Many have recently predicted the demise of Dust 514. We dont agree, but there are several obvious core issues that have yet to be addressed for a game that has [shockingly] had a retail launch. The problem is that many natives are growing restless. Player numbers are dropping and the CCP strategy of 2,5 and 10 year roadmaps that works well on PC, is failing horribly with console players. More concerning is the fact that the patience of many in the hardcore playerbase seems to have reached their limit. These players are CCP supporters but now are wondering whether the game is still a place for them, as a nasty crop of questionable-at-best casual mechanics has crept into the game. With no word from CCP, they have no clue whether shameful elements like the cartoony LAV issues [aptly named Mariokart 514] are issues they intend on fixing or working as intended.
Its certainly not doomsday as we havent even seen a major marketing push, but CCP needs to address these issues before they spiral out of control. A recent poll showed bugs, technical issues and poor FPS mechanics as players chief complaint. Many recent changes have also tuned weapons with the unskilled player in mind rather than the skilled one. This breaks the game and fails at the core because if the average skilled player can get 30 kills with a Flaylock, the skilled player can triple that. This is the reason noob tubes in any form is a bad idea. Right now the forums are a wasteland of negative threads and shitposting that would turn away any new player curious about the Dust 514 experience. Now is the time to communicate and resolve, as it may be too late in the coming months.

I hear people talking about player numbers dropping. Has anyone thought of the possibility that it is high summer now and ALL games are suffering from the fact that most people have a life and prefer to spend time outside rather than in front of the screen? |

I should have bookmarked it... Dust Fiend made a great post about a ton of issues. The blog seems accurate in terms of the things people are concerned about and how things were in the forums just a couple short days ago -- and might be again when we get the next update. |

The games industry is suffering because of the overall quality and quantity of releases. Combine that with the recession/depression, and people just don't have money to throw around for games (hence the rise of the freemium plague)
Microsoft and Sony are ready to canniblize their underdeveloped platforms. Consoles are suffering horribly from a lack of AAA titles, most current releases have the enjoyment and service time of a common prostitute, Game stores are suffering because of the shift to digital downloads for console games (they were already under pressure when PC games started the shift), which limits population via second-hand buyers.
The indy and casual markets are already becoming riddled with scamshop titles, and it's becoming a major peeve of the general gaming community because so many developers (of which we can now count CCP among them) see this as some kind of genuine long-term revenue generator, and it's pissing off their real customers.
I'll say it now, again. Freemiums and scam shops are the hallmark of a dead or dying game, and of a developer that has wifllingly given up on the quality of their product and just want to make fast cash off suckers, even at the cost of souring the relationship and trust they have with their fans. |

im famous on the interwebz! in all seriousness though. while i love what i think Dust can become its failing horribly at getting there. might be a good idea to gain passive and wait for the game to actually be playable.
only issue there is its easier to keep customers than it is to win them back, CCP. |

I like the free model as long as isn't structured so that it's a pay to win. I'm willing to pony up bucks if I'm getting ongoing entertainment from it. It fits in with the Internet era where everything is "free" I suppose. |

The max daily player count seems to be holding sready at 5.5k. It is summer and the content is low, I really dont see a max exodus. So what if a couple "fps royalty"(ha) have left. They are not that important. No one person is that important. |

Sometimes while playing Dust I just have to periodically stop and look at my stack of games, and I ask myself, "Why am I not playing Killzone 3? It works fine, I enjoy it, it runs smoothly, many people still play it..."
I want to like DUST, I want to support it, I have played it enough I have spent the $50 as I would have on a full title, but this game... this game is soo aggravating for so many reasons. All I can say is you can't blame people for looking at other things. One could say other games suck or are great, but despite opinions on other titles DUST just seems to have an uncanny ability to wear down anyone regardless of devotion. |

Haha, I'm not even going to begin the KZ2vs3 debate. I like to use my move controllers and KZ3 support for those is excellent, but I shall leave it at that |

KZ3 Alpha code was better than the retail version
KZ2 > KZ3 in pretty much every way possible. The only great thing to come from KZ3 was "operations" and unfortunately GG failed to support it. |

Operations was probably the only real cool thing about KZ3 and sharpshooter/move support except on OP OHK Sniper. |

Yes to everything you wrote!! And to Calisk unfortunately these "spam" posts are a reaction by players to the inaction of CCP. Furthermore, in the past CCP listen to the group that screamed the loudest and complained the most, so all people are doing is reacting according to CCP's actions, it's sad but CCP brought this upon themselves, and further complicated things when they wasted money on a "PR" person when the money should have gone to either the game or a real PR company.
Things are bad and if you don't thinks so then your delusional, right now the game only has 4,700 people online, in the game I'm now playing there are over 25,000 people on at this very moment and that is only one of four servers.
CCP still has a chance to fix this mess, but unless they act fast they will completely lose their hardcore/skilled base which would only leave a group of blueberrys which is nothing to be happy with. |

I almost never click on these links to blogs, but I'm glad I did this time. You hit a lot of the issues that plague this game.
Between poor performance, an incomplete dropsuit and vehicle design (e.g. tons of missing racial variants making it impossible to make meaningful decisions with SP), and horrific balance issues (shield vs armor tanking (both HAV and dropsuit) and poor weapon balance/design), it makes this game increasingly harder to enjoy. |

yea CCP is turning their back on their original target audience one that wanted a hardcore game, they're targeting COD players now but the thing is this is not and will not ever be COD, no matter how much they dumb it down, the COD players (a bunch of little kids susceptible to marketing strategies) will not flock to this simply because it's not COD, CCP is wasting their time pursuing this audience and has turned their back on their original fanbase which were initially attracted to dust as their are no "hardcore" alternatives out there. so once the CODtards tire of their guns in space, they too will leave this game after having it ruined. |
