So, in my need to get level V on basic fitting skills (Dropsuit Core Upgrade, Dropsuit Engineering, and Dropsuit Electronics), I realized that it is more often than not best to get level V in Dropsuit Core Upgrade rather than level V in Engineering or Electronics first IF you already have Engineering and Electronics at IV.
Here is why:
To get from Dropsuit Core Upgrade I to V requires 609,400 SP. You need Dropsuit Core Upgrade I to open up Electronics and Engineering.
To get from Electronics IV to Electronics V (same for Engineering) requires 777,300 SP.
Therefore, if you are where I am at, and have Dropsuit Core Upgrade I (I have II) and Dropsuit Engineering IV and Dropsuit Electronics IV, it is better to get through to Dropsuit Core Upgrades V.
From Dropsuit Core Upgrade I to V = 4% CPU AND 4% PG (a total of 8% bonus) for 609,400 SP
From Electronics IV to V = 5% CPU (a total of 5% bonus) for 777,300 SP
From Engineering IV to V = 5% PG (a total of 5% bonus) for 777,300 SP
Basically, unless the 1% bonus is required for either Engineering or Electronics, your SP is best spent in getting Dropsuit Core Upgrade to V before maxing out Electronics or Engineering because you will be given a greater overall bonus with a ~160,000 SP savings.
Going from Engineering or Electronics III to IV instead of Dropsuit Core Upgrade IV or V will be dependent on your needs and is a less obvious answer. |

I posted the following in RedBleach's Logi Code post. If you're maxing them anyway it doesn't matter but here's a quick benefit of some min-max benefits based on maths:
Note on First Skills:
Quote: Also, with Core Upgrades, you're only benefiting 1% per skill level. I'd say 2-3, and then get Electronics and Engineering up to 3-4 beyond that. 621,920 for 5% CPU/PG with Core Upgrades alone, or lvl 1 Core, lvl 3 Engineering & Electronics for total 16% CPU/PG for 696,600. Again, that's a straight total% mod to your suit's base stat.

Thanks for the added tip.
Agreed, like me, I'm shooting straight for V on all three skills. But I'll be maxing Upgrades first since Engineering and Electronics are at IV. I should have pumped upgrades sooner... but the respec made me do it. |

Don't forget that bonuses from multiple skills are compounded, so you cannot compare 5% increase vs 4% increase at face value
If you have Engineering and Electronics at IV already, and add Dropsuit Core Upgrade at V: (1+(0.05 * 4)) * (1+(0.01 * 5)) = 1.26 or 26% compounded bonus to total CPU and PG
If you just take Engineering or Electronics to V, and you have to account for prereq Dropsuit Core Upgrade at I: (1+(0.05 * 5)) * (1+(0.01 * 1)) = 1.2625 or 26.25% compounded bonus to total CPU or PG
Bringing one of the individual skills to V (at higher SP cost) will only give you 0.25% more bonus than bringing the shared skill to V (at lower SP cost and effecting both attributes at once) |

Disagree because you can stop at Core Upgrade 4, and save ~300k for that last 1% of both.
Instead build your fits and decide what you need, save your SP and get that last level electronics/engineering and decide from there. For example at Core Upgrades 2 by instead saving SP and going for Electronics 5 I was able to increase mods on over half my primary suits including a couple that are ~3-4cpu from maxed. I ended up putting 1 more point in Core Upgrades to make it level 3 and was able to make my ideal fitting for my primary suit. The PG from Core upgrades did help with 1-2 fits that were on edge but CPU was my primary concern. You may find different.
Only spend what you need, save what you can. It's actually ~300kSP for 4% CPU/PG, and then 300kSP for 1% CPU/PG after if you want to think of it that way.
also definitely use the fitting tool above, it'll help show you what you when you'll have extra space. I used it prior to respec to get me right on the edge along with a skillplanner. |

This tip was not about whether or not 1% is worth it (and as a logi, I am running suits that can actually use 1%, as in I need 1 more PG for a higher tier module). It was about the optimal order to raise skills if a player was to raise all core fitting skills to V.
If you are not planning on raising skills to V or you have your fits just fine with fitting reqs, then any extra fitting is a waste. |

I did not know that skills compounded. I always thought it calculated suit bonus separately for each skill, then added them together to the final suit. Then any other percentage based modules stacked with that. So for example, a suit with 100 PG, level V in Engineering and level in Core Upgrade would net you a suit with 130 PG (+25 PG from Engineering and +5 PG from Core Upgrade).
Thank you for showing me that. |
