Everyone should watch this video and take note...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOFuGEL2PQ4
I have been nothing but an advocate for Dust514, but yesterday I cranked up my headphones and went back to battlefield3 expansion packs.
CCP take note of your competition.... Battlefield4 is the future of FPS on the PS3/PS4. The Unreal engine cant compete and its silly to think that its even close.
As i heard bullets zipping past my head... concrete crumbling around me as I slid into cover all I could think was that in Dust the Shotgun sounds like you are throwing a dodgeball at someone... and falling sounds like crunching celery. *sigh*.
I dont want to be grim because the eve world and lore is awesome, and I enjoy dust character development... The question is, if Dust lacks the blockbuster game graphics/sound how do you beat that gameplay experience.... what about NUMBERS!!! Not total numbers of people playing ... Number of people per match.
Games like Mag and joint Ops were awesome because of the number of people in one match at one time. These massive sandbox battlegrounds made up for the crappy graphics. in 64 v 64 or 100 v 100... having 10 people sitting in MCC wouldn't matter as much. in a 16v16 match having 6 people in MCC kills your team and makes it not fun.
The way I look at it. Dust has until October 2013 to really push out something new and innovative or they risk losing more bunnies like myself to frostbite 3. Fanboy or not you can't deny the irresistibility of these graphics, sound and game mechanics.
Just some observations from an old gamer. What do you guys think?

I think CCP is their own publisher. If this is correct then it follows that they are indie- pendant.

Ya your right... Im stuck in the old school when Indie was some dude named Gus in his basement making games in-between computer science classes.

Yeah I have been playing BF3 recently too as dust has seriously gotten stale, even after the patch notes of 1.2 |

Dude you are on here every day, day to night. Do you ever leave your pc?
Fanboi on another level.
Any ways yes the game is boring and everyone besides evetards are leaving dust. Just look at the numbers.
We dont need another youtube video showcasing it, as ccp knows there in trouble, that is why all the dev blogs are streaming out all of a sudden. Oh and I went back to planetside |

Oh noes!!! not a hipster neck beard that only plays DLC!!! Cuz its COOLER!
I will enjoy it... and so will over 10 million other people. I will also enjoy Dust... which if you would have read the rest of the original post you would have seen that I am looking to generate conversation and thought around competing with a revolutionary engine like frostbite 3 to increase dust play base.

It's not really the Unreal Engine that's the problem.... Have you seen games on the Unreal Engine? Yeah, they may not have as much destruction as Battlefield but they still look good. Arkham City and Bioshock Infinite as an example. And have you seen the demos for Unreal Engine 4? It looks better than Battlefield 3 of course, maybe even 4 in some ways. If Dust had to keep the graphics it has and without destruction I wouldn't care. I don't see Dust competing with COD or BF.
It is it's own game, sure it's an FPS, but most BF players and COD players probably wouldn't enjoy this game, even if the shooting mechanics were perfect and it had plenty of content, I read some forum posts yesterday of a guy that played the game he didn't even try a match, he said wait, you have to level up skills? I'm not playing this. |

Agree and take your side, but CCP do not have the financial backing to:
a) Create a world beating graphics/game engine (which can cost $50 million+ without breaking a sweat) b) Create a world beating FPS or MMORPFPS
The deal DICE have with Electronic Arts is very similar to the one Crytek have with them.
EA pretty much paid for the dev cost of the engine and have exclusive rights to this engine for their studio devs, so EA have Frostbite sewn up tighter than their own ***.
Maxis also struck a deal with EA for the glassbox engine, although this wasn't a graphics engine, it was more a simulation engine and was used for the recent Sim City.
CCP would need to strike a deal with EA (or similar) to get either development of their own graphics/game engine running, or provide funding/resources to get access to Frostbite, or similar.
Either way, CCP cannot do this alone.
In fact, I dare them to prove me wrong and move forward to the level in that video with no financial backing.
I throw that gauntlet down because it took them 3 years to get drones working correctly in EVE - and have yet to offer a high res texture pack for EVE, even though it already exists on their servers and is used for promotional material.

Seriously though, CCP botched their estimated timeline so damn hard. The two things that could have helped make PC actually interesting and engaging are like at least 6 months out, if not much much longer (persistent world maps, meaningful and engaging game type). And even when we do get that game type, based off of the fact that it took them a year to develop Domination.....yea....um....yea. |

I play because I enjoy it- not because of flashy effects we'll forget were even there after we get used to them. Btw, you can hear bullets on dust- best way to know when a sniper is shooting at you is to listen for the subtle sound of a bullet missing near you.
Speaking of concrete crumbling, why does 1 map have a crumbled wall RIGHT next to a gate? |

But, looking at this video, battlefield 4 will probably be my "sp capped" game of choice, until dust is further developed.
No matter what, I'm sticking with dust. All this game needs is time, patience, player loyalty, and players willing to help give feedback and bug reports (we may be out of beta, but the game is buggy enough that we still have beta-player responsibilities) |
