Perhaps at most once every five or ten minutes, a 25 point bonus if you've been hit by a sniper rifle, but manage to get to cover and survive for X amount of time. Even better is if a sniper round even passes near you, the timer starts.
The whole sniper/prey thing is really a non intereactive game. In comparison with two guys shooting assault rifles at each other, they both do something and there is a result possible for either party. With the sniper, only he is going to get a result at best - you can't get anything.
I'm predicting folks who, although they accept getting two rewards for repairing or nano injecting (1st reward: team mates live for longer or continue fighting, 2nd reward: war points) or getting two rewards for taking objectives (1st reward: closer to winning the match, 2nd reward: war points), and so on, they are still going to say that 'surviving the sniper is it's own reward'. Well, I'll flip a coin and tails, you give me $50, heads you give me nothing - well, heads 'is it's own reward', so surely that deal is rewarding? Well no, really it's not worth facing the risk, is it? |

If I'm getting sniped out in the open, first thing I do is call an LAV and go loosen up my melee button. MCC/redline snipers on the other hand are completely stupid. No one should be safe behind some imaginary line on a battlefield. If they're shooting at me, I should have the opportunity to shoot back at them even if I have to run/drive a mile. And don't tell me to grab a sniper and shoot back, because I have no idea how anyone stands that mundane bullshit. It's the pussiest form of gameplay there is: standing on some mountain and taking pot shots at people because you can't manage in an actual gunfight. |

The problem with your logic here is fairly simple: The people who are Repping, using Injectors, and Capping Points are actively doing something. Even the example with two Mercs going one on one, both players actively doing something. With a Sniper vs Target, only one player actively doing something, while the other isn't. The person being shot at continues to do what they were, or should have been doing before, which is running. Either running for cover, or running to the next Objective, etc. The bonus that you propose could be applied to anyone going up against an HAV, or LAV, without any kind AV on their fit. They cannot actively do anything against either one, so they should get bonus WP's for running away. |

That doesn't make sense. However, AVers should still somehow get WP for just downing a vehicle's shields. Whenever a vehicle retreats to the redline, they're denying AVers our main source of WP. |

Of course it doesn't make sense when you ignore the core problem - that the sniper and target have an interaction which is one way only.
Hey, if you would get excited about a gun combat where the other guy can shoot you for 50 points, but even if you killed him you got nothing, good for you! That's how much sense you are making. It's okay if you like that, but try not to say anyone doesn't make sense just because they don't share your tastes. They can get points from you, but you can't get points from them?? Yours is an aquired taste, fellow interneter!
Actually I'd almost agree on the LAV and HAV thing getting points too - well, if it weren't possible to switch to an AV fit and have a weapon that locks onto the vehicle (as well as the vehicle often being quite easy to spot and there being cover which blocks it's approach). Is there going to be a anti sniper swarm launcher next patch that just locks onto them?
Let's apply your 'not actively doing something' argument to the gun fight as well
"Oh, see A was doing something while B wasn't!" "Weren't they both shooting at each other with guns?" "No, B wasn't really doing anything...so it's fine!"
If the sniper was shooting (with his rifle) at someone who was 20m away and the other guy is shooting back, is the other guy also 'not doing something'? The whole 'not doing something' line seems to not make sense, when a little pressure is applied.
But hey, maybe 'he can get points from you but you can't from him' is the exciting new future of gaming.

This is what I'm referring to. In in the Merc vs Vehicle interaction, if you're not using an AV fit already chances are pretty good that you're going to get killed. If you do then you can switch to an AV fit (even a Starter Fit) and try and get to revenge. If you don't get killed then you can try to reach a Supply Depot and do the same thing. With Merc vs Sniper, you actually have a better chance of survival depending on your suit type and fit. Most Mercs can take 1-2 shots before they go down, and some can take more. If you survive, switch to a Sniper fit (even a Starter Fit) go hunting for revenge. If you don't get killed, chances are pretty good you can continue on your way. Or, if you're really feeling some hate toward the Sniper, find a Supply Depot, switch to a Sniper Fit, and go hunting.
Giving WP's away just for not dyeing, regardless of the circumstances just doesn't make sense. In the same vein as your idea, why not give WP's for surviving a grenade, or a Missile, Blaster, or Rail Turret? Those things have some pretty mean range on them as well, and can kill you just as quickly as the Sniper, if not faster. My point is, you don't give out WP's to people who aren't doing anything. You get points for Kills, and Assists. In both cases you actively did something beneficial to the team, and were rewarded for it. You get WP's for Hacking, Repping, and dropping Uplinks, and Nanohives, because you actively did something. You don't get WP's simply for not dyeing. |

I commend you for a creative idea here. I have to say though that I'm against this. It's true that while dodging sniper fire you have almost no chance at getting any WP for the effort (the exception being that you actively hunt the sniper down and kill him or her) I'm against this for a few reasons.
1.) As said above, living and getting to cover it's it's own reward.
2.) I'm not sure that trying to implement something like this (particularly the suggestion where you get WP for sniper rounds going off near you, and not hitting you) is something I'd want CCP to focus on coding
3.) In your example of the two assaults shooting eachother the one who 'dodges' or 'obtains cover' gets no WP. WP is only awarded for a kill or kill-assist, so why should sniper v.s. target be any different?
When I survive a sniper I think "whew, that was close!"
When I don't survive a sniper, the sniper thinks "damn, I should have moved after that last shot...."(gun)
Whether I live or die after sniper fire, revenge is it's own reward.

What are your rewards for merely surviving everything else? For not killing anyone, but for merely running away and living? What are those rewards? |

What is the definition of war mean to you in this game? This isn't war the CARD GAME you babies. This is a battlefield fps like in real war if your enemy can snipe the **** out of you he's gonna do it if he can run your ass over in a jeep or tank he's gonna do it. As for snipers if they can shoot you then that means they can be shot i dont care where their at. It sucks for all of us but war is hell bitches. What alot of you need to do is is go get your blanky then go in a corner suck your whittle thumbs and play some pac-man or some ****. FREAKING SISSIES!!!!!!!!!! |

However, the OP thinks that people get "WP for surviving everything else." That's who my post was directed at, as the quote indicated. You could tell from my previous post in the thread that I am not backing the OP's position. |
