For all of those shouting the doom of Dust, or trumpeting the announcement of new games, I urge you not to get too invested in things that are only being shown quick clips of well constructed demos of.
These items are designed by marketing whose exact purpose is to make people want to buy their game, and they are quite good at their job. This kind of hype happens every year, every time, and will continue to happen for as many years as humans keep using marketing. They are specifically targeted to show you what you want to see, and do all the work of making huge promises.
Remember not to be too swept up in the hype, cut scenes are never indicative of game play, and most demos are custom made, sometimes completely independent of actual production of the game. Much of what is shown at E3 can be changed, backed up on, or removed, and many games being announced are not even slated for release before the next E3.
I'm mostly saying this to try to make sure people don't get burned by shiny cut scenes, or cool features. Remember games like Colonial Marines, or Walking dead (the one that sucked, not the good one) or any of the number of big name disappointments that came in the past. Also recall small games that came in with relatively low fanfare at huge events like this like Minecraft or FTL that took off to become highly successful.
That said, it's not all doom and gloom, and I'm sure a great many of the games being announced will be amazing (or at least I hope they will), but it's good to keep a level head around such things, and not let yourself hyped up to a point where you can only be disappointed. Also recall that many of these games will be out in over a year, which is all sorts of time for other games to be iterated upon, new things to pop out that were unexpected, or might be delayed further, and no I am not just writing this to try to calm myself down over the announcements of SWBF, KH3, or any other games.
TLDR: E3 is Marketing to convince you to buy stuff, take it with a grain of salt. |

Even if half of what was reveled comes even close to what it offered it will be better than dust.
We expected to have a full line up of racial vehicles and weapon by launch, then they launched the game with barely any content. I can live with them not being able to have X thing by Y date, but the fact they Launched the game with so much clearly missing and then balancing suits for stuff they plan to add later, like the heavies laser bonus when there is no laser heavy weapon. The thing is they launched the game without half the content, they didn't simply miss making a deadline for new content. they Launched it when they didn't have to.
Dust demos looked neat and we don't even half half of what dust videos showed and what we do have isn't working. even if half of what those E3 vedios show is true it will blow dust out of the water. Dust sole saving grace for the last year or so has been the huge void of MMO on consoles. the elder scrolls online, Destiny, and planet side 2 are coming to the ps4. |

Never a good idea to make uninformed guesses.
Where do you think I got all this cynicism for trailers from?

The OP does have a point in that E3 is a great place to see things teased that turn out to be **** in the end.

[Edit: Forum ate what I said]
The other point I was trying to get at was that many of these bigger games, like Destiny, or the Elder Scrolls will not be out any time soon, and many other big names will not be released for around a year, or more. During that time DUST will have time to continuity develop and grow. What we have now is by no means the final iteration on DUST. |

Truth be told I hate being this negitive about dust of the the titles out and coming out it still is the only one that can have player driven content, Player run corp owning territory, and player vs player wars. But Tim after time, CCP has ignored perfectly good suggestion and feedback right here in these forums ranging from harder but less nerfy fixes to painfully obvious things that CCP should have caught.
Dust had, or still has, potential as much but that is completely overshadowed by CCP complete lack openness and their maddening "Soon"s. They have never made a FPS before they have never made console games before yetthey refuse to let us See what they plan, they constantly keep things in the dark hoping to surprises us only for it to fall through. All CCP does is simply read the feedback the more post made about the feedback the more urgent it is, that simply wont work for someone with no experience in the field because they wont notice when a majority(like ARs) become an overbearing and overpowered force in the game. they should Tell us what they plan to do, they should tell the people who have stuck through 6 or 7 months of this game, what they plan to change and let us go over it. they dont need to listin to the loudest voice they need to listen to the specialist and minority.
Alot of what CCP is doing now is to little to late but there is still hope they made they can get their stuff together. The ps4 and its library arnt out yet. |

True. You cannot compare a free game now on PS3 to a $60 game in one year on PS4. That's just not fair. |

The key difference between this game and many of the others they've shown is that they will be released, will have some paid DLC released for them, and then eventually have support ceased as the next version comes out.
This is where Dust and Destiny stand apart. Both of these games are structured around having one game for no less than 10 years. No having to buy a new title a year or two after you just bought the last one so you can stay up to date.
I'll be playing both Dust and Destiny.
Destiny is clearly a more story-driven experience which is something I love and part of why I've been a steadfast fan of the Halo series until 343i came along.
Dust is player-driven just like EVE, and offers an obscenely massive world and the promise of years of FREE content just like EVE Online, and a connection to that game unlike anything ever attempted in the gaming industry.
Two different games. Two different focuses.
I can't wait to be playing them both. |
