You would have thought that would have been happening already otherwise how did CCP think it was going to get the game done? The restructure must be something more than that as the CPM comments about it were censored pretty quick by CCP. To be honest the easiest way to shorten that loop given the completely out of whack TZ and distance is to remove it.
AFAIK the internal structure at CCP Shanghai is the same as it was around closed beta.
My biggest concern, beyond the structure, is that I'm not seeing CCP Shanghai apply the lessons that CCP Reykjavik learns. For instance, that games with open player markets have on average much longer shelf lives than those without; that players don't like having their effort rendered redundant by business models and deaf/mute developers (monoclegate). Vague information, with no concrete source or facts. Technology is being shared between CCP studios, that much we know (see World of Darkness presentation at Fanfest 2013). But I don't think the same can be said for game development.
Otherwise, why would we be stuck in the current state?

God knows how many more F2P games Sony will announce at tomorrow's e3...
Warframe is alright, but I don't expect it to live more than a year, maybe two, post launch - not so much because of gameplay (it's pretty fun), but more because of the way the F2P business model is being pushed; that is, platinum purchases are aggressively promoted, down to discount coupons for platinum purchases as log-in rewards. Then, the problem isn't the platinum itself, but more how much it deteriorates player equity and how hard it is pushed on players.
The PS4 is looking more promising than the XBone, that's for sure; and yet I can't help but feel that the next console generation is going to be one to skip, as a consumer.
I just hope Dust hits the PC by then. |
