Dust is gonna make it, Its gonna be one of those games that everyone will be talking about and playing. But the question is when? Dust is special, there arent a lot of games where u care. I like to fly helis in bf3 but when i die i just spawn back and fell like nothing happend and wait for the chooper agian. However because dust is awesome game it's gonna have hard time. I came from socom (the ones on the ps2) those games were awesome, now where are at? thats right u guessed it, there dead cuz of games like cod. CCP is gonna take there sweet little time to get it right even though they might fu ck up over and over, thats just part of life. However CCP really needs to make sure they get things right. Just cuz EvE lasted 10 years does not mean Dust might, dust is a shooter game and most fps players want the next new thing. Postive community + Postive Devs = great game. Plz CCP dont let this game die. CCP opened a door, plz dont close it but instead make it wider so that everyone can get through (new players). |

What looked like a forum rebeliion was actually quelled by the forum itself.
The community self regulates. I think CEOpyrex (or whaever sorry if I got the name wrong) had a lot to do with it. A voice of reason in what was about to be a rabble.
That and a dev blog.
I think the fact E3 was dissapppointing for people. Hardly any information was given. An apparently lack of comms from CCP doesn't help either, coupled with the fact while the core of the game is good and getting better the game still feels unfinished. You can't even label upcoming releases as expansions, you need a finished game to expand on it. |

I find your argument to be invalid. You use too much logic in your posts by acknowledging that the game has flaws that need to be fixed but still trying to support it in a sensible way. You my friend have earned yourself a like. Dust can succeed if they fix the issues currently at hand. IF CCP does that, then quite possibly lots of us would return. I know I would, because I like the idea of Dust. They need to hurry though, because like you said, FPS players are always looking for the next big thing. |

I'm sorry, but this just isn't going to happen. Ccp got EXTREMELY lucky with EVE. they were trying to get people to play what really amounts to an online spreadsheet. the fact that people were patient enough to allow EVE to flourish is absolutely mind boggling.
People like that do not exist on console. And if they do, they are few and far between.
Dust is going to die, and i'll tell you exactly how.
The first major hit to dust will be GTA V. that game is expected to be the best game of this generation, Whether that's true or not, pretty much everyone who plays video games is going to buy it.
After that, if people still actually play dust, the ps4 will cut the population down even further. a lot of people are tired of the current console generation, and an upgrade is needed as far as some are concerned. I, for one, am trading in y ps3 the day it comes out.
What will be left over is a few hundred xiehard fans of CCP, probably less than the amount of current MAG players, and that will slowly start to wear down, until eventually the game joins SOCOM in the entertainment graveyard.
The sad thing about it is the next tine someone wants to do something similar to dust, their boss will just show them an article about how dust took eve down with it and say "is that what you want to happen to you?"
And don't even try to convince yourself that the whole "your actions matter" thing appeals to anyone that isn't already here or playing EVE. Besides, that hasn't even been properly implemented. I've fought at least a thousand instant battles, and not one of them has impacted eve in any way. And PC is worthless; people are actually TRYING to lose districts because its such a chore to maintain them. |

I am not a blind fanboy, and I hope the rest of you aren't because it's bad to the industry having fanboys that defend inferior products. |

Wow "fanboy." it's like we are playing games with words. Back when dust was in beta "people who liked dust" im not gonna say fanboy, they kept on saying "it's in beta, its gonna be better when the full game hit." And now the haters use "fanboys" to anyone who like and believe the game is gonna succede? Ok thats your opinion then. But im not a fanboy at all, i hate for what ccp did with uprising, but at the same time there was a lot of good things that came out of it. Anyways who doesnt make mistakes? I hate to say this but "give them time" they are new to the fps thing. They are a small company compared to dice. I know i will not be playing dust everday ones bf4 comes out but, ccp can do this. "they got lucky on EvE." So what if they got lucky they got through it and now have experince in it. Socom died cuz of COD! The developers tried to make "everyone happy" but the "fanboys" of socom just didn't have socom they had 3rd person view of cod. CCP said this before "There game is not for everyone." |

I honestly couldn't care less how new they are to the fps genre. if you were just learning how to speak english, would try to write the longest novel in the world? No. You would start off with your ABCs and slowly work up from there.
What CCP should have done was taken the time to actually learn how to make an FPS instead of going straight into the development of something that even the best devs in the world couldn't dream of.. Many of the conventions in modern shooters are in place to solve problems that would occur without them. Instead, they decided that since they basically improvised with EVE, they would be able to do the same thing with dust. Its like trying to shoot the moon with a paintball gun. There is such a thing as too much ambition.
And by the way, CCP did the exact same thing that zipper did with SOCOM. Back in replication, they had a nicer rock paper scissors element going on with the suits, and prototype gear was worth the investment. But no. There were too many complaints about how ARs weren't gods like they are in CoD. (By the way, Black Ops 2 moved away from the one best weapon model. now the only thing that dictates how well you do with a particular weapon is your playstyle. And lag.) Even though about 75% of the forums were about bad controls, they listened to the "i got killed by this thingy so its OP" forums. Why? because its easier to nerf something than improve core mechanics.
PS: Zipper went out of business for the same thing CCP has been doing since beta. why does CCP deserve better than Zipper? |

Well i do agree with you that CCP should've worked on their fps mecanic before they made the game. Even back in 2009 when they showed it off, the graphics (for their engine) was awesome and vehicle handling looked awesome but the player animation/shooting mecanic were crappy. And now compare what we have today to what they had back then you will see a big difference. Yea, yea new games will come out like gta and everyone will run torward it. However it wont deliever the same experince as dust. |

eh this is wrong, last of us imo is likely the best game of this generation, it's multi-player is amazing to, and our pop is barely dented.
the ps4 WILL cause a loss of players, but imo it's only a matter of time before they port to the ps4, they can't honestly plan to have a 10 year plan on a dead system, they will either need to port to pc or port to ps4 one or the other is inevitable, I for one have no intention to sell my ps3 as ps4 is not backwards compatible and don't plan to throw my games away like a tool
I also don't plan to buy it right away, as every console first release is usually ridden with bugs and red ring of deaths, besides why buy a console the day it comes out and have no library to play it with, no used games to buy games cheaper, I personally don't prefer a shiny brick sitting in my living room.
the population will likely drop to about 3500-4000 once the ps4 hits, and that should keep the game stable while it is ported.
the rest of your argument is pointless once you acknowledge dust being ported to something else, either pc or ps4. |

CCP created a bulding (a really tall building) and put all of the goodies at the very top, but what they forgot was to design an elevator so now they have to walk up the stairs all the way. Some don't want to wait for ccp to make it to the top but others like you and I are definetly gonna wait and enjoy the goodies when ccp make it on top of the building. Hopefully the rapid updates they are doing soon is gonna help us get there sonner, but the only major thing that ccp really needs right now is a better way to communicate with their players. |
