I need to put 10 minutes of my time to express my love for the Scout Fraternity.
I recently created this character with the only purpose of being a a full-time sniper scout girl.
After some time out of the Academy (which was... lol), I started to feel the need of a more solid protection. And that was becoming a real nightmare, being a one-shot target for anyone. "No, I want to be a Scout, damn! I won't give up!" But there was another voice inside me: "Hahahah, you just have 2 hi-powered slots, and as soon as you get Proto, you will have just one! Loser! How do you expect to kill people like that? Your charged sniper is like a water gun!" "Hahahah, you can be one-shotted by the first noob with a Militia sniper rifle that accidentaly gets your butt in his scope!" "Hahahah, you can't even equip complex light damage modifiers without putting CPU upgrades in your crappy dropsuit!"
But I've found the reason for me. My reason to be a Scout.
I'm still a one-shot target. But I no longer care.
My reason is... my friends. My squad.
I run fast. Very fast. I can move fast enough to support my team anytime, no matter what, and I guide them. I see everything they need to know. My squad channel is like: twoenemiescomingfromcharlietobravooneofthemisprotoanLAVisenteringthecitadelfromthesouthwestgateheadingtobravoimdeadtheresanothersniperonthehillsinfrontofdelta (5 seconds brake to respawn)"
Without the massive damage bonus of 3-4 modules I couldn't one-shot people as I wanted. Even enemy snipers were surviving to the first shot too many times. So I switched to the TAC sniper. It really helps my squad A LOT and I actually have more chances to land a second shot and almost insta-kill enemies. At the end of the game I usually got a couple kills and 20 or more assists. But you know what?
My team loves me. My friends love me. I'm always the squad leader and I know where to unleash chaos with an orbital strike. This is my role and I ****ing love it. They can't even play without me. Now DUST is boring when I can't do this. Sniping solo is AWFUL and I do it sometimes to get SP. But it's not even remotely entertaining.
I really think Scout is not a viable choice as a solo sniper, when Assault can survive a charged rifle shot and has 3-4 slots for damage mods. So this IS a problem. Sniper should be a stealth role. Assault HP-tank snipers GTFO!
Scouts are great as team snipers and guides. And they have their place IN the battlefield as shotgunners/assassins/spotters, etc... but they need some more love. Definitely. One more module slot and a bit better CPU would not hurt.
Thank you for reading my story. |
