Skills like Vehicle Movement Modules (w/e it's called) only need to be @ Lvl 3 to get everything out of it. There is no Incentive to Lvl 5, thus creating an SP Sink Issue. Other Examples are HAV (No ADV/PRO), Vehicle Upgrades (I forget...but I think only Lvl 2 or 3 was needed for ALL?), & others I forget off the top of my head (PS3 Typing, no Computer). There is no Incentive (Lower Fittings, Efficacy, etc.) nor Reason (Unlocks/Prerequisite) to even have SP invested in it.
I believe an SP Refund should be implemented (Precedent = Dropsuit SP Refund) to all who invested SP into these Skills, & the Skill should be Locked past the Effective Level to prevent SP Waste due to an obvious Design Flaw/Fail (Remnants of Skill Investment shared between Dropsuit & Vehicle after the Segregation). This should be done ASAP to remedy some Issues until the Skills receive Relevant Incentive/Function worth skilling into. Spending SP should NEVER yield ZERO Result/Growth.
Lucky for me I have enough SP to spare (1.4 Mil Unallocated) regardless & have effectively taken a Hiatus (Temp Quit) due to how lackluster the Attention to Detail an MMO Company has (Market Browsing shows many FailCoding Examples). If CCP can't get MMO right.....how can we expect them to get FPS down??? See you all on Wednesdays Only..........Zzzzzzzzzzzzz |

Most of the skill tree is unfinished, and so is the in game assets. Maybe in a year or two they will implement some new stuff Maybe then those LV4 and above skills will actually be worth it.

Anyone who was dumb enough to skill something up before checking that that actually did anything deserves to have that SP taken away from them. Why on earth would you just automatically skill something to lvl 5 without checking it out first?
Besides, it's not broken; it's just not fully fleshed out yet. There will be more high level modules and vehicles that will require those higher level skills - they're just not there yet. |

TBH, just copy paste EVE skill tree; it was misinterpreted to begin with.
"You have to specialize" is a phrase I hear a lot, but it was actually originally just a piece of new player advice. This was also misinterpreted; we are locked into our choices (unlike EVE, where you build upon your choices to diversify your range of specializations). This piece of advice originated from the fact that there are only 5 levels for each skill in EVE, and as such a newbie can hit the veteran efficiency plateau faster by picking something specific, then you expand from there and branch into specializations that have some skills in common with what you've already trained. It was not meant to convey the message that "you pick one thing and that's all you ever do".
DUST fails at this; if you want to diversify, you often need to go all the way back down the skill tree and start from scratch.
Case example: In EVE: Small Autocannons and Artillery use the same source skill: Small Projectile Turret Operation. It's first at Tech 2 that you can 'specialize', and even then it's only one skill (e.g. Small Autocannon Specialization). Specialization here is as broad as "I'm good at using small projectile weapons". You can then build on these skills to reach medium sized guns. A specialization in Small Autocannons includes skills that aren't linked to Autocannons specifically; such as Rapid Firing (which benefits all turrets).
In DUST: Each weapon has 5-6 skills that only affect it. Want to train a different weapon? What a shame, none of those skills apply to others, and you'll have to train those 5-6 skills that do the exact same thing again. Each requires multiple million SP invested. A specialization in a given weapon is entirely within the 5-6 skills that that were added with that weapon, and 'belong' to it.
Unlike EVE, where the vast majority of skills help you towards your next specialization, DUST has a system where the minority of skills are useful beyond a specific piece of equipment. This creates a sense of "SP sinks".
So it bares repeating: the important part isn't if it looks like a tree or not; the important part is how much SP (player time and effort) is locked into a given specialization, and therefore how much SP is to be considered "useless" when chasing a new specialization. The more SP is useless to any other specialization, the less people will diversify, and the lower the actual depth of the skill tree becomes.
Compared to EVE's; DUST's skill tree looks like one you'd find in a theme park game. And it's not for a lack of skills, it's in its structure. |

And importantly, deciding that you want to do Hybrids instead of Projectiles conserves the usefulness of the SP spent on all but 2 skills in this case (Small Projectile Turret Operation and Small Autocannon Specialization). Finally, all of these skills are worth training to 5 in the long run.
In DUST: Each weapon has 5-6 skills that only affect it. Want to train a different weapon? e: We used to have a size specific blanket system, but that wasn't implemented very well either (we still had operation skills for specific weapons rather than size and type, and the blanket skills were size specific). Uprising was a step backwards w/ regards to the skill tree.
whoever came up with the current way progression, skills and suit bonus work wants lashing with barbed wire thats been dragged through dog ****

Unlike you, some of us had a PC Battle upon Login & were forced out the Gate to Spec in order to be Effective during the Battle. Like I said I could care less b/c I Maxed out my Role w/ SP to spare. That & I don't even play anymore so even less f***s are given. You are a Peonic Scrublet if you believe the End User should be Punished for Terrible Game Design. It affects me not in the slightest, but I can imagine the impact it could have on a Player who doesn't use the Forum & has less SP. SP is already a Grindfest so Devaluing the Investment is utterly disgusting. So Mr. Scrublet, you should Quit sinse you are part of the Problem as to why this "Game" is Failing. Between Irrelevant Wannabee Elitists & CoDboitards we have plenty of "Feedback" to push DUST in the right direction |

Between Irrelevant Wannabee Elitists & CoDboitards we have plenty of "Feedback" to push DUST in the right direction You want me to believe that you had to rush your SP investment because the Imperfects couldn't field 16 decent and well prepared enough players for a PC battle? Don't make me laugh.
You also mean to say that you didn't play at all between Uprising launching and the ~2 weeks later that PC launched? That's pretty unprepared for a person who was apparently important enough to have to rush skilling up for a PC match.
I actually waited weeks of playing before putting any SP in anything other than core skills because I had the foresight to realise that specialisation skills would need some checking out before spending into because there'd inevitably be things that had been changed a hell of a lot. I was well prepared by the time we had our PC matches the day after it launched.
As for new players, they don't have 8 million SP to invest in one go - we only got that because of our participation in the open beta. With that in mind, you should have known better than to rush investing SP into stuff you hadn't even looked into enough to know that going to level 5 was pointless. Furthermore, I don't think any new players should be punished for bad game design but old players should be punished if they don't take the time to check out changes before spending their SP.
Finally, your investments will once again become un-devalued when the things that are coming for the high level skills you've put SP into become available. |

Could you possibly be this utterly ignorant??? Yep, seems I underestimated your capacity for lacking cranial activity capable of even the basest of Reading/Comprehension. Let's try this again, shall we??? I am NOT AFFECTED. I both Max Spec'd all I needed EFFICIENTLY into both Tank & Dropsuit. The only Wasted SP was in LvL 4 & 5 of Vehicle Movement Skill. I have 1.5KK UNALLOCATED SP, hence just waiting around for something to spend it on. Lastly I DO NOT PLAY, save Wednesday for SP ONLY. Following yet??? Doubtful.....but one can only hope.
As for IMP being able to Field @ 10-11AM EST on RESPEC Day w/ an IMMEDIATE PC Battle??? We managed, but No. We are far from EU Centric Timezone so not many were even on, hence the Gate Rush. Also, we are a Tight-Knit Group, not a MegaCorp of Low-Talent Nubz, so we didn't have walls of Cannon Fodder to throw under the bus |
