Give them a 25-35% HP buff. Make the front and the bottom of the ship 50% damage resistant. Make the top and back -50% damage resistant. Make the sides 15% damage resistant.
If I would ever have to design a dropship IRL, I would give them more protection where they're most likely to be targeted, the bottom and the front. Then a bit more on the sides. Forget about the top and the back. |

I wouldn`t add the HP buff but have no issue with trying the resistance changes. also add WP for team actions so we can be going up in our gains |

for the starter base HP I would leave it to the ADV and PRO DSes to increase but everything else you said I would have no problem to test out when they release it (if they do). |

I like this idea. adds a cool "embrace for attack" element to drop ships.
Instead of the resistances always being there, perhaps hitting a button to reveal armor plates, and close up the side hatches would be cool.
This would make it so gunners can't fire as a penalty for bracing for impact.
Just a thought. But in reality, the natural resists are more feasible . |

Return the PG that was nerfed on all vehicles, make standard dropships more maneuverable, give FGs a damage falloff at max range, and dumb down turret AI so they can't snipe them from an opposing redline. Problem solved. |

I say alter the angle of the side turrets so that in an ADS you could more easily aim all 3 turrets at a single target. I would have less of an issue being a flying piece of wet toilet paper if I had the DPS to balance it out.
Referencing this post https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=892959#post892959
ex: An accelerated missile turret with max skills (turrets and ADS) could achieve a DPS of 355 or a single shot damage of 575.6. FIgure I can squeeze a 10% damage mod on there you now have a DPS of 390.5 and a single shot of 633.1, by itself this is still a relatively low number to deal with a decently fit tank (at least 30 seconds sustained fire for most) while being able to be killed in 4 by a proto forge gunner. However, if I were able to train my front turret and my side turrets on a single target suddenly it goes from 30 seconds to 10.
I say give the side gunners the ability to rotate their seat out and down, it would give an excellent ability to have all 3 guns on one target with a trade off of being more exposed (for the side gunners). |

It doesn't actually address any of the problems plaguing dropships but a system that can be activated by pilots and passengers alike that calculates and displays the arc disembarking passengers would take on their way to the ground would be good. Accomodates more precise slingshotting of troops.
Having a control mappable to just signalling your passengers in conjunction with that would also be useful. Gives visual and audio cue, works in three stages. First is 'approaching dropzone', second for signalling that you're almost there, third is 'Drop! Drop! Drop!'. |

At their current state they can't actually get to the point needed without going boom with the entire squad inside. Going with LAV's is just faster and safer. |

Try actually flying one and get to where you need with an entire squad. Tell me how well it works for ya. |

Dropships are fine atm. It's the map sizes that force you to play within range of a rail / forge the entire time.
I'll link the thread I made on this topic later. Posting from my phone. |

Very true but helicopters are used for many other roles too. Just because the base idea was a troop transport why does it have to be limited to that? If you skill into Gallente medium frame suits you can skill into assault or logistics variants with many more to come one day. Saying a dropship should only be a troop transport is like saying medium frame suits should all be logis just because. |

Then CCP.....ahem the dev team in charge of this game should reward dropship pilots with war points on every merc that ejects from there dropship and makes a successful landing
Drop ship pilots could hover over the battle field acting as a mobile spawn point
Then thats where the fighters will come in to play to counter this
the universe is now in complete balance and harmony once again..... |

Kitten Empress wrote:McFurious wrote:Give them some kind of flares/counter-measures. Forge guns and rail guns still kill it faster than you can blink. Would stealth systems be off the cards? The ability to cloak for 15 seconds with a minute cooldown could go a long way. RDVs have it, there've been a few non-commital whisperings of scout suits getting potential access to 'em sometime in the distant future, dropships getting them doesn't seem too outlandish.
Thing is it'll almost certainly be a tax on fitting resources, making it less survivable out of cloak than other DSs without it. Dropships still need to be sturdy enough to make quick hotdrops in relative safety when they don't have cloaking modules though, their viability shouldn't be centred around them.
The ability to rapidly move a squad to an objective is of marginal importance at best and usually done more safely with LAVs. The real name of the game is the ability to kill the other guy or core-rep the guy who can while having DUs placed near the best positions for killing people from. That dropships can get DUs in otherwise unreachable places or speed a group to a silo in the opening moves of a round is usually the extent of their contribution.
Heart of the problem here is the game modes. They ain't strategic at all. The dropship and all that it brings to the table is going to thrive when there are focused objectives to base play around, until then it will languish even if it is brought up to par. Being made better at what it does won't remedy the fact that it doesn't have much of a role on the current battlefield.

Yes but the ASSAULT dropship is used as an attack vehicle, but I can be more effective from my free murder taxi
I need a buff just to stay in the air, or at least make the turrets less effective for anyone to play target practice with my ship |

pilots have been wanting WP for team actions that range from deployment - triage (triage is pretty cool looking, especially A2A!) but it will be a while.... HP wise resistance in the logical places as the author has stated is good but the HP buffs might be to far, I expect my ADV DS to be great and my PRO to be a behemoth that would take a lot to take down but for the STDs we have atm (....joke intended...) they can`t hold up well, CCP NEEDS to start bringing vehicles up to date because this STD stuff is nonsense. |

Feel free to draw some ideas discussed here. I've given up on it after Uprising came and dropships... well, you pilots know how it is. A price reduction. We create a thread like this, and we get price reduction and heavier maneuvering. |

what they need to do is to restore the missile turrets to what they were in replication (closed beta back with skirmish 1.0). The problem back then was that all AV was restricted to hewvies and nobody even bothered to take them down. Missile splash damage of about 800 over 10 meters. If dropships can be one shotted by forge gunners, they should be able to one shot forge gunners. |

yeah counter measures against swarm launchers, an alarm system against enemy forge guns, along with the hp buff should go nicely, but i seriously belive that dropships need to be much more nimble, and be able to avoid incoming fire. |

Caldari Dropships need a Shield Buff. Maybe 3% Shield Resists per level.
Gallente Dropships need a Speed Buff. 4% afterburner efficiency bonus? Or Just got for the Armour repper bonus.
Future Races:
Amarr Dropships use thier to patrol populations. So I guess a weapons buff for them.
And Minmatar should be the easiest to fly, perhaps using the old easier control system from E3 and before. |
