Currently the consensus seems to be that FW is not as meaningful to the average dust player as it could be, and that winning these battles seems less important for the average merc singing up for a contract. There has been suggestions, and plans of a loyalty point store being added in the future, but until such a system can be implemented, I'd like to suggest a short term addition that could improve the desires of the cloned soldier to participate in FW.
The idea is to add in Faction Salvage. Much like the EVE counterpart, there are Navy Faction variants of several modules, and these are often better, or require less PW / CPU to fit. How it would work is rather straight forward: Fighting for a faction gives you a chance to get Faction Salvage. This gear could be put on the same level as Prototype gear, but with less PW/CPU fitting costs. Furthermore the system could make faction warfare meaningful by making it such that winning gives a 100% chance of a module, while losing gives a 0% chance. This should help reinforce the idea that FW contracts are different from Instant Battles, and that winning matters more here, but not as much as it matters in PC.
The Faction Salvage should be focused on modules. I suggest modules as opposed to weapons / suits because they do not require ingame art assets, so that you don't have to worry about adding unique colorations. Furthermore it would allow a higher tier of suits to be built, ones that only can be created through FW (not bought in store) but these modules should also have the skill reqs of their equivalent gear (prototype in this scenario) as to give more incentive to players who can actually equip such modules to play this match type over players (like me) that cannot yet equip proto gear.
In addition to this, if I remember correctly, many of the current mechanics of FW were based off of the old incursion system. Well, believe it or not, Incursions still exist in EVE online. I don't profess to know the specific interior mechanics of each system, but if you based the FW mechanics off the incursion system, then would it be possible to add the DUST features from FW onto the Incursion system?
How it would work is rather straight forward: Concord vs Sansha battles (with faction salvage from each as stated above) that would be created in systems where there is 1) An Incursion and 2) A temperate planet. The system would work much like the current FW system, except that it would be focused on Incursions. It would also have a spawning system separate from the FW battles, so that the number of battles it spawns is a separate number from the FW spawn rate.
Winning a battle will push the Incursion forward / back by a small percentage, much like it does in FW.
This will allow for a larger number of contracts for this middle ground of missions. In addition to this, it might be possible to make these Incursion battles follow a different match style (Ambush for example) than the FW, as to allow those who prefer that style to have a higher level of contracts to compete on than instant battles.
TLDR: FW victory gives Navy Modules (Prototype equivalent with less PW / CPU for Dropsuits / vehicles) and add FW match mechanics to Incursions as well.
