It seems like more and more children are flocking to Dust 514 aged 13 and under. I do know that Dust 514 is rated mature. My only small concern is that the in-game text and even the mic does not filter the profanity like the forum here. I personally don't think children should play FPS games at all, especially Dust. It's just my thought. How do some of you feel about this? |

Well, it's true that it is the parents' responsibility. But do half of the parents know what the children are playing nowadays? Some of the PS3 consoles are in their rooms and parents don't really pay attention to what they download. Usually buying games had to be approved from the parents so they see what's on the case. But since Dust 514 is free, it's easy to download. |

I can understand that voice communication is inevitable, but CCP can still improve it a bit to filter out some of the contents for the kids such as language and blood. Such as age filtering for matchmaking to group them together so some of the adults don't stuff ideas in some of the younger ones. Just my thought. I wouldn't want kids to treat Dust 514 like a playground since more are coming out of COD. I would rather give my kids squirting water toy guns than have them exposed to online games until they're old enough. |

Zeylon Rho wrote:The game has an age restriction mechanic already, and it's sort of bizarre how far it goes. Actually, that may be an overstatement considering the racist, misogynist , and explicit names and language that permeates corp names, players names, and so on. Allow me to remind you (courtesy of Wang): Quote:Dear players, As many of you are aware the Uprising build for DUST 514 is about to be deployed. As part of our compliance requirement with Sony we are introducing a new feature that will limit chat functions to minors. If you are under the age requirement set by the gameGÇÖs rating in your region (16+ in EU regions for example) and have chat restriction settings on, then you will be unable to use the following in-game features:
Text/voice chat Create/join player corporations Social related functions such as: Email Contact list Leader board In addition, in game entities such as player character and corporation names, station location names (EVE players) and EVE player names performing orbital strikes will appear with a default name instead. To remove the above restrictions will require a minorGÇÖs parent/legal guardian to set the chat restriction to OFF. We at CCP Games are dedicated to creating a safe gaming environment for our players. Please contact our support staff at [email protected] if you have questions regarding this new feature. Thank you. DUST 514 Development Team Kinda wild I thought.
I'm glad they did this, but I think they need to do a little more better to enforce it rather than an "how old are you?" box. |

EDIT: Should we take the bad words and violence from R-rated movies because some kids snuck in? should we completely censor what people are allowed to say in society because you're scared children might hear something?
Unfortunately, yes. I don't mean that freedom of speech should be taken away, but to improve what we say around others, especially with children. If you had a kid and I was cussing heavily near her, how would you feel? You would not like it, of course. The same goes if she was hiding and I didn't see her anywhere when I'm cussing. Bad for business. Bad for children. Bad for you. I'm no saint, though. But I try. |

Stupid Blueberry wrote:I got on right before downtime this morning and joined a squad of squeakers in academy (I'm make alts for academy to help new players, promise ) trying to show them how to play basically, the best I could do was teach them how to place a defend order, they spent the whole of their time crashing vipers and complaining about how long it takes to kill people lol
This is good. I think more people should help out the children in the academy, but I wish we could help them improve their etiquette too, though I know this is nearly impossible. There should be an established etiquette code or something for Dust 514 for the children. Blame it on the parents and Disney shows, huh.
