In preparation for the update coming this week I am trying to get some more beginner type info on starting a scout build. Have there been any updated guides created lately or some basics on fits or skills? I am looking forward to some new options with the reset possibility but I am still learning the ropes.
Thanks all! |

Due to some time off for school and passive SP I should be working with around 4M. It's hard to pick something specific as things may change after the update, but I love the idea of invisibility, capping, and cqc. I've been reading the older guides about knives and shotties for assassin type builds too. |

Thanks all! The meta for scouts has changed a lot over the previous few months so any old guides, specifically those regarding TacNet are largely out of date. As Cass above has stated, Gallente isn't a bad build to go for. The Gallente has a mild precision bonus which is good for spotting tanked out scouts (light assaults). Though somewhat differ on the being CQC thing, I've run Rail Rifle and Nova Knives (opposite ends of the spectrum) on my gal scout and found it pretty effective. The three EWAR skills should be a high priority. IMO in decending order. Dampening. Range. Precision. Gallente, due to their slot layout, end up as kind of Dual tankers (both armour and shields). As so many scout type mods are low slots (Codebreakers, Kin Cats, Dampeners). Consider speccing both Armour and Shield Mods. Scouts can be very hard to fit for PG/CPU especially if you're using a cloak. Don't even try to fit the cloak (IMO) until you have your chosen scout suit skill at 5. And make sure to spec into Core, Electronics and Engineering ASAP. I run a cloak and an uplink, so the fittings cost for those two items is pretty extreme. Are you a new player to the game or just new to scouting?
I am fairly new to the game so I do have to "translate" some of the quick tips to newberry before digesting. I started a logistics suit but don't really have a feel or like for it as I want a little more action than the ass end of a heavy. |

I think the hardest part is that I am so new and the majority of the information is from years ago. I've been looking for basic skill builds to start with (eg the core, elec, eng recommendations) as well as scout specific stuff. I was able to find the Logi code post which had a skill progression for the first like 5 mil points or so. Is there anything like that for scouts in a handy dandy faq type read? |

I'm thinking all of this will be easier with a reset as I have different points already allocated for logistics things. As a newberry I have trouble wrapping my head around the skills especially in trying to allocate into a new role while I have points spent for other things. For many who have been playing awhile I think the quick, summary type posts make sense, but my puny mind has to try harder to convert "skill damps, then precision, etc" into dropsuit upgrades 2 then electronics 1 then dampening, etc.
Does that make any sense? Lol |

I really think with what I've read from you guys so far I am looking toward a CQC Shotgun build or a Hunter build. I have messed around with the CR and I am better on burst right now as my aim sucks. I enjoy running fast and capping things and surprising people and I kind of like the idea of scanning and providing support to the rest of the team. Right now I feel like I am near useless with the premade militia builds. |

So just for my knowledge: When you guys talk about basic skill levels that "benefit" whatever suit you are wearing... could you give some more specific numbers? Like: Dropsuit Upgrades 2, etc
Right now I have followed (from the Logi Code): Dropsuit Command I Race X Medium Suit III Race X Logistics I Dropsuit Upgrades II Armor Upgrades I Shield Upgrades I Dropsuit Core Upgrades II Uplink Deployment I Nanocircuitry I Repair Tool Ops I
and all but engineering on the next step: Armor Plates vs Shield Extenders: I of one, III of the other. Whatever fits your Race (which I think I have Ext III) Armor Repair Systems I Shield Regulator I Engineering I Electronics I Repair Tool III
How messed up is this to be able to move toward a scout role? I have around 3.5 mil points to play with right now and then will have the potential reset to begin the way I want from the beginning. I am still needing to raise the ISK to buy the books and unlock everything (which may take some time).
Thank you all for the help. |

Ok cool. So should I focus on shifting into engineering and go for the damps and begin to follow Cass's suggestions? I am glad to hear that I don't need to respec. |

Ok, so I am going to open up engineering and start with the dampening levels. Should I do the other steps first before trying to repec into the gal light and scout suits? |

So would it be worth it (since I have so many unspent SP) to go straight for Damp 5? Or should I go to 3 and spread some love? |

A few pages back I made a post about what skills I'd need to play a dampened scout with minimal investment.
IMO if you reallocate your SP, I'd suggest going Gallente for stealth, because it's the least SP intensive scout.
Dropsuit Upgrades 2 Dropsuit Core Upgrades 3 Electronics 2 Profile Dampening 5
Gallente Light Frame 3 Gallente Scout 3

So with some time and isk I have all of those except gal scout 3 and that's only for isk cost for book. So need that with 1.77M SP left. Enough for gal scout 3 and weapons? |

So gal scout to 5 asap or eng/elec to 3 then scout 5?
Sorry so many questions. |

Gal has great fittings, and you should be fine with lvl 3. Ill give you the optimal PC Gal Scout fit RN for ultimate heavy spam countering capabilities, and modify it so that you can fit it with level 3 fittings. http://www.protofits.com/fittings/shared/0/8976Your goal should be to get that fit working. You may need to get to level 4 electronics, but that right there is a super solid PC fit. You can downgrade to f/45's if need be. But that right there is your goal. If you need ISK, HMU in game if I'm on.
Looks amazing. Do you have any basic fits I can run now to practice with while saving up for scout 5 and all the other upgrades?
You guys have been awesome. Thanks for all the support. I hope to represent scouts well in this.

Bayeth Mal wrote:Militia shotgun is good. Also consider speccing your side arm of choice first and duel wield them. Dual SMG and dual Scrambler Pistols I did a lot very early on.
Live without the cloak for the time being. Many here will disagree but speccing up your HP I recommend. Gal is a kind of dual tank play style though. Shields in the highs until you spec precision and put in precision enhancers.
Also do gallente faction warfare, this allows you to buy suits and mods 1 rank above what you're specced to.
Do you know what weapons you're going to go with?
I think I am gonna try out the militia SG just to get some play with it in CQC and I like the CR for the range and ability to be a little safely out of range, but that is with my current Glass-esque Caldari suit or the pre-made fits. I am so new I am just learning a lot of this so I am just having a blast. Last night I ran my standard Logi suit in my first squad. We went 2win/2loss and I got some serious training on squad play. I think I may enjoy scout even more since there is some more direct action then just running around with my repper. |

50M for the Gal collection. (if it was AUR i would rage at their existence because they look hideous, like Cal-Commando ugly but worse)
Feel free to shove that massive pile to me . Although now my unspent SP are used up and I am pubcrawling for SP. Thinking of a booster or two to get things going a little faster. |

Heh. What's funny is I was contemplating spending some AUR for some BPO gear just have so "go-to" scout stuff to use and then those APEX suits come out... from what everyone is saying they are totally not worth the money and everyone should go back to their houses and make their own. I was just hoping to make some effective, but "free" suits. |
