My understanding is that its there so you will always have a place to spawn without getting your ass shot up, not so you can sit were no one can get you and snipe or do nothing and gain SP. Just my opinion, no offense to any redline snipers, its your game do what you want.
Killing mercs on MCC, or adding friendly fire will not make people stop AFKing, you seem to think the redline and MCC are the problem here, when really people AFK everywhere, putting penalties on the MCC/ Redline wil do nothing, AFK-ing is a problem even on Ambush maps as simply by hiding in some corner works. (Since most of the fighting ends up oin one area anyways, no one bothers to look for "strays.")
The MCC/ Redline isn't the problem, and most "solutions" people keep thinking of would just inconvenience active players more than it would AFKers. If you have to bother active players to merely give a small inconvenience to AFKers, its not worth the hassle.
Severance Pay wrote:The game needs to kick people that are inactive Wrong as well, as this can be avoided extremely easily with a rubber band on the controller, or heck, just set something on the analogue stick so the character will keep spinning.
Once again, its something that would ultimately just end up bothering actual players more than AFKers.
To everyone who is thinking on how to "fix" this situation, when coming up with a "solution," you can't just think "how do I get rid of AFK-ing?" as that would alone would be extremely simple, but more than likely too inconvenient to everyone else and not worth it, you have to think "How do I get rid of AFK-ing without bothering the rest of the players?" What's the point of the getting rid of AFKers if whatever they do just ruins it for those who don't as well?
Cosgar wrote:Make the game fun and people wont want to AFK Definitelly on the right track, but not quite. The game can be the most fun game in the world, but as long as it has a way to reward those who do nothing, as long as there's no actual motive to be actively playing rather than just AFK, people are going to keep AFK-ing, be it for whatever reason it may be.
Its more about discouraging people from AFKing and encouraging them to play instead, making AFK not worth it in comparison. You know, instead of thinking: "Well I could play, but why if I can just AFK and gain about the same benefits as if I played." Make them think: "Well I COULD AFK, but why when its a lot more rewarding to play!"
You get what I'm saying?
Problem being, with the game mechanics as they are now, it would be really difficult to come up with a viable solution that wouldn't harm the game too much, which i probably why CCP hasn't done anything about it, because they can't, or rather, they don't know how to either.
Well...that's for the AFK problem at least, MCC sniping IS their fault, be it a glitch or not, the ability to shoot in and out of the MCC is something they dropped the ball on, but will probably be fixed in the upcoming update. |

Fox Gaden wrote: The idea of only giving the extra passive Skill points when outside of the Red Zone has only a slight impact on normal players. If a team gets red lined, then they should be switching to Drop Uplink fits and trying to sneak out of the red zone, rather than just giving up.
AFKers may be a problem everywhere, but at least outside the Red zone there is a chance the enemy will find them and kill them. Then if they donGÇÖt spawn again they will be kicked from the match.
Saying a team " should just "x" when getting red-lined is easier said than done, plus even if successful in sneaking out, still doesn't mean they won't get pushed right back soon after.
Also again, the Red-Zone is not the problem, people think that's only where they AFK because that's where you see most, plenty often there's AFKers in the middle of the field, posing as snipers, going to rooftops in some Militia Dropship or just hiding in some place people rarely go to, you'd be surprised the amount of places one can hide at.
Besides, you realize AFKers getting killed does more harm to the team than to them, right? The team would be losing clones a lot faster, while the AFKers are more than likely in militia fits, so they don't lose anything.
"Then if they donGÇÖt spawn again they will be kicked from the match" So...they just have to spawn again and walk outside the Redzone.
Its not like spawning is something complicated, and they probably have the game on the background while they do something else nearby, so all you're preventing is people leaving the AFK char unchecked, and that's just MAYBE, depends on the map.
And again, even if slightly, you're still inconveniencing actual players more for something that would barely affect AFKers.

It won't solve the AFK issue, but it will make people have to leave the MCC in order to shoot things outside.
Thumbs up. This is probably the most realistic and simplest fix. Ahhh, but the gas would be so funny, or knowing that some heavy would be willing to be the team killing MCC punisher for the rest of the match to keep everyone moving.
This is how it used to be before, current shooting in-out of MCC is more than likely a glitch, will probably be back to that next update.
semperfi1999 wrote:Honestly the only way to truly change it is to switch how SP is earned. If you got 5 SP for every WP and 1 SP per second then there would be no point to AFKing anymore and the 1 SP per second would still give new players a small amount of SP....it will also teach players to go for WPs to get their SP.
Edit: But I forgot this is too hardcore for the "hardcore" player base of New Eden. They need passive SP gain earned from time in game to make them feel 1337
Now you're just making it worse for new players, and rewarding Proto-stomping. All you're doing is encouraging new players to AFK while dropping Uplinks and Nanohives...or just not ant to play.
Again, people you have to think of how it would affect all classes and all players, newbies and vets alike.
Also, I think someone suggested a timer on the red-zone that would kick/ kill players if they stayed too long? So when they push back a team to the red-zone, then what, kick players that can't get out in time or are trying to push back the reds? May as well not even try then and leave the match, which if it happens mid-late match is going to discourage a lot of people, as that means they're forfeiting any potential rewards they could have gotten, plus making anything lost during the match lost in vain. |
