on combat sim - Very open-ended with little direction
EvE: Online - Detached point and click combat - Persistent multiplayer universe to explore, fight and trade in - Very open-ended with little direction - The ultimate sandbox toolkit
Also, EvE is a full-fledged MMO with all that entails. The other two may turn out to be more like "hybrid" MMOs, but we'll see. |

Pretty much a throw away statement.
May as well call the up coming Destiny a "hybrid" MMO.....hell even WoW can be played as a single player game....and the first 80 levels (85 now?) you play it as one. |

Some info pulled from the site
COMING TO A PC NEAR YOU... Raw power, unchallenged customization and an open system: why would we choose anything other than the PC? Star Citizen aims to return PC gaming to its former glory by taking advantage of the platform's incredible strengths. Star Citizen will feature constant content updates, fully equipped modding tools and the ability for players to host their own custom servers. The full range of PC peripherals will be embraced, from HOTAS flight sticks to the Oculus Rift; you have control over how you play the game!
ECONOMY AND PLAYER IMPACT... No more churning out gold: the Star Citizen universe will have a fully simulated game economy driven by supply and demand. The commodities and credits in the game will change the way the universe evolves in dramatic ways, shaped by the player's actions. Failing to mine raw materials means a planet will stop producing missiles and players will compete to arm their ships; mining a surplus will decrease costs. Everything from space pirate attacks to planetary disasters to coordinated efforts from player groups will have a noticeable impact on how goods work in Star Citizen. Everything in turn generates jobs for players and NPCs alike, from planets hiring mercenaries to restore their supply lines to additional haulers to move surplus goods where they're needed. |

Wacha talking about CCP can deliver a good game, look at EVE it only took them 10 years and the physics in that game is amazing, it not like can shoot through objects anymore .
Of course EVR will be a great feature and will be amazing. |

It occurred to me that DUST would integrate far better with Star Citizen than EVE given that they are both real time and the ships have accurate interiors. You could fly down to a planet and release the DUST shuttles to drop the mercs.
Of course I'm not sure why I would want to pound the ground if I had a spaceship. Being a real pilot and an ex-dropship pilot in game I'm far more interested in the ships than infantry.
Just think about it, full VR support for the whole game. Talk about immersion... |

That games graphics looks awesome, but I can't imagine 1500 people going at it against each other with those kind of detailed models :(, also the simulated economy and the fact everything is instanced and can be even made private makes for a not really all that massive game.
I'll still get asap, since it's still an awesome game ^_^, just not on a scale as grand as EVE battles and economy are. |
