Hopefully.
I don't know what happened to the development of Dust 514 since 2011, Hilmar must have been sad last summer when he looked at the closed beta which was a zillion steps away from that trailer rip Hilmar
Full release in the spring of 2012 ..... lolSONY you were so wrong |

2 - The reason the trailer looks better because thats what the game looks like on CCP's Carbon Engine.
3 - The PS3 melts from overheating if it tries to use the Carbon Engine.
4 - Instead of holding the game off until a next gen console comes out that can support the Carbon engine (PS4), they released the game on PS3 for us to beta test using the only thing available to them, the 10 year old Unreal Engine 3 ( an engine they have never used before)
5 - With it being an engine they have never used before, they have to learn how to use it, while also coding development for it. (hence the slow progress thats being made in development)
6 - When Dust 514 comes out using the originally intended engine that can provide the pretty graphics and awesome **** the trailer shows, they will have YEARS of testing data already acquired and ready to use!
Now you know,
and knowing is half the battle!

To your 2nd (1st) comment, most trailers that arnt game play, usually either a matinee or a 3d render. ie a movie.
As for Carbon Engine "melts " PS3's is a rather bold statement. As a matter of fact, poor coding can do the same thing. Also a blanket covering my rig can do the same thing.
As for the Unreal Engine 3 being 10 years old, Gears of War 1 was released about 2008. First commercial game to use it, if I am correct.
The build of Unreal we are using today is closer to Gears 2 / Unreal Tounrment. Based on what I was told about DropShips handling closer to UT3 vehicles.
My thoughts. Nothing person |

Most games now showcase the in game footage, if you havn't noticed. Also, considering dust has no movie sequences...it would be pretty silly to think its a movie squence, especially after watching it.
CCP themselves stated that the PS3 could not handle the Carbone engine, and thats why they arent using it. (ill dig around for the source sometime here soon)
Gears of war was showcased in 2005 to demonstrate their new unreal engine 3, then was released in 2006. while still not 10 years....7 years is enough for you to get my point on it being a very old engine.
Don't really know how to respond to what the current build looks like, since i mentioned nothing about that, and both games are graphically inferior by todays standards, so its seemingly moot point.
The only thing i can take personally is your lack of information. |

Graphics? They look better right now.
And we have (or had) the map with the skyfire; CCP just won't let us fight there for some reason. It used to be that you could see it waaaaaaay north of line harvest- on the horizon and on the map. Can't even find it on the map now |

I never played this under its first build while under Carbon.
As an old modder for the Unreal Engine, this one is still kicking and quite well.
Going back to Carbon, my personal thought being that this is their first time with a console, and their engine was meant for PC, (being that Eve is) , Using that for an FPS, might have been a bad move.
As for a Matinee sequence, still my personal belief. Doesn't mean much, but I doubt any human control was in that. Minimal, using a"Matinee sequence ( using the game engine to control pawns for a Omarion or scripted scenes).
As for the 2005 debut, it was on an engine that was still getting the rest of its middle ware in order and graphics. ( I think losing OpenGl from legacy)
Either or, the game in those trailers seem more of a match then what we are presently receving. I still hold out on this, due to what Eve once was, to where it is now. |

A year ago it was assumed a new generation console was coming out in the near future by damn nearly everyone, since we were WAY overdue for a next gen leap. Not to mention Dust wouldn't be a 2013 release anyways, so i don't really see your point. |

No because sony themselves said about a year ago that they weren't planning to release the Ps4 for a couple of more years saying the ps3 still had life. Also the lifecycle of Sonys systems are 7 years and the ps3 was released in 2006 so actually the ps4 wasn't overdue but right on time. |

Oh no they didn't use it for closed beta only alpha testing. They changed to UE3 before anyone outside of CCP got a hold of it. |

Personal thought, most DEVs complain over the complexity of the PS3, wonder what CCP has to say about it?
As for PS4, with t being a CISC not RISC proc, might be more familiar to them. I wonde with all the Uscript if any of that code would be salvageable/ usable if they go for UE4 |

To port from ps3 to ps4 will be VERY hard and time consuming because of the differences. It will take them at least 2 years to fully port it over. |
