I always joke and laugh at the people who wear proto suits in instant battles. I had assumed for the longest time that it was because they had low self esteem or they couldn't get over a 1.0 K/D without them. But it seems like a lot of people are doing it more and more and I'm just curious as to why.
It seems like it would be such a waste of money to use your shiny gear in a battle that means nothing. I still to this day just wear militia gear to save money for when it matters. So tell me, why do you do it? |

I try to run adv gear but get annoyed after a while when I see I'm getting killed by all proto users and switch to my proto gear wasting isk that I had no intentions of wasting. |

Because a good number of people that run constant proto gear can afford it. If you're fairly good at the game, it's not difficult to pull a profit even when running prototype gear. |

It's a colossal waste of money.
If you die, and bleed out. Get a logi. Explain to him that the injector isn't broken... it's just mostly broken. I however, either go even or make a few I$K in my proto.
Now, when I hit my cap, and the only incentive to play more on this character is for I$K... I'll farm it in milita, or advanced. Until then, if I can cut the time to cap down by a few games for some I$K, it's kinda silly not to, huh?

Meh, people earned they're Protosuits, they can wear'em to do laundry for all I care. It's their perogative if they want to risk the potential ISK loss if someone like me manages to take them out with nothing but Militia gear. Even if I go 1-20 against the Proto in the process, it's nice to know that my one kill cost them a bunch of ISK, whereas my 20 deaths cost me nothing.
I've got news for you, though: it's only a game, and it's not real money. Instant Battle, PC, or whatever, NONE of it actually matters. |

The loss of one suit is certainly less than what one makes in a battle. Just throwing that out there.

This is the way I feel, I earned my gear I will wear it if I want. For those that can't deal with it, call in a LAV and run me over. Every thing has a counter. For some of you out there that don't know If you hit me (proto caldari logi) with a flux grenade even a STD level one I'm toast damn near. |

True, but that loss still cuts into their net profit for the battle, and might even be the one that puts them into the red (assuming they die more than once). |

This is a perspective that really isn't true. I run proto 100% of the time and I pull a hefty profit 9 out of 10 battles. You say my one death really hurts me, but if I go 20-1 and am top of my leaderboards, I am going to still walk away with 200K ISK in profit, usually more if I am facing gear that is ADV+. Hell, my rig needs usually 4 deaths before I'm in the red. If I'm facing Team Militia, that's a 1 in 1000 matches.
Too many people DON'T use any gear. It is painful to see how many people are constantly running militia gear. The difference between militia and just standard is incredible, much less having to deal with advanced or prototype gear. To choose to ignore that for the sake of a few thousand ISK, a currency whose only worth is to BUY GEAR, is mind-blowing.
You say that none of it actually matters... Then why not burn through your isk? Why save it? It has no purpose in Dust save for buying gear to use. |

I'll save a percentage of my ISK earnings into proto-gear until I hit the Cap per week. Makes the remaining couple days of the week a little less boring. As far as the OUTRAGEOUS cost of a 80-100k suit, who cares when you have Millions worth of gear that you'll just replace in a week? Ahh, the grind that is Dust514, I love it. That is all. Eriknaught out. END TRANSMISSION. |

I never said it "really hurts you", only that it gives me some small comfort, in a situation similar to the one I described, knowing that one death cost you some of your ISK, while my 20 deaths in Militia gear cost me nothing. Even if you still show an overall profit at the end of the battle, it can be nice to know that that profit is just a little smaller than it would have been.
Sometimes it can make a loss to a Proto an easier pill to swallow.
Play however you want, I don't care. It's a game. It's meant to be enjoyed. If you want to use nothing but Proto suits, good for you, go for it.
It's not a real war, it's not real money. At the end of the day, none of it matters. I doubt anyone's real life would be seriously impacted in any significant way if we woke up tomorrow and Dust was gone (except maybe CCP employees, of course).
Real life's too short to waste worrying about imaginary video game money. |
