Actually that number is the maximum concurrent users within the last 24 hours, so by definition it will be less than 24 hours ago.

this is not the 5th in dust release like COD style game were you buy the same game over and over and get the same game over and over. Numbers will climb at a slow pace as they adjust the game monthly and eventualy they will creep up and hit the 20-30k mark. Don't go away mad just go away. |

remember this is steam only and that the pc market is only 10% of the size of the PS3 market, so in theory you could add a zero onto the end of any of these and gives you an idea
but still its all a pinch of salt, i love dust and want to see it succeed, threads like this do nothing, threads which help is what we need and we need the cpm to help filter the good threads to CCP to get this game working as intended

the premise of your statistical analysis is flawed. It is biased by what you consider the appropriate number of people playing to call it a hit. Since you seemed to have left that number out we can only discern 1 thing. That the numbers are true
your ability to discern what the numbers mean however is severely lacking.
In other words, no numbers do not speak for themselves. When dealing with statistics there is far more to consider than the simple numbers presented. For example you say that the population is trending downward as the graph obviously shows, you are sadly mistaken. The population has stabilized, and the bad trends are the result of the recent server issues. Since that site reports people connected and not people attempting to connect there is already a variable discrepancy in your assumption . In fact by going off of your childish "see jane run" style of reporting statistics, you should have reported an increase of the population from 0 to over 6000 overnight.
Of course you wouldn't do that because it would invalidate your entire argument, but nonetheless your not doing so makes your report inconsistent and invalid. |

I am using it broadly here. I mean that Dust is on the news scroll near the clock on PSN, it is on what new, it is plastered all over the market, it is in that Home thing...there is even a Dust 514 bar.
If you own a PS3 (you know everyone who plays Dust) it is hard to miss the fact that Dust 514 exists and easy to get....that is 30 million people know about it and can get it easily. |

Planet side 2 takes the same amount of time to download and is also free. So in other words they have the same sized player base even though Dust gets a crap ton of exposure and directed advertising to game players that planet side 2 does not get.
Also why would being free be considered a bad thing that would push people away? Team fortress is free....i am pretty sure that does not hurt its numbers.

The reason it hurts their numbers is because almost all casual gamers go to a store, buy a game, play it for a couple months then pick up something else from said store... They dont go on PSN and dl games that take a long time to start up with huge learning curves... lets be serious if ur not a true gamer or have way too much time to sink into gaming, you would have never picked up this game or any other downloadable ftp game |

How about looking at the longer trends? After the latest update (launch) we got 4k - 5k more players on average. There was no special advertising and no big launch events. That's more significant than the max ever being 1k more than the max in the last few days. We had around 8k on the 1st June. The overall average since launch has been around 7k and this has barely changed.
There have been some reviews on online games sites but other than PSN, zero advertising. A vast majority of console gamers don't go on the PS store and wouldn't even consider downloading a game. It's just habitual - although this is gradually changing - consoleers get their games from shops.
The massive drop in player count that so many trolls keep trying to shout about isn't happening. It's a lie. Earlier in May the same people were all laughing and telling us we'd never get over 5k players. Now they need something new to laugh at us for. There'll always be some new goal these people create for Dust to be falling short of. |

Your forgetting that this is a new IP meaning the adoption rate is lower compared to games like COD which has a much higher adoption rate. Second this game has seen very little advertising and the advertising that it got was from last years Game events like E3. Third there has not been to many Youtube Channels that picked up play this game in there background footage.why do you think COD sells so much? cause if your youtubing for gaming news or peoples opinions you have look at the latest COD playing in the background. I hate COD and yet i still see almost every map and see almost every gun in the game just from listening to commentators on YT |

LOL all you fanboys are looking at this like people have already gone and spent $60 bucks on this game pffff.
This game sucks and its free 2 play and try.
New people try it, see that it sucks and move on or don't pay any money on it.
Vets who have spent the money see that its stale, it sucks, and don't spend money on it.
A free to play game with poor numbers means no $$$$$$ is coming in, no money coming in means no game.
For Pete's sake, open up your eyes fanboys.

Dust is subsidised by EvE. CCP knows that once players reach a certain SP, there's very little point in aurum or boosters, so no need to spend anymore money. Eve is the steady cashflow that will support this game for 10 years.
Stop trying to move the goalposts to make it look like this game is failing. It's not. |

Never had more than 10,000 playing this game at one time, . Graph is going the wrong way. It should be going up not down.
For a single world, those numbers are still 2 to 3 times more players than other MMOs have on a single world at any given time. |
