With most of the selling points for this game being........" a persistant shooter" with no worries of a new version releasing every year costing another $60, or resetting stats per version.......Do you see yourself playing for years? At the current rate of content and fixes coming down the pipe, how long do you plan to play this persistant shooter?

I'll try to answer this in the context of EVE online, a game which I do play.
I LOVE EVE. However, I have very little time to play it, and often... I can't. But I keep coming back to it when I have time, because it's unusually engaging, more so than other MMOs I've played. This is somewhat funny, because by all accounts EVE should be boring. I can attack an enemy by pressing f1, orbit, and just wait for a rather prolonged math formula to finish calculating. However, despite this, I find combat in EVE often more exhilarating than other games, because those ships I bought with my money (ISK), and the enemy ship with there's. It gives me a deeper level of excitement than in just about any other game, especially when I'm roaming about in my tiny little ship. I really wish I could explain this better, but despite everything, EVE's combat is very exciting.
The other thing about EVE is that alot of the things retain usefulness over time. Take WoW for example, if you stopped playing when you were level 60, in all AQ gear, and came back today, it wouldn't mean a penny. You'd be able to have better gear / stronger in a second, and you'd have to play catch up. In EVE however, I have one character I don't play anymore, simply because I don't have the time to keep him and my other characters all up. He flies frigates, the smallest combat ships in the game, specifically interceptors. If I came back with him, a year later, his perfect inty skills would STILL be useful. I could still use it in small - medium gang roams, and still be a useful member of the team.
Now back to how this relates to DUST:
You gain SP passively, even if you take a break, and also DUST is planning to expand gear wise on a horizontal basis. In other words, there's (probably) not going to be a "Super-Proto" Level. They might add a "Tech 3" variant of armor, one that allows a suit to be a more adaptable role. They might also add Pirate / Navy variants that are super expensive, but Proto gear will still be viable. The gun skills you have now will still be useful, and assuming you have all your core skills, and at least one variant maxed, you'll still be viable in whatever "high-end" stuff DUST offers.
I am confident this game will keep going on, and won't be dying any time soon. During that time people will take breaks, new content will come out, and players will return. I think DUST has enough large scale plans to easily not run out of expansion material anytime in the next few years, although they may take awhile to get around to it. People are free to go play other games, such as the Last of Us, or whatever cool new games come out in a few years, but I think DUST will be a title many of them return to after that. Others will remain dedicated to DUST and just not spend money on other titles, sticking purely to DUST.
So to answer your question, yes, I do think one could really play DUST for years. |

How many ppl will actually play a game consistently for years? We all take breaks to play other games. Many of us have a rotation of games that we play. I used to do this with subscription games, but now do it with F2P games so I can play any genre of game when the mood strikes me. Will I be playing dust in a decade? Probably if I own a PS4-PS5. I'll probably also be playing many other games. Just because you play dust, doesn't mean it's the only game you play.
I enjoy ccp's selling point that it will always be there with free updates/expansions. It is currently in my permanent rotation until I'm forced to get a PS4 and have to decide if I want another console. |

No i do not see myself playing the same FPS for years.
Dust has also made some pretty idiotic choices that look like they are going to stick which makes the game even more unappealing for long term play. Playing an FPS with evaporating bullets has a half life of about 6 months i think. |

Good point, but (this year and maybe next) after playing PS4 will you want to go back? will it look like a Playstation 2 game? |

I really want to, though... I become excited by what the devs say they want to do, crestfallen by what actually occurs. The only thing that keeps me going is the promise of a better tomorrow... With each passing day, I lose morale and hope. I am no longer mad, I am disappointed. |

Dust is disappointing right now. I can't say I will play for years if things go as they are right now.
But EVE had a rocky start too, and it is generally considered one of the most successful mmos. (PC gaming wise, an mmo is considered successful if it can retain its subscription base. It then falls to a one-time purchase fee to earn money back for investors if it starts to tank, and then it falls into the oblivion of "free-to-play" if it completely fails to meet any expectations.)
Since Dust has started as a free-to-play game, and CCP is not charging anyone a subcription nor a one-time purchase fee (thank goodness, because if they did they would simple embarrass themselves), this means they intended and expected Dust to have a "humble beginning".
I don't think Dust is going to have the same 'gestation' time that Eve did (10 years), but I expect it to be a much better polished game a year from now. It will start small and weak, and provided it keeps stupid decisions to a minimum, it will inevitably grow into a giant, just like it's older sister Eve... and it will start stealing players from the other shooters inevitably.
So again. Right now, Dust is garbage. Obviously. It will take time to mature. In ONE year's time, you better watch out though. |

Coming to PS4 this year PS2 has no sense of ownership like DUST gives. There's also not a lot of background for why this is happening, none that I know of. It will be a fun casual game but nothing to leave DUST for....as much as this game pisses me off. |
