Swarms of hundreds of drones attacking one team or acting as a third party target for both teams. Drones offer no ISK significance, only WP/SP and maybe salvage drops - to keep the economy on the level. Racial infantry squads in red. Collective on-field dropsuit Meta Level is the standard by which opponents are determined. Infiltrating waves of AI HAVs, etc.

I think it should be based on gear. So, lets say your squad is mostly all proto. Then the drones will have "proto status" or hard difficulty. |

At the risk of scaring some folks I think they could borrow from Eve for some PvE ideas.
If you had to earn the right to tackle harder missions you'd be able to have people segregate themselves simply through completing lower level PvE "missions" to qualify for higher level ones. I'm guessing that if you did not squad up and did not work together then the E would kick the P teams butt -- so part of getting through the missions might depend on who you ended up online with.
I still think some other E issues could just be built right in. They could give us the option of using a slot for a nanite based rare element extraction system -- pulling planet specific materials out slowly during the course of the battle. Of course, we'd need markets, and maybe manufacturing, and so on all the way back to the core game play fixes that are apparently the current order of business.
So, no, I'm not suggesting we stop focusing on current issues... |

The pve aspect of a mmofps is a must have. Without it there really is nothing for new players to grind before heading to the battlefield. |

Ooh! Also mining. Do the same theorycrafting with mining. Should it be someting that's automated by districts, or, as an extension of EvEO, would you like to actually do the mining yourself (and put the laser rifle to use finally)?

I suppose that's often a function of those modes being separate single and multiplayer modes of course. I've seen many a game that got PVE right, but failed miserably when it came to PVP and vise versa. In the majority of those games, there wasn't such a high level of risk vs reward that New Eden has so I hope that it's one team doing both PVE and PVP or both teams are actively sharing ideas. The last thing we need is a game mechanic that's acceptable in PVE being OP in PVP. |

It isn't an if, just a when.
There are already two modes planned. One is a PC mode where the SI installations get invaded by drones. The other is a general mode that's a coop last man standing variation that sounds similar to Halo's (Reach) firefight mode. I'm personally excited about the latter. |

I liked the PvE in Mass Effect 3, it was very solid and entertaining co-op messing around with various abilities, combos, etc. That was the only good part of Mass Effect 3.
I think of the separate teams thing sometimes because I know the team that did the multiplayer in ME3 was separate from the single player team. It showed too. The Multiplayer team was responsive to balance issues, in close contact with the community, and generally enthusiastic about constantly tweaking balance and releasing new content. There were balanced updates... weekly or some such. Considering it was just a "mode" for what was mostly a single-player franchise, it was great that they had such keen attention to weapon balance and other issues.
Of course, the squads in ME3 are much smaller than the possible squads in Dust. It makes me wonder if initial PvE might be better suited to 6 person squads initially, just for balancing and testing. Horde modes typically don't have horde vs. 16-player teams after all. |

I remember reading that. Unfortunately, five-year future is very.... broad. The entire Mass Effect series released within less than five years (ME1 = Nov 07, ME3 = Mar 12). |

I should of come to this thread first lol. They honestly just need to get PVE in. At this point I would take squad size PVE. Given the current limitations it would allow for more drones anyway, but would hopefully allow quicker implementation. Could even throw together some tight ship/corridor style maps. We don't need fancy, we just need something else to do.
