I hereby formally request that CCP releases PvE content in the very near future, no matter the state it's in. I don't care how unfinished it is or how broken it is, because PvP is already like this and tweaking the PvP experience is going to be a very long process.
To kill the time and give use something fun to do, let us shoot at those beautifully designed drones, even if they just shuffle around the map or are horrifically stupid or even just sit doing nothing.
I just want something better to do that isn't as basic as being stomped or doing the stomping.
Please. |

Me too but wouldn't you rather have CoD zombies than nothing? I personally hate CoD, but I loved zombies in World at War and Black Ops, but even that got stale. The reasons I want it in Dust is because it will take so long for it to get boring. Character advancement and playing with fittings is what will keep this game alive, and only through PvE content will players really get to test their gear within controlled parameters. |

Esper Shadows wrote:Good enemy AI is not easy to achieve and is probably a massive dev time sink. There are enough issues in the PvP modes that sidetracking a significant portion of the dev team into a whole entirely new game mode is probably not a good idea right now.
I'd be happy with improved PvP, and more PvP gaming mode options for right now. But the original point remains: Getting PvP to even 90% of what it should be is going to take a long long time as we're already at 80% - fine tuning takes much longer. At the moment we have no PvE so going from nothing to something is going to be preferable than going from 80% - 81% (and so on) for the next year.
As for the post about AI, that doesn't matter for one, maybe two reasons. Firstly, I just want to roam environments that I can control in some degree, even if these drones worked the same as enemy turret AI, I wouldn't care. It would simply be something else to do. Secondly, I'm 99.9% certain that unreal 3 has it's own AI hard coded. Even if we're just fighting bots it would be great to just shoot something else, feel as powerful as we should as genetically engineered super soldiers.
EDIT: Told you. |

Would you expecte the bottle of coke to give you all you see in a commercial? see those trailers as commercials. not everything in it is also reality. To the Petition: NO. Because you ppl would be among the first to rage and QQ in the forums. Would you mind telling me how you came to that conclusion? Raging and QQ'ing has no place here...
As for your little analogy, it's terrible. No I wouldn't expect a bottle of Cola to be a magic item that grants wishes, but I would expect that if the commercial told me it could, it damn well better be able to. The only excuse you have for the trailer's apparent inaccuracy is that the voice says GÇ£you might need to clear out drone infestationsGÇ¥ but that's shaky at best because we've been shown these drones in at least two trailers now and this one:
The way of the mercenary
It's at least 8 months old! And the next one:
Gathering Forces
It's 5 months old.
If a game has a trailer that clearly shows in game footage, you expect to be able to go and enjoy that particular part of the game unless stated otherwise.

Not hating the idea, I like it. I just popped in to say, that's not in-game footage. Assault Suits can't hold Forge Guns, and they didn't have white suits. I'm sorry to say, that's computer animation. :( Sorry, I meant in terms of in game models. The trailer uses in game assets along with a little computer magic for sure but the intention is to make it appear as though you can do all of the things in the trailer. This also doesn't cover the GÇ£Way of the MercenaryGÇ¥ trailer (which is even older) as it does use what I can only see as in game footage. |

shaman oga wrote:A tower defense mode can be something pretty easy to start. For the devs, it doesn't require a superb AI. And level design should be not so complicated for them. Like I said earlier, I don't care if I'm shooting at targets standing still, I just want a controlled environment ASAP. I love ambush OMS because it's the only game mode where you can be in a match by yourself or with just one other person. It's great to get to know the maps on your terms, and it's much less frustrating to be killed by a giant robot of death than somebody who is miles better than you for whatever reason (More SP, better gear, OP fit, LAV, or just being better). |

Cinnamon267 wrote:Jathniel wrote:Cinnamon267 wrote:Petition? Forcing it out won't do anyone any good. Having no PvE, won't do anyone any good either. I've actually been going out more, and just not bothering to try and make it to every PC battle, because PvP just seems to drag on and on. Almost the same predictable outcome between the same predictable players. Good matches are rare, and most matches are one-sided because of overall balancing issues. I'm tired of this ****. I want more content. I use to think nerfing one weapon or buffing some other would make the game manageable after a while. Now idgas, and I should have known better. I've been playing online games for 13 years, I already KNOW balancing issues NEVER get 100% player satisfaction. So I end up just 'flavor-of-the-monthing' it, until QQ leads to more adjusting. It would be nice to have PvE game modes, where PvP is of little to no consequence. Even soldiers take time to stop and play a game of football or basketball or cards, FFS... What's so wrong with opening up the redzone a bit more and having a LAV race? (I know, this is PvP, but it's something new.) What's wrong with being able to walk about in say... an instance of your own district? There's always the choice of just taking a break from the game in general, but I think that's self-defeating to a player that actually wants to simply BE in the New Eden universe doing SOMETHING... ANYTHING other than PvP. And forcing it out causes more people to **** and moan about it "sucking" and the game is "dying". We don't need more. I agree more content is needed. But, the thing that is needed is more FINISHED content. We don't know how far PVE is away from being released into this game. It is coming. We know that. We've heard about it. Walk in your own district? People are so desperate for something else other than what they have I have to wonder why are they even playing? You sound like you hate it. I don't see how forcing out content is going to remedy that. Mike Poole wrote:It's surprising that CCP is against releasing an unfinished game feature. I mean hell just look around. Except we don't know what state it is in. For all we know it's still in the prototype stage. RINON114 wrote:Any more support here? I support more content. Just not half assed content. I want what they have polished and finalized. Not other things that clearly aren't ready for the daylight. Agreed that you shouldn't play if you hate it, but let's face it: people are sticking around for the potential of this game more than for what it is now. Incomplete PvE is better than nothing as has been said previously. Also, I will return to one of my earlier examples:
Dust 514 is like a marathon. Getting to the half way mark is fairly easy for those who have trained, even getting 80% of the way should be fairly simple. But to run that last 10% is massively more difficult than the first 80-90%. What this represents is PvP, it's about 90% completed with all of the tweaks and balancing issues that need applying accounting for the final 10%.
The above example can be applied to PvE so we can have, at least, a 50% finished game mode. It doesn't have to be anything spectacular, the first **** Zombies from CoD: World at War was a simple bonus level that provided hours upon hours of fun, and I doubt it took more than a week to develop and implement.
The main reason for withholding PvE seems to be one of pride, they don't want to release it without the mode having some tie to EVE, to which I say GÇ£I don't careGÇ¥. If PvE was in this game CCP would be at least 100 dollars better off, just saying. |

Skipper Jones wrote:As much as I would LOVE to see PvE finally come out, It's the wrong time for it. Since the Beta stamp is off now, CCP can't be releasing "Sink or Swim" components to the game. This isn't a tester's game now. They should've released it for a week or two in the closed beta to see how players reacted to it and work from there. I do wanna see PvE soon. This next big update (That should be coming later this year) hopefully has PvE in it.
I really hope this is true and I agree somewhat with your stance on sink or swim tactics. It does seem however that Dust might need it. We apparently have another large update in June so I guess we can hold out for that, but I'm still of the firm belief that Dust will need PvE very soon. Every day new players (and vets like me) get protostomped is another potentially lost customer for CCP. I hope they're reading this too becaise if PvE is any good, they can expect to get very rich. |

Jathniel wrote:"Incomplete PvE is better than none."
Hell. CCP decided that incomplete PvP was perfectly okay, so they went Live on 5/14.
How is incomplete PvE going to be any different? They're better off releasing it and letting us give feedback for its development. The sooner it's out, the sooner progress can start being made.
AI generally has a large memory footprint. My guess is, they can't find a way to introduce decent AIs without breaking something else (just look at the RDV pilots). Why not just put the dilemmas before all of us? What's all this hush hush for? This. Exactly this. The way I see it, the entire game exists and always will exist, in an incomplete state. Why is PvE any different? Although, given the fact that CCP have taken two years to get where we are, it would hardly be surprising if it took another two to get such a huge content update. |

Daedric Lothar wrote:If you want single player, I hear "The Last of Us" is coming out next week. IGN rates it 10/10..
Kill some time for awhile.
I've actually been playing alot of Minecraft lately, just because.....
I would but I'm not heavily invested in an unknown quantity like The Last of Us, as for Minecraft, I'm in the long process of shipping things from my home in Hong Kong back to the UK and my PC is already on it's way.
The main point I wish to get across is also not one of my personal enjoyment with Dust but more of a way to keep new players around and for some downtime between just winning/losing to inferior/superior players. |

Beren Hurin wrote:Right now PvE could give you a small number of things...
1) A new way to get SP 2) A new way to grind isk 3) A source for alternative resources
1&2 may break the monotony for a bit, but it would only be as interesting as the variety and difficulty of the content, and its quite difficult to make AI more interesting than people.
3 wouldn't work right now because there is no p2p market yet. It could also do none of the above. Personally I would play it for no rewards for now until they got it finished. |

I finished working my necromancy to revive this thread with a fresh perspective:
- I have 99% given up on playing Dust.
PvP is just so terribly non-appealing anymore. I can't seem to aim at all, my lag is always terrible and I find myself dying in situations I shouldn't be in (rubber banding due to lag). I still keep faith that this will one day be an incredible game and will log in from time to time and have a look at the state of things.
This is not a whine or QQ either, I will continue to play, just a lot less than before for the many issues already listed.
If PvE were to be in this game, my attention would return to this game 100%
Let me give you an example of why: I bought inFamous 2 recently as I missed out when it was released. I played it for 12 hours non stop, only taking a break when I finally realised how damn hungry I was. After acquiring sustainance, I played for a further 5 hours.inFamous 2 is entirely PvE. |
