So all this time, the EVE contingent on these forums have confused me. They constantly argue against things that would improve the game, tirelessly defend CCP's mistakes and missteps, and continuously cheerlead things that water down and otherwise negatively impact the core FPS gameplay.
But then I remembered something I heard once. Most EVE players don't like the idea behind Dust to begin with. I'm sure there are quite a few reasons for this, but I imagine at it's heart is that they don't want console newbs and CoDbois pissing in their cornflakes and potentially ruining their immaculate spreadsheets.
So, how would an EVE player respond to this new, existential threat to their perfect little world? Infiltrate and destroy it from the inside.
Of course. It all makes sense now. |

not all EVE Players were out for the demise of DUST, though with some of the pending connections, primarily DUST Industry, i am starting to hope that DUST doesnt make it... DUST META LEVEL... none of them align with the existing mechanics in EVE, where they had planned to farm out the manufacturing to, meaning that they would have to create an entirely new set of mechanics for producing DUST merchandise, by either allowing players to acquire BPOs for meta gear... which you DONT get to do in traditional EVE fashions... or create a new mechanic for invention to allow the creation of more meta content than just meta5(T2, equivilant to prototype/complex mods effectively)... not to mention the suits ... the only ships that have multiple invention outputs are battlecruisers which creat 1 of 2x command ships, would we get standard, adv, and pro frame suits to invent into assault and logistics? or would we invent standard into adv/pro?
they are going to have to build a completely new industry function for DUST merchandise... why not allow DUST to be standalone and be self sufficient SHOULD something happen to EVE... not to mention the complete lack of any NON-COMBAT roles in DUST... 15m SP or so to get a perfect infantry build... then what... 3m sp to get another race? or go vehicles?
only recently have i started wanting dust to fail only because they are turning it into little more than the worlds largest cross-console MINIGAME... i would have rather they finished CQ if they were trying to just make a new BS mini-game that theyve started turning DUST into...
Kind of surprised you admit to wanting it to fail. No skin off my back, of course. You have logical reasons at least.
The OP was made in jest, though.

Jumping needs to be limited for that reason, yes. But it shouldn't be on stamina. Some suits have enough stam to bunny hop all day long, it seems. Others have so little that by the time they run across the street they have no stamina left to jump over the 1 foot curb. Kinda sucks when that happens. Just sitting there in the open waiting for stamina to regen so you can jump over a ledge that's so low it should be possible to walk over. |

The hit detection and laggy/ sluggish aim make the strafe speed the game currently has borderline to fast. The reasons people say bunny hopping is bad is because no one shoots a gun while jumping. The thing is this is a VIDEO GAME not real life, we are playing mercenaries in outerspace and presumably in the future they are wearing super advanced suits that are for all we know capable of improving our aim. These guys are "immortal" soldiers and the longer they are soldiers they gain the experience to control to the point they could maintain aim while jumping. Having bunny hopping and fast strafe speeds separate player skill levels because it is very difficult to maintain your aim on your target when they are strafing and jumping while you're also strafing and jumping. Yes bad hit detection and lag make high strafing speeds seem bad but thats on CCP to improve. No offense to anyone but if you can't kill someone because they are jumping then honestly you just need more practice. I've been playing FPS games competitively for almost a decade and I've acquired the twitch reflexes to aim while strafing and it just takes time. By CCP lowering strafe speeds and reducing bunny hopping they put a greater importance on player SP level instead of player skill level.
Yeah but CCP's hardly the only company to place limits on bunny hopping. When's the last time you played an FPS that didn't have some kind of limiter on it? Seems pretty standard now, and I'm fine with that.
Still needs to be moved off stamina though! |
