So I haven't found a post like this yet...if there is one please link it here.
So I had an idea, when you hack an objective/ or anything really, to your side...you could "hack" it again? To "encrypt"it. Maybe it could have a whole skill line? "Hacking encryption - slow down enemie hacks by 5% per level (( only applies if that initially started the hack on the objective, and must stay for entire cycle to complete.
Maybe there could be 3 tiers of "encryption" meaning after the initial hack, you can "hack" it 3 more times, each time making the encryption stronger, and maybe adding some WP to the total value of the objective.
Say..a regular objective is 100 WP, T1 encryption is 125 WP, T2 encryption is 150, and T3 is 175.
That's pretty much, I just figured we have skills to speed up hacking, even mods. Why not slow it down? Feedback welcome. |

I like the idea of encrypting hackables. buying your defenders an extra 3 seconds could be pretty vital

Making Encrypting Require a Skill to Do, Make it take quite some time, and DON'T make it require a Special Module to do.

I like this idea, but it's a bit simplified.
Technically speaking, when your team owns an objective, I believe everything is already encrypted to the maximum capacity allowed by the target's computer. Hence the reason the opposing team needs to back-hack and upload a virus.
The actual action of hacking is just bypassing the entry-level encryption and gaining access to an unprotected system port to upload a virus. From this point on, the automated functions of the virus takes care of everything else (Re-writing target co-ordinate, passwords, IFF definitions, etc...)
If further encryption is implemented, then it would simply slow the virus down. Game-wise, I can see adding multiple layers of encryption extending the "contested objective" timer by a bit more (+10%; +20%; +30% contested timer countdown time?)
To actually slow down the hacking attempt, someone or something needs to actively be countering the hack. Perhaps a piece of equipment can be created that can be uploaded to objectives. Anti-hack software/protocols that you "deploy" onto an objective to automatically counter a hacking attempt. Maybe... |

The problem with making it skill based and NOT requiring a module, is that once you train the skill you could permanently screw yourself the times when you don't have the extra second or so to hack.
Conversely, if it turns out to be awesome, the problem is that once people train up the skill, EVERY SINGLE GAME is slowed down because of the passive skill.
I think it should definitely require a module, but be useful enough to make people want to use it. Hi-power module, since there isn't much competition for that slot compared to lows?
Great idea by the way. +1 |

I like this idea but do I don't see ccp making this a passive skill. I can see this being either an equipment or module with a skill tree to increase time delay and increase speed of encryption. I like your multiple encryption levels so I say lets go equipment
Standard encryption protocol encryption level 1 max carried 3 max active ( don't implement yet but build this into code in case they become game breaking)
advanced encryption protocol encryption level 2 max carried 3 max active
"Glacial Flux" encryption protocol encryption level 1 encryption time -35%(time to encrypt numbers could change if stacking with hacking skill) max active
proto encryption protocol encryption level 3 max carried 3 max active
Skills tree
encryption methods (x5?)skill multiplier should be higher then hacking skill prereq. hacking 3?
allows the use of higher tier items. 5% bonus to encryption delay.
encryption methods(x5) prereq encryption methods 3(or hacking 4 only makes sense to be able to skill into this after having the modules) 2% bonus to encryption time(could be higher really depends on if this would stack with the hacking bonus for saving time)
Warpoints +5 wp for any one killed while hacking your encrypted objective. (could also be +5 wp per encryption level or +5 wp per encryption level upon successful enemy hack however that promotes giving away objectives just to reclaim them)
Let me know what you think |

I like this idea.
I really like the idea of it being equipment too, though I don't think it should be deployed the same way as Drop Uplinks or Nanohives. I think it would be more fitting that they be scripts loaded into the dropsuits equipment slots. When standing at a console with a script loaded into the dropsuit, you'd have multiple prompts, "Hold X for Script A"; "Hold Square for Script B"; "Hold Triangle for Script C". There should also be scripts that can only be used on either a Blue (Defensive) or Red (Offensive) Objective.
I think this would be great and rewarding gameplay addition once core mechanics are 100%. |
