Actually it "technically" can go negative it just has to go below 1.00. But other wise yeah it can't go negative. |

I thought that I was the only one in this game who thought it was dumb everytime someone said they "went negative". Thank god there are other people that can do math in this game.
Seriously, I could *maybe*, understand if it was something that a player had to calculate.... I guess...? But it's NOT, it's a damn number that shows up in multiple places.... and it never has a negative sign.
So, if you can't do math, okay, but learn to read at least..... |

I see where you are going but if your kills are not above your deaths it still doesn't mean that your kills are less than nothing. For that to happen your kills would have to be less than zero.....

Well, I thought you were implying this dude..... you mention the idea of negative being something less than nothing (0). Then you say if your kills are less than your deaths and you do the thing with the dots..... you know, like I should ponder your statement.
So, I stretch out and think "okay, how low can my kills get? Sure, zero is the lowest, and that's still not lower than nothing"
Ouch, some of the logic in this thread is making my head hurt. It's a thread about KDR but if we wanna talk about something else and you want me to guess what it is.... use more dots at the end of your sentences, maybe that will help. |

It is simple logic really. If your KDR goes down it is being reduced. This implies subraction and to do that we must apply a negative value. It is because KDR is an average we do not see the negative numbers. |

Oh my God. Forget it.... it is simple logic, really.
KDR = Kill to Death ratio. In mathematical terms this means Kills / Deaths = some number. For "some number" to be negative, either number of kills or number of deaths needs to be negative.
If by "going negative" people really mean, "my KDR is decreasing", okay - I sort of get this. But, at no point is the actual KDR negative.... nor is anything being subtracted anywhere.
Average is (Number 1 + Number 2 + .....+ Number N) / total number of numbers in the sequence.
There is no 'subtraction' there, implied or otherwise.
But peace! I see where you guys are going with your somewhat illogical math and logic.

Basically I'm saying if you don't get more kills than deaths as a slayer than you are less than nothing and should biomass your character.
Not really, you can still drive an LAV or something

The term "going negative" is from using a KD spread instead of a KD ratio.
15 kills minus 4 deaths = +11 KD Spread 4 kills minus 15 deaths = -11 KD Spread |

I think what the OP is getting at is that if your total kills is lower than your total deaths, then your stats won't show it as a -k/d,like -2.35 or something like that.
So what the issue is here is that it comes down to phrasing.Once your deaths are higher than your kills,it's a death to kill ratio.Basically,it's the same thing, but without a negative number,so at that point,it should indicate that you have more deaths than kills instead of more kills than deaths. That's where the negative number would come in.
There should absolutely be a negative number for k/d if you are tracking that stat(which I think they should do away with). |

anyone with a KDR of below at least 1.0 needs to step up their game, if your not getting a postive KD at the end of the match you failed your team as an asset and generally let yourself down. |

The quotient of two positive* integers is always a positive rational. I can probably come up with a proof that the product (and thus, quotient) of two positives is positive, if anyone really cares. So yes, k/d > 0 for all k, d > 0
Of course, we could argue that "positive" and "negative" in this context refer to the exponential sign. You see, any number** can be represented as e^x for some x. Even negative numbers, although you need a complex value of x for that. Anyway, when x is negative, the absolute value of e^x is less than 1.
We could also take negative and positive to be referring to the rate of change. This makes sense in the context of "going negative", which is how people often say it. If a function of the rate of change of your kdr could be made, then that function would be negative if the value was decreasing. In this context the negativity has no bearing on what your kdr actually is. You could have a kdr of ten and you would be considered negative because of a game where you did poorly.
*Defining "positive" here as "greater than 0"
**Except 0. There is no x such that e^x = 0 |

No, it isn't. Sorry, but you're wrong.
If people meant this, they would refer to going negative anytime their in match KDR is less than their current lifetime KDR. SO, people might say they're going negative even with a match kdr of say 2.0, if their lifetime KDR was 3.0.
When people say going negative, they are referring to a KDR of less than 1, and that is pretty stupid.

I'm not sure that anyone here is upset. I can say, for one, that I'm not. However, it doesn't take me being upset to point out when something is illogical or stupid, as is the case here.

So, in my little world, anything beneath a 1 to 1 ratio is negative. If we're arguing this "logically" for the sake of "logical" debate, then sure, I guess I can see people getting flustered. |
