i dont use range amps any more since ewar changes and nerf to that module. ewar is pretty crap now...gone back to good ole fashioned manual stealth hehe. you know about the circles? http://dust514.com/news/2014/12/uprising-1.10-overview-patch-notes/

I like the idea of the biotic scout XD Make it play the theme from The Six Million Dollar Man show and you are set.
I have considered this and think it could be hilarious. You can already jump in and out of some areas with 2x kincats on a MinScout. Don't know if it's the same for other light suits. Can you imagine the tears if scouts were able to use a module that boosts jumping and made them totally OP in terms of where they can go? All CCP need to do is implement this then say they can't undo it (I'm looking at you 1.8) and we're set.

gotta say though cal scout still seems viable. took my alt out for a spin in a C/1 tonight and altho i had my arse handed to me 5+ times by a duvolle rifle wielding gk.0, it was pretty effective at p.scans. put 2x PEs on it and a single RA. 27 profile, 24 precision. RA took scan radius to 52m give or take, up from 45 or so. i thought that 7m might be worth the slot. This alt of mine also has combat rifle maxed out - **** i like that thing.
might have to try him out for a few more fights tomorrow...

Not really that I know of. Because therein lies one of the skills of knifing. To land both swipes on a moving target requires you to move with them.
Spademan wrote: Personally I'm a advocate of reducing backpedal. I think if you want to retreat you should have to do a 180 and hightail it outta there, not run backwards while shooting.
This Aeon is one reason why I *personally* think backpedal speeds are silly. Being able to avoid the swipes of a merc that did the hard work in sneaking up on you in the first place whilst *shooting at them* is in some's opinion an unbalanced mechanic.
Aeon Amadi wrote:mollerz wrote:Aeon Amadi wrote:Calling it quits for now. That last match kinda sucked.
Anyway, currently my stand-point still... Stands. It's only really an issue for some of the faster suits, at least for me. Minmatar Assault, for instance. Everything else I can totally handle. Be a real merc. Use only knives. You totally can't handle everything else that back pedaled. If it back pedaled and you were using only knives you were totally screwed every time. Be honest. Back pedaling is totally self serving for you and that is why you want it to remain as it is. This farce of a bullshit experiment with you half ass running around with knives is so transparent it is totally ******* silly. Totally. Yup, absolutely, and that is why I'm discontinuing it entirely. If you guys don't want to play ball and actually give people a chance to change their kittening minds, then I'm not going to fight you. I'll just consider this all the frakking evidence I need to extrapolate that wanting movement speed reductions is just as self-serving for you kittens as well and adamantly defend -against- it because of that. I don't play troll games and if I'm just wasting my freaggin time trying to be open minded about this then there's really no point in continuing to invest -MY- time and effort. Peace, ****.
Wow dood did Mollerz just give you an out? You are discontinuing your experiment because of a single voice? Don't be silly.
Now to say what I've been wanting to say during all the last few pages and multi-paragraph posts, most of which I didn't read and here are some reasons why.
You began by coming in here throwing your weight around, which is fine, it's a free country and all that, but you aren't likely to help your cause if a valid debate is what you're after. Your attitude is irksome, your posts...I dunno dude I can ramble too but the reason I stopped reading all your words is coz you are coming at this like you're in some sort of debating society.....tooo many words dude.
Learn to get to the point, you don't need to address every single little thing that someone tried to call you out on. Stick to the burning issues.
As for your maths and other scenarios etc etc etc - you spectacularly fail to cover all the ground when making comparisons. This smacks of your lack of experience in particular playstyles. Either that or *you* are the troll, but I choose to believe the former.
Most of your comparisons of various suits and fits, that justify why this shouldn't happen, appear to miss some glaring points, namely, a scout will go down in less than half the time an assault will. You think a scout has time to whip out his longer ranged weapon when a nova-knife attack fails? Not usually. Failed attack usually equals dead scout.
>> I don't play troll games and if I'm just wasting my freaggin time trying to be open minded about this then there's really no point in continuing to invest -MY- time and effort.
Please don't, go forth and extrapolate, convince the ppl important to maintaining your plight instead of wasting your time here. Don't feed the trolls dood.
The petulant kidult in me wants to tell you to **** right off.

One Eyed King wrote:One of my favorite duels was one of ludicrous proportions.
Saw a knifer in a city, on the street and went after him.
He switches and pulls out another weapon (can't remember what). So I think, "Oh Crap" and pull out my SMG which had an empty clip.
I think his had an empty clip as well, because right after he pulled out his weapon, he went back to his knives.
Then I thought, "Alright, its on!" Pulled my knives back out as well, dancing around each other only...
He had pulled out his unloaded gun.
In the heat of battle, I think again, "Oh Crap" and again pull out my SMG, which was still empty because I never let it reload before switching the first time. Idiot.
AGAIN he pulls out his knives, because this was CQC, and he couldn't be bothered to reload his weapon either.
AGAIN I think, "Sweet! Knife Duel finally!"
Again, he pulls out his empty weapon.
Again I freak out, and pull out my SMG.
THIS THING IS STILL NOT LOADED YOU MORON!!!!!
Finally...
I think I broke him.
His back is to a pillar, his knives are out, but he is not dancing anymore.
I have mine back out, and given the intense situation, I look at him briefly, though it feels like forever.
Still no movement.
So I step forward and end his misery.
Then run away wondering what the french just happened.
Its fights like these that made me wish I had a capture card. They are too funny for words.
if he is anything like me his fat fingers mashed down either select or d-pad and he found himself cursing how long it takes to load any of those screens up and then exit them. i do that a lot...most recently i've added accidental R2 into the mix...nothing like chucking an uncooked core locus nade in front of you in the middle of a firefight. bloody waste lol.
which makes me ask you guys...where to buy a ps3 controller from and a decent brand? Apparently there were a **** load of fake official ones flooded onto the market and i cant find anything else that remotely sounds any good.

Why not try out the militia variants. Or even just drop a single level into each and try out the standards. Honestly I don't think it's worth it to put too many points into the plasma cannon if you're expecting performance out of leveling Operation. Unless something changed when it was buffed, plasma cannons barely scale up in quality from STD to PRO. Level 1 in operation is pretty much enough to get a feel for them.
I think they go up about 200 damage at each tier. Something like 1100 / 1300 / 1500. Plus unlocking the reload speed and ammo skills are really useful. [edit] of course, only if you plan to use it often

We're probably a bit over sensitive because of the random ragers that come in from time to blame us for everything post 1.8. Cat Merc got threatened with a ban by Rattati multiple times for being one of the people spreading it (if I recall correctly). Considering this is the climate we often receive visitors in we can be a bit on the defensive side. If you have a PS4 or are thinking about getting one at some point in the future, I found the DS4 to be amazing for Dust. I got an extra one to use for Dust a few weeks before I even got a PS4. The catch is that it is not the most economical solution. So I've heard, I'm pretty sure the consensus is "DS4 is awesome, period" :P I want to get one because I'm in need of a gamepad for my PC, but that price hurts my soul Can confirm it works well on PC. But most games will have the screen icons for an Xbox controller, if you can get your head around the different button symbols it works pretty well. Though I have a PS4 (got it launch week), so you could always go that route.
Awesome thanks guys. Just ordered one - Amazon Prime says here tomorrow before 1pm :D I'm gonna murder everyone tomorrow. I'm gonna kill all 80 clones myself.
-ú43 - steep but I also have a PC and will use it with that too. PS3 controller had good results on PC with some bits of mapping software.
Considering I had dropped an obscene amount on an MLG controller in my desperation to get something that would be good quality and not be a fake...let's just say it cost double what I just paid for the PS4 controller.
Oh and guess what - that stupid MLG controller...it's the 2nd one, the first having developed a fault with one of the analog sticks. This 2nd one....the 'x' button is stuck down. Incredible build quality for something so expensive. And bloody Scan.co.uk say I have to take a replacement instead of a refund. My my 1st world problems suck.

At some point being involved with Dust feels like the Concorde Fallacy. When do you stop putting time in to grind out skills and things you want for a game you're going to leave anyway?
And when playing it's so jarring just visually, occasionally certain angles will cause the aliasing to get all messed up. It wasn't a great looking game by PS3 standards any way.
As for match making. We're still lazor focussed on PS3 apparently and it has all but been confirmed that PvE cannot happen on PS3 so unfortunately your options for avoiding stomp squads consist of not playing the game (especially when said stomp squads head out onto different servers to not have to fight each other, *cough*cough*Nyan San)
The crazy silence on Legion is concerning though. And the fact that many EvE players thought Dust actually got shut down back at FF. Which is a reasonable conclusion given what was put out for press releases.
I'm actually kind of saddened that people can file a support ticket though. Misses the point.
Corp chat :-
I'm intending to be more active in there, and I've noticed there's quite a few in there around GMT evening time (well there was last night anyway). Though nothing happened when I LFS'ed LOL. Thanks Summer Sault for picking me up earlier though - ran in a squad with him, noob, Haerr, couple others for a bit.
Concorde Fallacy:-
I think Shotty and a few others summed it up quite a while ago: I play coz I enjoy it, and accept that they could switch it off any moment, or the resurgence could continue. So my expectations are set so I am not too disappointed. I've actually had the most fun with DUST in the last six to nine months than I have before. Even bought AUR :-o Something I said I would never do day one.
Game physics:-
Yeah I seem to be noticing more glitches - like those bloody windy stairs (two sets of stairs separated from each other leading up to Charlie I think) - I get caught on something whilst charging up them. Unless there's some dirty cloaker lurking there lol.
Match-making:-
I quit playing for six weeks or so due to constant stomping. It seems better since I came back a few days ago but that could be related to a) running with a squad more, and b) using my alts with lower different mu values. We'll see.
Legion:-
Yeah total silence is very surprising. Either beta is gonna be dropped on us with zero notice, or....World of Darkness happened to it. I believe they are using EVE proceeds to bank-roll other games in attempts to find another successful one....they are looking for that unique formula like they have with EVE. DUST *was* shutdown from a new development pov. Just one or two resources were left on it - to tread water if you like. But that would appear to be reversing for now.

Mix it up with the extra slots a little more at proto.
27 precision, 24 profile. Makes an interesting fight. Go beast Jolly, put the vids up, then we can all laugh at the FotM OP scout complainers that they could've been scouts ("scout-hevvy", as opposed to "assault-lite") after all.
In fact I'd be interested to know what anyone who happens to have ADV+ galassault would make running this in a few fights. Think scout with decent ewar, 9+ m/s, and a 600 eHP tank.

I did not biomass. started the termination timer and decided to delete the game before biomass. As others have said I could change my mind and it reminded me that I do make bad decisions when not thinking straight. Thinking now of maybe just playing less and only if in a squad. Maybe that will help but I doubt it. Going to even try to use my stereo bluetooth headset for mic. I really want this game to be fun but the last week has just been proto stomp after proto stomp and it is just getting really old. Guess I just need to sit back smoke a blunt and sing hakuna matata, lol
Did you cancel the biomass? Not sure deleting the game will cause it to cancel...can't remember how that works exactly.
You could just take a break from it for now. Recharge your batteries, and get your will to play back. As for proto-stomps...just go out there, do your thing, enjoy yourself. Let them stomp.
What I do anyway - YMMV :)

Don't worry, I melee'd a fatty yesterday. Terrible death happens to everyone ;-)

Did Spade really get knifed by a fatty?

Just wanted to say. I ******* love knives. ******* love them. So much fun. So much pain. It's the only weapon where I have specific events running through my head 15 minutes after the battle is done.
Just now I should've had the minmando...should've had him dammit. I screwed up...he was launching schwarmas....I flanked him, he moved backwards, I missed a swipe, he pulled out his other weapon and ended me. If I'd attacked from the rear, been more patient, it might've gone differently. If I'd kept closer to him...anticipated a surprise and been ready for it....it might've gone differently.
I don't know if it's luck, my following Arkena's gal guide and getting some better situational awareness, or what, but I'm doing pretty good with em the last few days. I took three mercs out inside 3 - 4 seconds just now. Yeah two were hacking but still. No other weapon will let you kill that fast.
Several weeks back I did a double-kill on two mercs - got congratulatory mail for that one from both victims.
Also agree with Mollerz...really gotta use protos - need that alpha. That said, if you're learning how to use em, then perhaps you would use something cheaper to get a feel for how they work, how the fights work, all the different dynamics before expecting to kill with them. I guess that might make sense. But you should not be expecting to stay alive with anything less than ishnoks imho. Personally I won't run em on anything but a minja, but others have had success in different suits.
Oh **** yeah and I also shot a LAV driver out of his wankmobile with a PLC today too. I love it when that happens. I've now killed drivers in LAVs with forge gun, shotgun, nova knife, and now the PLC. Someone here did it with flaylock recently (caught on tape too) - I guess that's next HAHA.
Anyway I had a blast as you can tell. PLC and NKs are now my favourite weapons. Moreso than my beloved Scrambler Pistol, may her nerfed RoF forgive me.
PS. re: knife alpha: obviously that fatty that killed Spade with MLT knives is an outlier.

Dreis Shadowweaver wrote:Eruditus 920 wrote:I have been wanting to learn how to use Nova Knives properly for a while, so last week I took them to proto.
I have been running them on my Gal scout. I know this is unorthodox but I believe it can still work.
I am familiar with using a SG and I am a good shot with it so I am used to getting in close etc but knives are a different animal.
There have been several times when I was sure I had a kill but somehow missed. Am I getting too close? Is that even possible?
Results have not been great. I have trouble with moving targets and catching mercs from behind. I am running 2 Kin cats but you can't sprint while charging. I know about the sprint/jump/charge technique but *sigh*
I haven't been clacked up either. Is this bad too? Am I doing it all wrong?
Can anyone point me to resources to help me get better? youtube, a thread, etc or offer any wisdom.? Knife 101
Nice one Dreis. cant remember if I've seen this before. some comments:
1. needs confirmation but this was around the time of the shinobi event, and so suits had less ehp back then. not sure which suits will go down from an uncharged swipe now. assaults have a lot more ehp these days. mlt amarr heavy frame can run 1181ehp. thats one plate and one extender.
2. 2m28: great example of moving with your target to connect. first slash had missed too i think.
Decided to do some comparisons of ehp. proto only, most races missing, but gives a feel for numbers. With the exception of the heavy frames, the fits I created could all run a GEK-38 and T-12 ion pistol. The heavy can wield an MH-82. Minmando an EXO-5 plus GN-13 flaylock. Basically they can all fight with ADV weapons.
No plates on the scout. 3 on the assault (thats very slow, not sure how many do this). 3 on the sentinel...not sure if ppl do this, its slow as molasses with a measly 4 hp/s rep rate. With a logibro, perhaps yes.
scout (min): 212 - 678 assault (gal): 538 - 1194 logi (amarr): 374 - 798 sentinel (gal): 1143 - 1717 commando (min): 774 - 1144
Knife alphas (Minja / Other):
charged x2: 1150 / 920 charged x1: 575 / 460 normal x2: 575 / 460 normal x1: 287.5 / 230
Even on a Minja, the chances of an OHK on an assault aren't guaranteed. As good as zero on proto sentinel.
