Tranquility, the server cluster servicing both EVE Online and DUST 514, were taken offline due to attacks by an unidentified third party yesterday. EVE players were the most affected, being unable to set their skills to train and several large battles being abruptly ended by the unexpected downtime. Due to the particular way skill progression works in the game, players there are expecting some sort of minor compensation in the form of skill points.
On the DUST side of things, however, players were only somewhat affected; skill points accumulate in an unused pool and must be spent on skills, similar to how items are purchased in both games. Thus, DUST players did not lose any SP-gaining opportunities, other than playing the game itself. Planetary Conquest is the only "serious" side of the game affected, and perhaps a refund of any lost clone packs is in order.
However, that hasn't stopped DUST players from demanding compensation beyond what even EVE pilots are expecting. The forums clamor for gifts of ISK, SP, AUR, and respecs (despite having just received another). This, combined with the large amount of whining and even threats of a class-action lawsuit over player actions during a banking error, leaves one asking:
Could the DUST playerbase be worse than EVE's? |

Actually. ****. Off.
It is a free game, and games we pay for don't compensate us when their servers go down for 2 days... Deal with it. |

I dont think anyone should be entitled to anything due to this problem. Although I think it would make sense if CCP decided to give every dust player free 150K SP. I mean this last week was just so full of fail on their end doing something simple like this would go a long way to fix how their playerbase feels about them right now. |

Observations: OP is a member of Goonfleet. I'm sure there is nothing hidden behind this Molotov post. There is a sticky at the top of this forum already addressing plans for reimbursement for downtime. The Dust community isn't quite the same as the EVE community -in mentality (typical fps vs EVE's sandbox), or in game maturity. |

Yea I don't the whole "Compensation" thing for DUST. People are feeling that entitled?
I mean, free **** is always cool, but demanding it? lol
C'mon guys, get real. You missed a day of DUST, so what? You missed some meager active SP and some passive SP...big deal. This is one issue where I'll gladly bring the old EVE mantra of HTFU.

Eltra Ardell wrote:Could the DUST playerbase be worse than EVE's? I'd say its about the same. Not that its a good thing. Then again, what multiplayer game has a good playerbase? Everyone whines and complains and expects to get something for nothing.
All things considered, I'd say its not so bad. None of our information as customers was taken during the attack and it proved to be little more than an annoyance on our side of things. So, maybe we should all give CCP a group high five for taking quick action. |
