You guys remember the Karate Kid, when Mr. Miyagi said "best block is no be there"? That's how it is with snipers. I ******* hate getting sniped too but the counter is obvious. Just ******* move to cover. |

yea the fog glitch made them light up like they were on a thermal scope, but even wiout the fog glitch highlighting them there were still people and structures being intentionaly drawn furter out than is possible now. i think the increased load of added textures and larger squads ment they needed to find a way to get more gpu headroom, and droping draw distance was an easy option as most players didnt need it that far. |

It was an effect of the lack of optimisation wasn't it, and not a bug per se? My render range was limited to around ~870m, where I could shoot to ~850. I was under the impression that the new optimisation just limited the distance at which players were rendered. Interestingly, this is tied directly to the range of the weapon equipped, as I get about ~650-700m render range from my Thales and ~450 from my charge.
loumanchew wrote:It is much harder now to snipe than it used to be. Sure the maps are a little bigger but even if you red line, it is very hard to hit things as they are smaller.
This isn't an effect of the relative map size; uprising introduced a decrease in zoom fidelity to all "standard" (non-tactical) sniper rifles, making them more effective in close-medium range and less effective at long range in comparison to its tactical counterparts. The tactical rifles stayed the same, as it was a bug in the last build that they didn't have a superior zoom fidelity. I haven't tested this, but it is my gut feeling that a tactical rifle, due to its superior zoom fidelity, would also render targets further than the 450m that limits the charge and other standard rifles. |

My only argument about snipers is the draw distance. If he is smart, he should be hard to spot, but if he shoots as Im looking his direction, I should see at the very least a muzzle flash. Also, if he can see me without scoping in, then I too should be able to see him if my eyes are trained on him (minus good hiding on his part). All eye seeing distance should be the same. |

More on draw distance: players shouldnt just vanish / appear. This is the cheesiest looking effect Ive ever seen. I can understand terrain because there is so much to render, but I cant remember a good fps that has this flaw/bug. Veh/player models usually render down till they are a spec, not this houdini act they do in this game. It is annoying and graphically unappealing, as well as unrealistic. This takes away from the immersion of actually being your character. |

Somewhat easy fixes:
1: Last-hit register should be sticky upon death so that players know from which direction they were struck. It's not much, but should help considerably with 'out of the blue'
2. MCC barrier. No, you shouldn't be able to snipe or Swarm Launch from the MCC bay. Idling in the MCC bay for longer than a minute should get you booted.
3. Players holding sniper rifles should always draw. This may be a little more involved for the graphics, but it shouldn't be a major performance hit to draw a small number of people. If I can headshot you, you have every right to be able to spot me back. Whether or not you *can* is a matter of competition and pride, but you should have the opportunity.
On the other end of the spectrum, it would be nice if there was a larger area where scoped targets lit up on my teams' minimaps. As it is, I have to have the durned dot reticle right on them to paint them. It's easier to shoot than to paint! |

Reading the sheer amount of "make sense" in this thread almost brings tears to my eyes.
*sob*
If the people that complained about snipers Pre-Chromosome had even a fraction of the common sense as the people on this thread, snipers would have never had to deal with the crap that they went through (and put people through) in Chromosome.
Props to all of you guys that know how to play as, and against, a sniper. It's seriously not fkin rocket science... |

If you dont like to be hit with a sniper... try not to be out in the open. I play a sniper in the game pretty often and let me tell you, its ALOT harder to hit someone that has cover to duck behind then when your sprinting across the open. DUCK AND WEAVE dude DUCK AND WEAVE!!!!!! |

So long as they need to be somewhere I can creep up behind them and stick my scrambler pistol in their neck, I don't give two squirts of **** about snipers.
It is the MCC snipers that **** me off, though TBH, the only ones I've seen doing that got countersniped quick. |

Being as I play a sniper role rather often, I have tried to MCC shot a couple of times and didnt like it due to the fact you really dont have that much view. However I would rather sit on a hill top and pick them off as they run to a point. Blaster users are my favorite |

I agree with those who say the only issue is draw distance. I'm not a sniper, I'm a forge gunner, and when I'm near max range, a don't see anyone, I just see their chevrons. So I have to aim and hope. Thankfully I can still see vehicles. |

negative49er wrote:Sniper are becoming to harder to kill, because we can't find their location. Due to the increase of size of the map, snipers now have the most advantage than anyone else. Also even if the killboard tells how far they are it doesn't matter if we don't know which way it came from. The hit marker only last for a second when you get hit by a sniper. Also what happen to the sniper shot trail we don't even see that anymore. A sniper should take a few shot and change location, not get 64/0.
on ambush
edit: I guess I got to be more specific when say this topic, so to everyone that comment here what i mean
Yes I use a advance active scanner ( doesn't work well when you get shot from someone who is over 300 ft or worst over 400) Yes I nearly max out my scan precision( I can't remember is that the skill that increase you ability to see longer distance) Yes I went suicide tracking or whatever( not effective when you getting hit with THARS and Charge sniper rifle) It's very hard to kill someone at very-long-range ie he is keep running in chaotic directions, due the low frame rate. Description of Sniper Rifles tell's clearly that 'bullet' is moving with speed of 2500m/s, but even that there is small delay at distance shoots. Worst part is that delay is different at different range, so each time you are trying to kill new target you need to adjust some space between place where are you shooting and where is a victim(count in that everyone is moving with different speed ). Sniping may just sound as something easy, but it's not, and it's frustrating at some point..
PS Scanner, and scanner skills whant gone help you much against snipers, just try to fit as many tank as you can and stick to cover. |

Sniping isn't exactly easy. For one, getting LOS can be tough because of the map designs. There are very, very few open combat areas that are exposed to elevated positions, and a lot of hills, boxes, and walls to duck around. Anything closer than 100m and I just as well throw on some medium or heavy armor and join the fray (or not, depending on how the fight is going).
That's besides normal zig-zagging and the highly improbable chance I'll get a headshot. Body shots against the ever-common heavy armor really make me sad.
As such, most of my time isn't spent sniping, so much as countersniping. |

I use active scanners and when tracking enemy snipers the best way is to use your EYES. Why? The Active scanner only shows you , IN YOUR RADAR the enemies. The problem is that in this game the radar range is no longer than 100mts, so if you scan towards the area a Sniper is but hes not in your radar range, you are still not gonna see him...

hmm just stating that currently the only time snipers get me pissed off is when a whole team snipes. they still lose but sucks moving when one hit and your dead.
a few snipers is plenty and if done right can turn the battle
don't need to nerf them just need to balance all the classes better |
