My intitial impressions after reading the DEV BLOG:
--Templars are an elite group of Amarr warriors who refuse to bow down to the whims of the Empress. --They are BAD***! Kind of like the special forces, everybody wishes they could be one. --Uber skill points --Advanced Dropsuit, Advanced Weapons --Lots of ISK --Killing one is a major accomplishment! YOU will feel Bad*** if you can kill one.
REALITY!
--Templars are broke, low skilled pushovers with crappy equipment. --NO ISK --NO free LAV --NO pre-existing skill books --2,000,000 SP, (Seriously! Templars are complete noobs) --Standard level gear --Killing a templar is easy as pie. The Amarr should be ashamed of offering a bounty on a group they should be able to kill easily.
If CCP were to do this event again, these are my recommendations.
--Lots of ISK --Lots of SP (like 20 - 40 mil) --Advanced BPOs for the event.
Being selected as a Templar (or equivelant group) should make you feel like a god! The ISK and SP to sink into awesome fits and skills. Killing one of these Mercs should be a major accomplishment!
If the FAQ had been available when I read the initial dev blog, I wouldn't have bothered applying. It sucks to be a Templar Renegade |

The only challenge in this event was finding a Templar to kill in a match. Even with the requirements for 20 matches and 20,000 wp, not very many Templars to go around for 8000+ active players (at any one time) rushing all into pub matches. You find one and everyone swarmed for the kill. The only difficult thing was getting the kill first.
Why in the hell was there a 2.5 M bounty on them? If they were worth 2.5 M, killing me should get you at least 5 mill or heck killing a 10 mill SP proto should net you like 20 M per kill. It just doesn't make sense. |

The Amarr Templar is like a hot chick. Everyone is trying to hit it.

I have a question regarding the reward requirements for templars...In the original announcement, the requirements are listed twice, and conflict with each other in the same post. The first says "20 games, 20,000 skill points" and the second says "20 games, 20,000 war points". I can understand the first one, but to expect 20,000 WP in the course of three days with what is basically a brand new character is kind of steep. |

Unless I've squaded up with other templars, I've only ever seen 1 other templar in a match. We definitely are a rare sight, and I'll tell you why. A lot of templars have given up playing. It just really sucks being a low-skilled, crappy equipment, no isk player, that EVERYBODY is trying to kill. It would actually be really fun if we had a ton of SP to sink into a lot of different skills, had good equipment, and had the ISK necessary to buy our fits. 300 Crappy standard-level BPC's I'll probably never wear again is hardly motivation to put up with the crap of being a templar. |

I'm pretty sure it is 20,000 warpoints. I know that I am no where near meeting that requirement, because I get gang-banged everytime I step out of the MCC (and with 2mil SP, STD BPOs, and no ISK, my character is very easy to kill). I've started trying to ninja hack installations and objectives just to get som WP. |

I'd really like a dev to verify this, because the original post says both. It's kind of bullshit to expect everyone to make 20,000 WP in 20 games. With top-of-the-line suits and weapons, yeah....but with these suits and weapons, nope. |

No ISK at all does seem a pretty critical oversight, especially with STD BPOs.
The other issue is that fielding strictly Amarr weapons means no Tac-AR, they'll be outclassed by anyone wielding one. Scram Rifles equalise it somewhat but still. They have no tangible edge, just a surplus of shortcomings.
Also somewhat related, am I missing something obvious or has there never been any in-game mention of this or any other event? It all appears to be out of game, once you're in there any attempt to connect the in-game experience to the lore is non-existent. Couldn't there just be a News section to keep any player casually checking up on it after logging in apprised of any noteworthy current events in Dust or the wider EVE universe? Could also give a bit more flavour and context to the game for those that care, too.
Is there a compelling reason why not to have this? That it requires maintenance to update and remain current is all I can think of but even if it's just barebones and in no way comprehensive I think it might be welcome. If it can interest players who otherwise don't look to anything Dust outside of the client into the lore and events then it could be actively beneficial.
Or am I alone in this and no-one would really give a toss? |

I agree with the OP. This event is indicative of the gaming experience CCP has promised through Dust 514 but has yet to produce.
All the devs did was put out a new suit(skin) for players to kill/wear. This event hasn't changed the game play, the community or given any new excitement. It just feels like ploy to get people to play on the weekend. |

1. I think the equipment is fine, though I actually read the description and understood that we were trying out the items from the EVE box set. IF they were advanced BPOs that would have a huge negative impact on the game. The only legitimate BPO concern is that the templar scrambler pistol has militia (not standard) level stats. This should change.
2. A fresh Templar character had very little to start with. 0 ISK meant no skill books or fitting modules. The characters could have at least been given a stack of each militia module/equipment to get us started. It took me about 10 matches before I earned enough ISK to buy all the skill books to spend my 2 million SP.
3. A lot of people seemed misinformed on what it meant to be a Templar. If the role play backstory does not entirely represent the facts they should be clearly separated somehow. Or the story could have been written that the hunt was taking place because the Templars were caught of guard somehow and are in a weakened state during the event.
4. I think another issue with the event is balancing it for new and experienced players. The Templars feel like a balanced, exciting challenge for new players and I'm guessing that is why we have low SP. Part of the reason for the event was to encourage people to play the game that are new or might come back.
This issue is representative of a problem with the whole game. There is no area for newer players to play the game (outside of academy) and not be up against advanced or proto level players. The cry of Templars unable to go up against proto suits is the cry of almost every player with less than 3 million SP. EVE systems have different security levels to allow players to gradually move out to more dangerous areas of the game. Dust needs that as well.
5. Further rewards to encourage participation. Perhaps for the hunters a reward for the top 5 players that kill the most Templars. For the Templars maybe a reward for the top 5 who complete the most public matches. Maybe for future hunts?
6. 20,000 SP or WP? seriously CPP a lot of us are confused and 20k WP is too much (though 20k SP is nothing).
7. As said above, there is no in game information about events (or anything). You pretty much need to check these forums to fully appreciate the game. I'm guessing a large percentage of people that try the game never visit the forums. Some sort of in game news feed would help a lot. |

I want to say "Thank you" to CCP for the event. It wasn't perfect and was hurt by the DDoS attack, but I thought it was a good idea and I played with a lot of people who said they enjoyed it in game.
Players on my team would sometimes try to protect me even though there was no reward for that. It was a little novelty and light role play. It also made me want a dedicated VIP mode or something.
I'm looking forward to the next event that CCP runs. |

You bring up a lot of good points. Thank you for your constructive feedback. I started this post in an attempt to help CCP improve on their player events.
While I sort of get the balancing issue of Advanced BPOs, after playing with the Templar gear, I certainly will NOT be forking over 150+$ to get my hands on more STD level gear. I might be tempted if the BPOs for the limited-run-10-year collectors edition were ADV gear. But hey! CCP will probably sell enough just to the EVE players.

I'm totally with you here. No ingame communications, news or otherwise. Most of the player base probably doesn't even visit the forums and has no desire to do so. And who can blame them, with so many trolls, tear farmers, and flamers. I only put up with the forums to attempt some constructive feedback.
How were the rest of the player base to know about the ingame event? |

CCP added 100 slots to accomodate Playstation VIPs. I wonder what their experience was like? Because if this was their first exposure to DUST 514, they probably are not coming back. |

I killed one guy 5 times in one match and once (at the end when i had joined) of the previous match. and i found it ridiculously easy. all i did was jump around and fire my 'toxin' smg at him or snipe him with a standard sniper rifle.... |
