E3 is looking really good, which is not good for DUST in my opinion. A lot of people are jumping on the FPSMMO bandwagon. I am sure CCP saw it coming. I really appreciate what they are doing and what they have done. With games like Planetside, and DUST this revolution of the genre would probably never happened. When CCP announced DUST I bet it awakened a lot of other developers to the possibilities.
Can't have not seen this day coming. I look back at all the E3s from 2009 until now. None of these games are finished and they all show the same promise as DUST. For all I know all of them could be as buggy as DUST is, but when they do come out and I check them out we will see.
Like I said, I feel terrible because these games haven't been in development as long as DUST. DUST started the bandwagon, and these guys are pretty much got their stuff together. It sucks because CCP has been working on DUST for a terribly long time and they have economists consulting on integrating the economies, and they have more expansions planned to more integrate the 2 games. It will really suck if DUST ends up failing. Forgive me, it may already have. I foresee that the only remaining loyal playerbase might be EVE imigrants. The only players left in 2014 will likely be EVE players willing to buy a ps3 to further augment their EVE gaming experience. |

Dude, for the last month DUST was aggressively pushed by SONY. 4 official playstation blog announcements, it was in the ticker of your playstation updates for 3 weeks. PS+ users got several newsletters about it. My japanese playstation account got a newletter about the release and a contest to get a merc pack. The player base jumped the first week to 8k players, and has steadily hovered at 6-7k from losing and replenishing players regularly. |

don't agree 100% with this, but I do agree it has top port to PC for the long life we have seen in Eve. PC players stick longer.

I don't see a problem.
Dust is run to be played casually if desired. I'll probably play most of the games in the upcoming 9th gen consoles. I'll still play dust.
Infact with passive SP gain, you can leave for a while and come back to a nice amount of SP. No hassle.

Don't feel sad, ccp have brought it on themselves, most other developers do things differently like,
Listening to there beta testers and try to sort out bugs and issues in a decent time frame.
Communicate with said testers to let them know what they want to be tested to see if there are any problems.
Not throw you in to do whatever you like with no ingame report function .
This is why those other games will be in a better state when released |

Without completely overhauling the SP system, this game will require a fresh launch (read wipe) after a massive amount of changes to ever be a major player. |

These charts do illuminate some of the issues surrounding the player base, but the game is still very new. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether people want to put in the effort to build a character, or just turn on a game and run in circles shooting at each other.
And just to comment on the types of players this game attracts, I am not an EVE player. I got into DUST because the premise was awesome, and I still find it to be so. |

Well if Dust does not succeed on the PS 3/4 platforms a migration to PC would be a smart move. PC's have the power run these types of games and loyal fans(Eve) to support them. As for the PS4 I feel $400 is fair as long as the specs and operating capacity of the PS4 is vastly improved over the PS3, which seems quite limited especially if your used to gigawatts of PC power. I would follow Dust over there for sure. Its plain to me that the market is steep for this kind of MMO on joe average's casual PS system. Making it more appealing ruins the meaning for some players. There is so much balancing going on with the game and player base, leaving most active gamers stuck in limbo. Hesitant, and then looking for somthing else to play. Depth, access and playability at the same time. Life is hard CCP. Keep trying to please everyone and this will be the end of the road. Whats the word...Conundrum. A paradoxical, insoluble, or difficult problem; a dilemma. End /glhf |

I think there is a disconnect between what CCP intends to do with Dust and what the developers are actually capable of doing. Unless you live in HS, EVE is not a casual game. If CCP ever intends to involve Dust into null or real lowsec FW, then Dust won't be a casual game either. The SP grind involved with Dust also lends itself to a more active, rather than casual, game play. PC gives Dust players a taste of EVE warfare -- we call it alarm-clocking. You don't know what annoying is until you have to wake up in the middle of the night to save a timer or get off work early to organize fleets for Russian prime time. |

There's no incentive to "build a character". There's basically one superior build right now, and that is a direct result of them trying to eliminate classic FPS roles. So basically, all the possible mods and weaponry find the one suit that can Min/Ma the best and that suit becomes the go to build.
This all stared with the original nerf to HMGs. Instead of tailoring new weaponry as the answer to the HMG's close quarters effectiveness, they started down the nerf nerf nerf nerf path. Next it was the Creodron Breach assault rifle, then tanks, then AV, then tanks again, the Dropsuit HP, then it was scout strafing speed, then it was AR's over all, then it was the HMG again, then it's lasers, and TacAR, and so on.
I almost think it would be best to take EVERYTHING back to their original stats and let it sort out from there. |

Love what you wrote but i think there are many viable builds. Everyone saw what Imps were doing and copied it.
Imps play style is to rely heavy on SP/levels and be carried by it. This is why you see in Blaze's video him dancing in the wide open bunny hoping around.
The counter to that is not to do the same thing he is doing and magically hope your bullets will do more damage and your shields are larger. The counter is to take cover and flank him. Of course when he has 5 to 8 million more SP then half your team such tactics do not work. Anyway everyone thought the counter was to do the same thing he does. So now we have all these people dancing around in the open bunny hopping in caldari proto suits with high shields using tacs (ARs and scramblers now)....and the perception that this is the only viable build persists.
Next time you see a dancing hopping protobear take cover...look around...know where he is going get where the flank to where he is going is...then blow his brains out.
This is what we call FPS tactics. |

CCP has already stated that Dust will be available on ps4, and that it will be linked to the ps3 game.
And that's the sort of thing they do. They run/ran Eve on different Direct X engines "in the same game," link Eve on PC and MAC with Dust's PS3, and eventually Dust's PS4.
For all we know we will be able to play with our Corpbros like we do now, only some play on ps3 and some on ps4, the latter enjoying better graphics, net responsiveness and a shitload more bloom filters and particle effects ;-)

Planetside really isnt that big of a deal. It will be fun to kill noob kids trying to play it because its free and have no idea how it works.
the grind in DUST and the grind in Planetside are about the same, but the only difference is you can buy any gun/vehicle weapon for real money. But you cant buy skill points (Certs, or Certifications). And even though some of the character classes have the same skill, they dont carry over, you have to buy it again.
You also use certs for gun upgrades and vehicle upgrades like increased ammo, zoomed scope, specialty ammo for guns (ie soft point, slightly more damaging but it travels slower).
So if you hate getting killed by someone with more time/money invested in the game... you wont like Planetside anymore than you like DUST. |

In late 2006 there was this same sense of doom on the Playstation 2 SOCOM forums and how the pending PS3 and the Slant 6 Socom Confrontation was going to decimate the SOCOM I-III and CA playerbase. Those Playstation 2 servers were still active until they were turned off last August. That is an 11 year history of being able to log on and play with actually pretty healthy numbers. If there is one thing I can give credit to Sony for is continuing to support their game servers well past the systems life or in the case of the Zipper the developer life. you can still log in and play warhawk a PS3 launch title from 7 years ago. Same for the KZ games.
The new system will not drive the player base away, its lack of additional content down the road and lack of support for cheating and glitches that drive people away. The only thing that drove the Socom fans off the PS2 was the development of MAG on the PS3 and the promise of a platform that wouldn't be re-released as a I, II, III version every year and that it was client side to thwart rampant cheats like game shark. To Sony's detriment they didn't follow up on that promise of continued content when they acquired Zipper and that population started to fall apart looking for the next thing.
This almost immediately started a trend of these exact same type of doom and gloom threads on the MAG forums by most of the exact same offenders here (I'm looking at you Stew 360 and you General Technique hows PS2, Homefront, Brink, BF2-3, KZ3, COD XX working out for you? ) Don't confuse that with the game being dead I can still log in and play any game mode although the bigger 256 Domination mode takes a bit longer.
Nothing about CCP and their history with EVE would suggest that they are not able to fulfil that same vision of making the game greater over time with additional content. If anything their track record supports the idea that they may be the first developer to succeed with that in an FPS game. If CCP's goal is to create the best game they can on this platform with that vision they are in a perfect position to do so with no need to ever port to PC or PS4. The PS3 will inevitably get a price drop and still outsell the PS4 for several years especially in asia, the same way the PS2 spiked after the PS3's release. DUST may be the only reason you turn on your PS3 in several years and if the game still hits those marks they have succeeded. Who knows if they really get it together we may all own PS4's and play Destiny or whatever new shiny game comes out (I'm looking forward to Media Molecules new game) but could still be playing on our PS3 with a huge player base that only owns a 99$ PS3 for netflix and DUST514 as well that has no intention of spending $400+ on the next thing.
As an analogy I've enjoyed the same Led Zeppelin songs whether they were played on my record player, 8 track, cassette, mini-disc, I-pod, or Pandora. The device does not make the content better, any hype to that end is exactly that hype to get you ecited and be a good little consumer. In the end the 1973 vinyl sound best and the martinez turntable that was a hand me down is worth more than any of the new crap. |

WHEN!
this is my key question now ******* when im getting sick and tired of waiting around i have 5 games off E3 alone that i can happly sink my teeth into and get a lot more enjoyment from.
Dust 514 gameplay is dull at best, and its metagame is stressful and from what i hear very upsetting in some cases. myself iv tried 5 times to get a corp of ground i might do it this time but im left very very underwhelmed on why i should even try at this point.
what exeutly is coming in the near fututre thats worth sticking around for thats not done better in other games |
