Just had a heavy walk up behind me, nearly right next to me, tear me up with an HMG, then walk away. Never once showed up on my radar.
Why do we even have that thing again? |

lol. It can't even spot tanks or LAVs right next to you.
It did once help catch a ninja knifer right behind me, so I guess that's why? |

No way, as a heavy player myself the only time i ever find it easy to sneak up on people is if there bad, there distracted or doing something that would involve not looking at the radar
80% of the time they will turn around. |

Tank hunting with a swarm launcher from some high ground.
I always watch the radar, and very often get killed by people that don't show up on it. It usually doesn't bother me, I just figure they are too far away, or their suit has decent dampening or something.
But this time the guy was right next to me before he opened fire, and it was a heavy/HMG. There's just no excuse for that.

It's possible the heavy could have profile dampening. To see better, equip a scan precision. It helps you to see nearby enemies. |

dropsuit scan is 10m thats first small circle so yes it is there but its so small its not worth even having and that 10m is on all dropsuits. |

Each suit has a scan radius. Med frames have a 90 degree angle of scan radius. That basically covers everything you can see on the screen. light frames have a 120 degree scan radius. This covers your whole screen and a bit of your sides. Heavies have a 60 degree scan radius. This basically covers anything you look DIRECTLY at or very close to that area. All suits have a very tight 360 degrees of coverage. It is very close to you tho so it is only good for finding people who sneek up on you.
If a heavy snuck up on you I can recommend 3 things.
1. Put points onto your scan radius.
2. increas profile detection. (the ability to detect, not the ability to be detected)
3. Watch your back more often.
EDIT: Even if you dont see people in your angle of detection, that is because you do no have proper detection skills. lvl them up and you will see everybody, everywere (within your detection angles). |

Also it's not technically a radar since it doesn't use radio waves. That's a bit irrelevant, I know. But what a lot of people don't realize is that that map is shared by the entire team so if you find a red dot it will show up for everyone on your team. Because of this we honestly don't even realize how much scanning sucks now.
CCP went insane reducing scan radius and making changes to that system and it is far, far more useless than most people realize because most of the red that are showing up were seen by another player, not detected by your suit.
EDIT:Almost forgot the most important part: The best way around the garbage suit scanners is to run with a squad, maybe even have one player with an active scanner. |

Was i the only one who came expecting to *NOM NOM* on some popcorn to a good ole' fashioned QQ thread about Radar's nova knives? Radar got nerfed in uprising. It sucks. Heavies can ambush now, welp hope no one in their right minds is still QQ'ing about heavies being nerfed. I get smoked by proto heavies in pc more than anything else. |

Very simple: The radar only shows people that are in YOUR line of sight and the line of sight of other people. So if nobody spoted that heavy and he sneaked up on you then your team obviously did something wrong. Or he just spawned behind you, uncloaked and teared you apart with his HMG. Which is more likely. |

'minor' correction, but the inner circle is 20m not ten.
Just throwing that out there. It is a 100% difference.

I'm using active scanners and while they are awesome when they work, sometimes there are matches in which they are completely bugged, picking up no signatures. |

We have it because of the same person that designed MCCs to fly over a battlefield with a nice overview and no scanners and all that stuff... |
