I am having trouble deciding on how to spend my points. I have basic caldari medium to lvl 4 (before requirement dropped to 3) and caldari assault at lvl 3. Would it be wiser to get a basic proto suit, or invest the points into race suits? I'm leaning toward lvl4 of the race suit for the passive benefits and the fact that i'll want lvl 5 (but that's way down the line and lots of SP). I've got tons of ISK and a proto suit now seems like it would be a lot of fun. I've got most of my weapon and modules at a pretty good place. Any suggestions or similar situations? I'd love some feedback. |

Those points into lvl 4 basic are wasted. Proto assault and proto basic are exactly the same except assault gets the reload bonus to hybrid weapons. Which weapon are you using? If it's not a hybrid I'd go for the basic proto so that those lvl 4 points aren't wasted. |

I realize the basic lvl 4 points went down the drain, but I'm over that now. I use AR so I get the reload speed bonus and I've really been enjoying that. Does the shield recharge rate bonus apply to basic suits as well? I didn't think it did. |

Nah the bonus is for assault only. AR reload is already fast though, so the bonus isn't that significant on an AR. It'll work well on a plasma cannon or shotgun...I'd go proto basic so that those SP aren't wasted. Then in the future if you want to use another hybrid weapon you could start leveling for proto assault. Either way proto suits are very expensive, I use ADV for public matches for ISK gain. If you don't have your core skills at max (shields, engineering, etc.) I wouldn't use a proto because you'll lose more than what you gain. Also the SP sink for assault proto is huge, it's up to you if the bonus is worth it. |

i had proto basic before the respec. Went proto racial after as I was always going to go racial in the long run. Buy going straight there you dont waste sp - you save 700k i think by going racial. And if you do basic proto you will have spent a mil? before you go racial. Why would you do that?
I am not sure why you are going to level 4 though - unless you are going to go to level 5? level 4 doesn't unlock any suits does it? so what would be the point? |

I like the idea of maxing core skills. I am running ADV suits right now and having a pretty good time. Getting those core skills topped off should make em even better. I've got some saved up SP for em right now too.

Racial suit requirement was Level 5 basic for like 2 weeks or something. That was the only thing I would have even wanted a 2nd respec for, but I didn't feel like going through the whole process for just a little SP back. |

This is sage advice.
The system in Dust mimics Eve quite a bit. You can rush into battleships in Eve but you won't be able to fit them properly and you will just be throwing ISK away. It better to stick with cruisers or battlecruisers until you've got you supporting skills trained up. In Dust terms standard = cruiser, advanced = battlecruiser, proto = battleship. Also, the basic suits are like Tech1 ships in Eve and the specialty suits (assault, logi, etc...) are like Tech2 ships. The same advice we give to new Eve players applies to Dust; specialize and work on core skills first.

It's by no means a deciding factor but currently specialised suits are about half the ISK cost of the equivalent basic, just throwin' that piece of trivia out there. Is it meant to be like that? Nobody knows.
The 15%/25% bonus to shield recharging is somewhat understated as a bonus but in practice very useful, can save your clone. |

The racial spec dropsuits are all cheaper than their basic counterparts too, so its almost always better to get the specialized version. |

Yes. Go for racial. |
