/shrug As a minmater logi with my totally OP hacking bonus this is pretty much how I run too. I use a mass driver and frequently work as the cleanup crew (or as my corp mates call it "being a kill stealing bastard") finishing off anyone left and then picking up the remaining bits and pieces of my squad. In a one on one against just about anyone I won't survive (barring the rare and special unicorn of a direct hit). The problem as I see it always comes back to A) There's hardly any reason to use any weapon besides an AR and B) The Caldari logi shield bonus should be tuned down a smidge. Also I have three words to anyone suggesting taking away our light slots and giving us two sidearms instead: DUAL FLAYLOCK PISTOLS The thing is, this is a game about specialization and emergent tactical team play. That is the end goal anyway; TBQH, this game is not and should not be designed around solo kdr whoring IMO.
Current implied logi roles based on design choices as I see them IMHO:
Amarr: You are a hybrid, the logi for the guy who wants to play assault. You're amarr, so you're slow; but your high base HP allows greater benefit from passive % skills and slightly makes up for your limited slot layout. Your slot layout is limited because you get a sidearm which allows you to play this class just like an assault and improves your ability to KILL things, but with greater utility through equipment. Your racial bonus provides simliar fast recovery assaults enjoy and allows you to keep up with logistics on the frontline; you are honestly a tertiary "logi" who should be running an injector to pick the guy next to you up so your rep logis don't have to take time away from reps and the utility equipment other logis can't spare a slot for (scanner, remote explosives, proximity mines, upcoming modules like deployable shields, etc.).
Caldari: You are a combat support logi / slayer support. Your high hitpoints allow you to be a bit closer to the front line than your Gallente counterparts, but you do not have the offensive benefit of a sidearm enjoyed by your Amarr counterpart or the inherent fast recovery of an assault, so you still need to let them go first. You give up an equipment slot for this survivability. You are not as fast as your Minmatar counterparts so are a less effective flanker or harasser, but can keep up with a hit-and-run squad of slayers and take advantage of the 2-target reps to keep a group of assaults pushing forward. You are meant to be right behind your slayers repping them, and putting out suppressive fire to blunt advances as your slayers/heavies reload or your comrades fall. You are the secondary "logi" on the defensive who will be first to switch from reps to guns to hold the line while your gallente counterparts put humpty dumpty back together again.
Gallente: Primary squad support player ("Logi") / Heavy support: You're slow as **** so you keep up with heavies just fine. Your racial bonus allows you to stack proto reps, proto uplinks, proto/repair nanohives, proto injector and be the core of any bunker defense. Your armor tank takes advantage of inate logi armor repair and you stack plates and reps. You also stack complex shield extenders to protect against explosive damage coming into your squad. You're role is to support your squad from behind your heavies and the rest of the squad alive in the classic logistics manner.
Minmatar: Speed and utility. This is the guy that is going to sprint from the MCC to objectives, lay down proto drop uplinks, proto nanohives, and remote explosives. He's going to hold back rather than rushing forward alone, wait for his team to spawn, throw out reps from behind teammates as he can, harass with a Tac AR or shotgun to protect the squad's flanks in CQC, but generally be looking for a way to flank, harass, and move the line of combat.
So any of the other logis who wanted to be a frontline combat support logi or run and gun with slayers and didn't choose Caldari, well, you just didn't choose wisely for your desired role and should have done some better analysis before hand.
Saying "Caldari logi is OP" is simplistic. It has more to do with current meta and squad tactics seen most often, and even more to do with external factors like armor vs. shield balance. |
