LetGÇÖs talk about the Weapons and their Characteristics NOW in the Real World (Source is Wikipedia):

Assault rifle: Should at least have a firing range of 300 meters
Machine Gun: The M60 (as example from 1950) is considered effective up to 600 meters when firing at a point target; and up to 200 meters when firing at a moving point target
Submachine Gun: Key realizations made during World War II, notably the fact that most small-arms engagements occurred within 90 meters
Sniper Rifles: Effective ranges in combat situations have been stated at between 600 to 1,300 m (as Example Dragunov from 1963)
Shotgun: 12GÇ¥ Gauge from 18-37 m with a spread of 100-150cm (Spas-12 as Example)
Grenade Launcher: Depends strongly on the Rounds 10-45 meters (Like M203)
