I quit flying the damn things ever since they changed the controls back in codex. CCP Blam insist that dropships are his favorite vehicle but I feel that is a sarcastic remark but I have no proof of it.
I will fly an assault dropship because of the controls alone but even at 10 million spread out I can't focus on getting higher tier stuff yet.
Remaining Core Skills to train:
Vehicle Shield Upgrades (4/5)
Vehicle Armor Upgrades (4/5)
Vehicle Electronics (1/5)
Vehicle Engineering (1/5)
After capping these out then I can start focusing on getting specializations done. |

Other than how the front turret is handled with that readjusting camera (and the gunner-turret bugs CCP happily ignores) I think the controls are pretty much perfect. IMO the only thing that's not screwed up about DS.
They uninstalled the flight control computer from the damn things back in codex. Then for the longest time a 1 mph landing would kill you. So I stopped being able to use the dropship to drop $%^# or pick up people. Sure you can barrel roll back flip and the sorts but you couldn't fly underneath any of the warehouses anymore without blowing up and in the end none of the fancier moves saved you from a forge gun hit (after they unnerfed the forge gun range to that of less of an AR)
Essentially precision controls which is what made the original dropship fun for me was entirely removed in favor of over extended and lagged controls. Dropship at full speed takes way too long to stop or alter crose to avoid an obstacle. For example I can try to stop in mid air or adjust flight path to try to avoid an object not yet drawn yet and still slam into it because the controls are that unresponsive.
Also my own gunners get me killed more than anything these days, its bad enough I have to fight the ship its worse I have to fight them shooting me and it causes weirder flight conditions. . |

In essence in one change of controls I went from being 'the dropship pilot' to nobody.

well I saw you as the HMG guy waiting for me at the top of the ladder guy 
I am an omni soldier, I specialize in being able to use any/everything as needed. Sometimes I just train myself by picking a platform for a week and going with it, other times experimenting with various fits. I certainly need to finish my vehicle core skill set so I can start raising specialist skills to allow myself access to logi, assault, sentinel, scout, and commando suits and all the dropships and special LAVs/HAvs. |

I got infantry core maxed out already (Core, Shield, Engineering, Armor, Electronics). Core skills affect everything regardless of what race you pick or specialization. So it is critical for an omni to max those out first. |
