Yeah I actually winched the first time I read the words bomber dropship, I get that by shoving everything onto dropships you can avoid the bottleneck that is the art department, but this trend is lending less and less credence to the idea that dropships should be the transport aircrafts. If your going to make dropships the do all vehicle... He'll I can't even finish that thought, the introduction of assualt dropships and the stats change of the logi DS show how you can balance dropships into proper tiers, this works perfectly fine in balance to one another, it doesn't work however when you compare them to the weaponry that's out there right now.
As it stands dropships stand up perfectly fine to light AV fire, as a medium vehicle light AV is something to be wary off and to respect, but it won't overpower you unless combined with another form of AV fire. This is how it's supposed to work, and it's fine. Heavy AV is built to take on heavy vehicles and to demolish light vehicles and be a huge threat to medium vehicles, again the things are balanced relatively well, far from where it should be, but untill you get to advanced and proto levels it's a fair enough DPS.
The problem is we only have a medium aircraft available, a light aircraft should be manuavetable enough to avoid heavy AV fire but weak enough that huge damage should be inflicted if a hit is landed, and light AV should offer the best chances to hit them. A heavy aircraft (such as the RDV's) should have the ability to take multiple heavy hits, but with reduced manuoverablity as a cost, this would mean that while all AV could hit it heavy AV would be the best option for taking it down quickly.
Medium aircraft should sit in the middle of this, tank enough that they can stand up to some light AV fire but manoeuvrable enough that it has a chance to avoid heavy AV fire. It's that last bit that's the problem, back in chrome before they needed the handling you had a good hance if you flew well to avoid forge gun fire, and with the chassis mods you could make an extremly untanky but very fast dropship that was a ***** to hit. I'm not saying that it should be taken that far but at the very least handling should shift some way back towards pre uprising days, currently everything bit the ADS flies like such a brick that you might as well be sitting still as far as those shooting at you are concerned.
Now after a slight ramble back to my main point.
Dropships are being turned into the be all aircraft, and considering how crap they are right now there's just no point, and if by some miracle the bomber dropship turns out not to be a POS you can bet those on the ground will QQ about it. Honestly this is something I've actually noticed, the only time I can begin to talk objectively and not just rage post about dropships is when I'm taking a break from flying, things are just so bad overall the only time I can feel like I can post objectively and get some good ideas out is when I'm not flying, if that doesn't show that something is wrong, wait I'm not even going to bother finishing that sentence, we know something OS wrong, we have told you something is wrong repeatedly, we have even pointed out what the main sticking points are and offered ideas to help fix it, and part from one or two posts (being literal here) we have gotten very little feedback apart from the usual range of promises, the same ones we've been recording from months. We don't need much, just a post or so everynow and then, maybe even an idea or two you guys are bouncing around. We don't need dev blogs or huge posts (though those are nice) we just need to see that you guys are about and listening to the community.

Sorry about the above post, just had stuff that I needed to get off my chest that I didn't know I had, it was also way longer than I expected it to be, and rambled onto things that don't really apply to the current topic. And I also apologise for the Walls of texts, the fact that I'm typing on my iPod mean editing it is a ***** I just can't be bothered to deal with. |
