Just recently decided to dip my toes into the scout pond...and I'm having a blast so far! Unlike most (if not all) other scouts, I'm running strictly as a defender; if it all possible, I'll position myself close to a node that has a supply depot within easy reach. From there I drop my remote explosives (finding it a much better idea to cover three sides of a CRU rather than focus on nodes) and then find some place to take cover.
And then I wait.
Best feeling in the game--even better than a sniping headshot on a jumping target from 500m away--is running up to an enemy while he's busy hacking and headshotting him with a shotgun from an arm's -length away. My favorite battle is the one in which I went 13-0 with my poor little STD/Basic Gallente suit while successfully defending our node for the entire battle. Sadly, I rarely get the opportunity to stick with a scout suit for an entire battle, so that may be why that battle stands out to me.
Spending this week's cap working towards unlocking the Gallente scout suits and claiming their passive bonus. Doubt I'll ever run anything above a STD fit, but that profile reduction should come in handy! |

Quick question: Do profile dampeners have a stacking penalty? I'm running a standard Gallente scout (level 1 bonus + level 1 dampening skill) and decided to give up one reactive plate (out of the two I had equipped) in exchange for the standard dampener, which should reduce my profile 22% in total. Considering the fact that I'm all but dead if I actually have to engage an opponent, is it worth giving up my other reactive plate for another dampener? It's not as though there's a huge difference between 100/200 EHP and 100/150 EHP! |

It's not as though there's a huge difference between 100/200 EHP and 100/150 EHP! It doesnt matter whether they have a stack penalty or not. The important thing for you, is that with your current skillset, a single dampener will get you invisible to the beginner level scanners, but not the ADV scanners. Furthermore, using two of them will, at best, get you to 30.25 profile. That still wont get you invisible to ADV scanners. Getting your suit up to level 2, and your dampening up to level 3, AND 2 basic dampeners, will get you clear of ADV scanners. That's the smallest-SP path to beating those, I think. Get both suit an damp skill to level 3, and you wont need any modules to beat the basic scanners. So try to do that as soon as possible. Cool. Think I'm about 60k SP away from lv.2 suits, so they'll have to wait for next week as I'm 10k from the cap currently.
What kind of loadouts do people run for their low-powered slots? Do veteran scouts bother with armor/reps or do they focus on scanning/dampening modules? |

Rough going out there for me today. Unlocked the lv.2 Gallente scout suit and tried to play in my customary "lurk in the shadows and shotgun-to-the-head unsuspecting Reds"; it didn't go very well. I'm fine with one or two reds trying to enter my web, but damn, these squads in FW lately have been running rampant. Not a good feeling to see the radar light up with five or six reds approaching! That said, I try to stay hidden as long as possible and hope to catch a few them in an RE blast, then hope for the best as the rest come after me. Obviously, some maps are much better for practicing this style than others...
Oh, and let's not forget when my team fell by the wayside as the reds pushed towards our one objective, and I was suddenly dealing with two or three infantry closing in from in front and each side, and two very angry tanks with blaster turrets beelining right for me. Next time, at least offer some Vaseline!!! |

So...yesterday went pretty well for me when I had the chance to run in my scout suit. Out of 7-8 total FW matches, I was able to stay in my scout suit for 3 or 4 of them, and finished somewhere along the lines of 16-0 for those matches. Only took about 100 damage in total from enemy fire (and probably about three times as much in fall damage.) I'm surprised at how few people actually team up to capture an objective; it's just too easy to pick off solo reds as they come sprinting to an objective. Heck, in one of the battles (5 nodes, C and E are closest to the respective starting locations) I was defending the C node. Had my usual two REs placed on the sides of the CRU furthest away from me and the third next to the doorway at the top of the steps leading to the supply depot (which is where I wait.) Saw an enemy run over to the Rail Turret and begin hacking it, so I jumped down and gave him a shotgun head-shot. I then made to run back into the relative safety of the building, only to spot a red arrow down the road. Wanting to get a better look, I caught enough of a glimpse to spot a heavy coming my way, at which point he opened fire on me with his HMG. Unable to reach the doorway, I spun around and ran alongside the outside wall all the way to the CRU. No sign of the heavy anywhere...until I notice the RT firing at the supply depot. Why would he hack the turret and not the node or CRU? I then sprinted through the building and ran right up behind the heavy as he fired the RT. He never even moved as I pumped a few shots into him:)
Sigh...only another week or so until I can unlock the advanced scout suit! |

Good hunting today. Got to play back-to-back games on my favorite scouting map (new map with 5 nodes, C and E closest to the starting point of each side) and faithfully defended C for both battles. Finished probably in the neighborhood of 15-2. Best moment was playing a game of cat and mouse with a Red on the floor below me (I was at the doorway at the top of the steps, in front of the supply depot) and he knew where I was...and knew that I knew that he knew. He danced around between the C node and the doorway leading to the CRU but never ventured into sight.
"Patience," I told myself.
So I danced along with him, following his movements, waiting for one opening. Then I saw another red dot show up on my radar. I watched the arrow come through the doorway on the roadside and into the hallway and noticed the walls light up at the foot of the stairs--a heavy packing a forge gun! I waited just long enough for the heavy to see me before ducking out of sight behind the wall and rounding the corner.
Sure enough, the heavy charged up the stairs and made it about two steps onto the upper floor before I detonated the RE that I always place beside the doorway for just such an occasion. Kill +50. Perhaps finally accepting his fate, the original Red made his move. Kill +50.
All told, C was hacked one time (where I promptly killed the hacker and re-hacked it after being killed initially) and the supply depot was hacked for a moment by a spawning enemy while I took back C. He didn't even have time to savor his handiwork before I gunned him in the back and re-took what was rightfully mine.
Since I haven't had the chance to use the Thale's that I've finally unlocked, I'd have to say playing as the Death-in-the-Shadows scout role is my absolute favorite (assuming that enemies actually try and capture the installations nearby!)
Life is killing me.
