Since my scout friend Yun Hee Ryeon has made a guide about scout shotgunning, but has yet to share it with the larger scout community here in the DUST forums, I thought to link it here on her behalf. It has useful tidbits of information, and it's mainly focused on newer scouts.
The thread is in Backstage, so as a small note to any and all interested DUST roleplayers out there, Backstage is a good place to discuss lore and your characters there. |

Some People *cough*Marauder*cough* got their first 20k kills in a different suit all together. Every week, Shotty updates the front page, because he's awesome like that, to reflect your week's kills and any change in KDR. It's a good metric for how the Scout community is fairing, though not the best. That would be a nightmare to track only kills made in Scout suits/Light Frame. Especially for me, I've got 3 different assault suits, 3 different logi suits, and a Sentinel suit I get kills in. LMFAO I just realized Appia has Caldari-Assault, Gallente-Assault, & Amarr-Assault BPOs. Amarr-Logi BPO, skills in Gallente&Caldari Logi, and an Amarr Sentinel BPO. And skills in Gallente Scout. That really does a great job reflecting how worthless I think Minmatar suits are. 8213, to make the board you need to run a scout suit or light frame suit 51% of the time or more. To get on the first post you need more than 5000 kills total. Elsewise you are on post #7. I'm starting to feel an odd one out because I use scout suits pretty much exclusively in any situation, ambush, skirmish, domination, FW or PC. As far as I know I only have tens to a few hundred kills while not in a scout suits, and those are mostly vehicle road kills or the VERY rare times I pull out my militia logi suit.

Pretty much, playing being a dedicated scout for so long with such a fragile suit makes you amazing at every other role. I can't do anything with nothing else other than a scout suit and a shotgun, weirdly enough.
I just instantly start panicking when the scanned messages start popping up, and I'm so slow that I can't use my usual detours, it's really annoying. :/

Our squad of scouts just had the most epic moment, it was me, Yan Darn, Maken Tosch, Lorelei Zee, Shotty Mayhem and Phalad Sahantun, my logi corpmate. We were all playing on the Gallente Research Facility.
There was this guy named TonZa, using a commando suit with a proto rail rifle, who was really annoying. On the ramp that's outside rhe CRU on B objective, we saw the commando coming up. So every single one lf us just waited around the corner, patiently waiting for this commando to waddle up the ramp. And just when he cleared the corner, he was being knifed and shot at by all six of us.
We were just laughing our assess off as the commando instantly panicked and backed up while we slaughtered him, it was the most epic moment ever.
o7 to everyone involved

Just a question about the board - I've been playing since the last time my merc had her funny walk, I'm only invested in Gal scout.
I get that there is/was a constructive point to the board, and im not going to pretend I play/ed an active part of th scout community (or that Im a good scout) but I can't help thinking its a bit weird that it/was also the only way to determine who was scouting before 1.8 was announced...
Like those films about Vampires/Werewolves/Aliens whatever - where apparently you have to register with proclaimed authority because of the sheer nature of being what you are.
And as for suffering...weren't scouts OP in beta?
This all comes across as a bit bitchy - love you guys really. Personally, I've never really been interested about the whole true scout debacle, or any of the other issues that scouts have had ever since Chromosome and beyond. Frankly, the original reason I signed up for the registry was so I could see how well I fared against other scouts, and leave a tiny mark of my own in DUST history.
I never wanted to participate in the discussion about whether or not scouts are UP, OP or anything in between either, even before 1.8. It's such a heated and controversial topic, and I don't want to stir the pot even more. Maybe its because I blame myself first for my failures before my suit or my weapons, and I'm thus less prone to calling things OP or UP. I just work my way around issues and adapt, no crying done.
I love the rush of adrenaline I get when I successfully sneak abehind enemy lines. I love dodging gunfire and charging straight at an enemy with explosives at hand in a suicidal spur of rage. I love having conversations with redline snipers and other enemies oblivious of my presence, even though they'll never hear me. I love the satisfaction I get when I kill an entire enemy squad by myself using a highly coordinated RE trap and finish off with a shotgun. I just love being a scout, and that's all I need. It being UP, OP or balanced doesn't really matter to me, I'll work my way around issues.
I may not be a famous forum person like Arkena, Shotty and Regnum, or one of the top 10 scouts in existence, or one of the oldest members around, I don't really do anything memorable besides roleplay a lot and write stories, which probably a handful of people will only ever see. I'll most likely just be forgotten in the future as just another faceless grunt, a nobody. Signing up for something like this, and being elevated into a "true/veteran scout" status is my way of saying: "I was there", and have at least a name remain of me years after this thread has ceased to exist.
In the end, I'll continue being a bastard scout with remotes and shotguns until this game is no more.

That seems way too much for a patch, it'd be a few extra months of waiting when these patches are supposed come in one month cycles. Yeah, the holidays delayed things a bit, but having to wait until April when they have been working on this patch for two months now is just too long.
I mean, 1.8 is just a patch, not an expansion like Uprising originally was. My bet is that they'll announce the next expansions for DUST as well as EVE at FanFest.

Yan Darn wrote:You guys have convinced me though - I do have a lot of fun with REs, I guess I'm just overreacting to the fact that:
1: the idea that hackers might survive rigged consoles
2: When hastily throwing down an RE when avoiding a pursuing heavy - sometimes they have to actually turn the corner before I can detonate and just the split second of fire they put out before being exploded nearly kills me...
The concern is a little silly I guess, most suits are gettin buffs - yes, but in comparison, only the commando is really getting the relatively high level of buffage we are.
Whatever difficulties I face in 1.8 - I doubt it'll compare to what I've endured in the past 7 months. I have the same concern as well, but I'll just have to adapt into the situation. I think if a heavy survives my RE blast, I'll try to move in with my shotgun to try and finish him off, depending how low on health he is. Otherwise I'll just have to retreat and engage from a more advantageous position.

When I was making lots of Gallente Logistics suits, I made sure I came up with an order to put things in and always followed it. Otherwise I would make the mistake of which EQ to use all the time. Wait, you can move that stuff around? If you have multible equipment slots, their order determines what part of the equipment wheel you select it, and it goes in clockwise order. For instance on a scout, placing your remote explosives on the right-side equipment slot puts them first on the equipment wheel, and your cloak which you place on the next slot is selected from the wheel after that.
I've done a bit of logi work with my BPO needle and reptool using my Skinweave logi suit, as well as rocking my remotes and uplinks combo on my Type II scout, and I've become quite good at selecting which equipment to take. When we got two equipment slots again, it didn't take long for me to smoothly switch between my cloak and remotes. Keeping your equipment in the same order is crucial for your muscle memory, and it stops a lot of mixups with selecting the wrong equipment.

"Scouts take a break from Dusting" I would say that if you've played DUST 514 for extensive times or as your only game for a long time, trying something new and fresh makes you appreciate DUST as it is in a whole new way. Sure, there are the occasional glitches, and the raging moments, and the hopeless protostomps that rid the game, but I still like DUST, and playing a purely rage-inducing game like Dark Souls II has made me perform better in battle.
So yeah, take a break, try some other games you may have tried. It helps a lot, at least for me it did.
And I'm insulted that none of you have mentioned Super Stardust HD or Wipeout HD + Fury expansion, both of those games are awesome!

I was pretty careful with both pairs; poor design, methinks. The fat kid at GameStop recommended I try Sony Pulse Elite. I've had 'em for about a year now; good quality, no complaints. My Turtle Beach P11 headset has been running without issues for half a year now, as well as being really comfortable to wear for long periods of time. On top of that, and having an excellent microphone, they're compatible with a PC too, I definitely recommend those!
