So i was addressing NF's current state of PC in this thread and got off onto a tangent
https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=962055#post962055
I realized that aside from the Timer mechanics one of the biggest issue right now is generating ISK for PC.
Direct ISK transfer is half the solution to this, the other is direct ITEM transfer.
Once we have these 2 things players can start liquidating their Loot for ISK without introducing a second ISK faucet since the ISK isn't being created but transferred.
The question becomes is the current loot table numbers enough? Too much and the market value of loot tanks, too little and it may be too pricey to compete with the NPC market (with exception to officer gear). This would have an immediate impact on PC loot that isn't shared in the corp hanger or the corpmates simply don't want and have hopefully an instant impact on Pub play as loot now becomes a secondary revenue source.
So if True Grit is reading this: please get ITEM transfer in Soon no Gäó
What is everyone thoughts on this, I remember a post very long ago about someone wanting to create this very service and utilize the storefront as a way of also generating loans for its "members"

Item transferring, or trading, is something we have been thinking about. Actually worked on a bit of the design for it awhile ago. We have other priorities right now, True Grit is working on roles, iterating on the star map (vacations soon mean just going for low hanging fruit), matchmaking, how you join a battle, iterating on planetary conquest so that it is more profitable and you can get fights quicker. |

That doesn't mean we are not working or releasing rapid fire updates. Actually the rapid fire updates are awesome and mean during the summer vacation time in Iceland we can nail lots of smaller things and push them out without having to wait for the next big release. Should be a fun summer! :D I don't go anywhere until the end of August, so you all get to put up with me until then. |

The fact that item trading is still not in the game is a huge issue for me. I am quite frankly amazed that it hasn't shown up yet.
I remember back in January or February I asked about if there was anything more important than that and the response from a Dev was that it was being worked on, or on the roadmap. That was at least five months ago, so I wonder what changed.
Giving out useless loot to players is a constant reminder that this game is still a long way from being a real MMO.

Actually, I don't know why the thread was locked, but here is a reply from Eterne in February where he says it is definitely coming(post #8)
https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=59956
Followed up by Eterne promising to be better with getting information out(post #11)
I love the circular nature of this place.
Going back and reading a post from back then making the same promises currently being flung about to calm the rioting fanbase is very discouraging. Although it does make me glad that I haven't wasted any more money on this.

1 - I'm unclear why this very fundamental part of an mmo, particularly one related to eve is so low on the list that you are still designing it at this late date.
2 - I don't support buffing PC rewards in the current design with it's passive ISK generation and very tedious timer based gameplay.
I think you are just handing out candy for putting up with bad mechanics.

These are nice and all but I'm pretty sure that having item trading is VERY important for an "MMO". |

This would reward fighting and destruction and not more passive farming.

CCP is mindnumbingly bad.
I don't blame either Eterne or Nullarbor/Foxfour for this.

"Simple player to player trading" will do.
The full-fledged market can wait until after core gameplay. But simple trading is a must. |

One problem I imagine may be difficult with designing a trading system:
Lets say that we get salvage based on a percentage of what we destroy. Now if there are officer weapons or rare salvage items out there, and they aren't listed on the market, but must be traded, how does the game see their value in relation to the 'destroyed' aspect?
There was a broken mechanic in Eve where people raised the market value of a low trade volume good, which then raised the game's understanding of its average trade price. Players were then rewarded like 100x more than what they should have been because the game thought that something which was really relatively worthless was actually expensive thereby thinking that a lot was destroyed. |

So in other words your using the summer as a time to nail out a lot of other small/back end things that can be added without a major release? I mean..... how does it work exactly? Is the shanghai team working on the next major build while the Icelandic teams work on the fine detailed things? I believe the better the community understands the Developer process, the less will cry about time related things like "why are we having crappy 1 month updates?"
Developer process meaning: How the Developers and their respective teams work together and function.
Do you guys have like.... timelines/ quotas that you all have to reach? or is it just..... add to the game as you go? |
