Q&A / Introductions:
Heinrich Jagerblitzen
-Favorite dropsuit/playstyle: I currently wear Amarr medium and heavy suits, and have specialization in Forge Guns, Lazer rifles, and Scrambler Pistols. I spent most of my time in a heavy suit - basically making do with maxed out biotic upgrades while I anxiously await a shield-based Heavy suit with a more mobility.
-Brief Dust514/Eve history: I've spent the majority of my nearly 4-year EVE career in Faction Warfare, living in low-sec and fighting for the Minmatar Militia. I absolutely love small-gang PvP, though the last 8 months I've really spent most of my gaming time with Dust514, logging into EVE only to update skills or keep my drug manufacturing going. I served as Vice Secretary on CSM7 and worked with CCP extensively on Faction Warfare / Lowsec / Crimewatch issues. I have been playing Dust514 since it initially went to Closed beta last April, and been playing it almost exclusively for the last 6 months. Sadly I haven't really been playing much EVE during that period, but Dust is where the action is at and where the most evolution is taking place. Also, there weren't any other CSM members engaged heavily in Dust and I was in a unique position to represent the community to CCP's upper management using my access as a CSM member
-Personal favorites of Dust514: That it takes place in an emergent universe, and includes cross platform gameplay, deep customization, and some unique sci-fi weapons (Laser rifle, Forge Gun, Nova Knives)
-Personal beefs with Dust514: Core performance still needs a tremendous amount of work - better framerate, better hit detection and reduced lag. Weapons, vehicle, and dropsuit balancing still needs a great deal of attention and will only be successful once the developers working on balance engage the community and listen closely to feedback. Also, I wish there were MORE unique sci-fi weapons (Plasma launchers are simply RPG's, Mass Drivers are simply conventional grenade launchers, etc)
-Primary responsibilities on the CPM: As the only member of the CPM with extensive (and successful) experience working with CCP under an NDA on upcoming features as a CSM Representative, I'm able to advise the other members on how to forge strong working relationships with CCP staff as well as navigate the studios' development process in order to accomplish our goals.
-Personal goals as a CPM representative: To establish the same level of interaction between the CPM and CCP's Shanghai studio that the CSM currently enjoys with CCP's Reykjavik studio, drawing on the past 7 iterations of CSM trial-and-error in order to bring the best practices into the CPM at the ground level.
-Times you are on (approx is fine) Evenings during the US Pacific Timezone.
-Your personal requests to the community Keep your threads organized! Spamming the forums is the least effective method of getting heard. Run a search, post in an existing thread first instead of starting a new one, and if you need a response, contact one of the CPM members personally and link the thread, rather than cluttering up the forums further. This greatly increases your chance of response and makes life easier on those that you want responses from. |

Iron Wolf Saber
-Favorite dropsuit/playstyle I play an omni-soldier being flexible has always been my deal in being able to anything needed when needed. Nothing frustrates more than to go into a fight and not have a tool to deal with the situation. I rather be inadequate than incapable.
-Brief Dust514/Eve history I started playing Eve back in 2006 when a friend told me about a science fiction mmo and ever since getting in I have been stuck in it doing the low sec, null sec, mining, industry and science. Now my Main has retired from all that and runs a small shipyard making both real and fan-fiction'ed ships.
-Personal favorites of Dust514 Seeing how people are adapting to the culutre of New Eden.
-Personal beefs with Dust514 Consistent whiners unable or unwilling to adapt as the solutions are there already existing. CCP messaging a bit unclear at times and having to repeat or clarify it over and over again.
-Primary responsibilities on the CPM: Aside form the normal CPM work of helping with the reports and communicating with CCP, I primarily read though the forums and help validate (or invalidate) player game play concerns, reports, or complaints when it comes to certain perception of balance or help verify bugs while keeping communication with the players issues that are a bit beyond standard guy A shooting guy B.
-Personal goals as a CPM representative: Overall I would like to see NPE vastly improved overall this game is not the every day shooter and the every day tutorial is not going to cut it and dust 514 doesn't even have that yet.
-Times you are on (approx is fine) US Central Afternoon times in game, Forums throughout random times of the day.
-Your personal requests to the community Please stop using the CPM forum section as Features and Ideas or COAD. It is there to be more about talking about us the community or with CPM over major issues that are pertaining to the CPM's business, not to be a used cars salesman attempting to resell an old idea that has been mentioned dozens of times before. Also if you are going to put a thread in CPM forums all I ask that some of you put just as much effort into the thread as other CPM members put into their own work. |

Jenza Aranda
-Favorite dropsuit/playstyle I dont really have one. After a reset/respec i always change my playstyle radically. though I have a special place in my heart for dropships.
-Brief Dust514/Eve history Been playing eve since 2006 on and off, mostly industrial but have been out in nullsec many times, Been playing dust since it began and was active in-game on every build
-Personal favorites of Dust514 The game itself, though i love my corp and all its wonderful dudes.
-Personal beefs with Dust514 Crashes and FPS lag.
-Primary responsibilities on the CPM: Hard question to answer without getting into specifics and we're still sorting out with CCP which items are covered by the NDA, but just like the other CPMs i bring important issues to CCP and work with them to try and resolve it.
-Personal goals as a CPM representative: I dont really know if I have a goal per say other than make sure its successful. unlike CSM people who run for election saying they want to reprisent a certain playstyle or mechanic, I was chosen. I think we need to wait before the game is more developed before a certain goal is reached. That being said I would love the EVE - Dust link to be more meaningful than eve dudes press one button and explosions happen on the console that the eve dudes cant even see.
-Times you are on (approx is fine) Afternoon to evening, GMT.
-Your personal requests to the community Give me a break? |

-Favorite dropsuit/playstyle My forgegun is my pride and joy. I'll moonlight as an assault on occasion as well, but I've always loved blowing stuff up.
-Brief Dust514/Eve history I've been playing first personal shooters for over 20 years and they will always be my frist love. I was deeply entrenched in Battlefield 2 (still one of my all time favorite FPS's) in 2005 when I stumbled across Eve Online. The player stories and player driven space opera caught my attention and pulled me in. From there I heard whispers and rumors about an FPS linked to New Eden. Eventually the day of my beta key came June last year and I've been entrenched in Dust ever since.
-Personal favorites of Dust514 My favorite thing about Dust is the social structure and the connections to New Eden. The game is what draws you in but it's the social that will keep you around. I have really enjoyed the competitive side of Dust and have had tons of fun participating in the Tester's Tournament, Fanfest 2013 Eve/Dust Tournament, and running the Open Beta Tournament.
-Personal beefs with Dust514 I hope that CCP continues the process of iterating the core gameplay mechanics. These core mechanics are going to be what leaves those first impressions and hooks players into New Eden. I would much rather have an option to have a less pretty game and better gameplay. If something with the graphics and visual effects gets in the way of a player shooting someone else effectively then it needs to be addressed.
-Primary responsibilities on the CPM: I try to reach out to the community as best as I can. When I hear issues with a certain role or part of Dust I do my best to seek out experts in those areas no matter their in-game tags. Talking with the most enthusiastic and informed players in each area of Dust is pretty awesome. We also work with CCP through the NDA to give feedback on features and goals on the roadmap for Dust.
-Personal goals as a CPM representative: My personal goal is to establish a fully representative Council elected by the players, so that the community can choose their voice and through their CPM the direction that Dust takes moving into the future. With the community's voice I hope that CPM0 and CPM1 lay the groundwork for the CPM to serve as a stakeholder in development process of Dust 514.
-Times you are on (approx is fine) You can always reach me on skype and I'll try to answer my emails as quickly as I can. Always feel free to drop me a line or tell me your thoughts.
-Your personal requests to the community Never be afraid to provide quality feedback or your own insight to a problem or issue.
-Additional Statement When it comes down to it I think it will be the community that has embraced Dust that will carry it through the good times and the bad. For such a young game I really feel that Dust has a robust and amazing community and I hope that only grows. Through the long beta process, every Duster should be proud of what we have helped to create. Through your continued input and feedback, I feel that Dust will only get better and more amazing with time. CCP has an amazing tool available to them with the community and I really hope that they always feel that the community is someone they can partner with to allow Dust 514 to truly reach its amazing potential. |

Laurent Cazaderon
-Favorite dropsuit/playstyle I am definitely an assault guy using an assault weapon and various assault equipment. So yeah, assault.
-Brief Dust514/Eve history I played Eve Online for six month before i could join Dust 514 closed beta in early May 2012. I wanted to see how that huge universe works and how every gameplay layer enterlace with each other. It was also the opportunity to create the What The French corporation from which i've been CEO since its creation.
-Personal favorites of Dust514 Definitely the way different roles and suits need to work together, Planetary Conquest and its battles with actual stakes, some weapons like the forge gun or the laser i find freakin amazing, calling vehicles anywhere.... so many things.
-Personal beefs with Dust514 There are several :
Technical issues: (lag, framerate, aiming) still needs to be smoothed out.
Communication : CCP needs to be more open regarding near future evolution and discuss it with the entire community. It's not a problem if you say you want to add something and cannot do it in time as long as you let people know. Worst part of communication is frustrating your audience. Detailled one year roadmap should be on the table so the community can actually help CCP prioritizing and give feedback and ideas on what's planned.
Roles, specialization and interaction : I feel the different roles in dust are less and less obvious in specific areas. When the strenghts and weaknesses of every suit or vehicles were obvious at some point, it feels now as if everything is quite similar with only a few differences. But this is way too large topic to discuss here.
-Primary responsibilities on the CPM: Getting as much feedback as possible from forums, in-game players or other media and alert CCP on what should be prioritized according to the community overall wishes. Other than that, mostly discussing with devs to try and understand how the game works and what lies in their head.
-Personal goals as a CPM representative: Tough one. I said during the CPM panel at Fanfest that my main goal was to help make Dust a better FPS. This is still what i intend to do as i think CCP is more than capable to deal with the MMO part and the EVE link by itself but needs more help from the community regarding FPS mecanics. But giving a specific explanation on how i will do that is almost impossible as improving the FPS part of the game is not just fixing one thing. Balance, roles, dynamic, controls etc.. All this has to be taken into account and improve as much as possible
-Times you are on (approx is fine) I'm mainly available during the week in-game or via forums or skype.
-Your personal requests to the community Have faith in what the CPM can and will do. Not just this CPM0 but every CPM after this one. It can, and must, be a powerfull tool to improve the dynamic between the community and CCP. No other developper does that, so might as well make the most of it.
Also, as the other CPM members said, never hesitate to give feedback or ask us anything. |

Nova Knife
-Favorite dropsuit/playstyle Vehicles, Nova Knives, 'Quafe' Scout vk.0 (Because they're pink) Logistics (When I'm bored and want free WP)
-Brief Dust514/Eve history Eve player since 2005 or so. Dust player since the beginning of April 201.
-Personal favorites of Dust514 Crushing people with dropships, Firing LAV out of forge guns (You had to be there to believe it) Teamkilling in creative ways. Craterlake. Craterlake. Craterlake. (Someone told me if I look into a mirror and say it three times, craterlake would come back. They lied :S )
-Personal beefs with Dust514 'Grass is greener' Syndrome. CCP has been horrible with promising us the moon and giving us a crayon sketch when we could've at least had an awesome DSLR picture, while they worked on building a rocket. (And expecting us to be grateful for it) CCP's communication with the playerbase has been horrid... and that's something we're really trying to drill into their heads that they need to talk more. Not just talk more... Actually provide specific details when they talk whenever possible, instead of vague nonanswers. Suddenly most of these issues that people rage about will never be issues again because people will have told CCP "Hey, that's a bad idea, but if you tweak the idea every so slightly in X way... it becomes amazing" weeks/months before the thing actually hits the live build. As opposed to that idea hitting live with no explanation or communication and everyone raging for months until it's fixed.
-Primary responsibilities on the CPM: Mediate, mostly. As the only unaffiliated CPM I mostly tell the others when they are getting too attached to an issue and keep everyone's head cool. (They in turn do the same if I seem too attached) Other than that, I do my best to talk to as many people in the community about any subject they want to talk to me about. I'm a total information monger, so I like to be in the loop for just about everything and know exactly who I can talk to if I need specific Info.
-Personal goals as a CPM representative: My personal goal is to ensure that all Future CPM(s) never have to suffer from inactive/nonproductive members. That has been the 'downfall' of the Eve CSM in my eyes. They've always had to put up with 'useless' members, and I am doing my best to ensure that future councils for dust are 100% active (For better or worse) In my eyes, one of the reasons it's been so hard for the EVE CSM to gain traction and taken them years to do so, is because none of them had 100% member contribution. Being a popularity contest won out over the usefulness of the councils as a whole, and the CSM became 'something that's where when things go wrong' as opposed to a useful tool throughout the cycle. This has only recently truly started to change, and even then... much slower than it could have.
CPM0 has already shown the benefits of having a 100% active member base. While many issues are hotly contested, every side of them is covered and debated, and solutions/compromises in most cases that everyone can agree on are reached, and CCP is given proper, timely response from a solidified (or split, but clarified) stance, without having to wait to see if an inactive member is actually going to contribute or not.
I am very wary of the CPM becoming more about politics and who is on the council, than what the council is doing. I don't believe that CPM should be a prestigous position that people can seek just because they want the 'perks'. In my mind, people who aren't going to pull their weight and just want public recognition of their popularity can stick to farming like threads in the locker room. The only people who should be eligible for this position are people who've put the work in and can back up that claim, Not people who'll simply promise to do the work in future.
That being said : You can take this statement as an immutable promise : No matter how things turn out, this will be my only term as a CPM member, ever.
A lot of my thoughts on the selection process will be controversial, and can easily be made to seem as if I want to ensure I always have a seat. Thus you have my promise, that I make these suggestions not for my own good, but the good of the council.
-Times you are on (approx is fine) Pretty much any time. Sleep is for the weak. I can pretty much always be reached via skype or IRC, if you don't see me ingame.
-Your personal requests to the community Talk to me, about anything you want. Even if it doesn't have anything to do with dust. Knowing the people who're telling me stuff helps me understand where they're coming from and why they are telling me what they are telling me! Context is massively important during a feedback process, and more context is never a bad thing.
Make good, constructive posts on the forums. Even if it seems like no one is reading it at the time. Good posts are always read. Always. It doesn't matter if you don't get a gillion likes. A good idea is still a good idea even if it gets buried with spam threads within an hour, and I promise you that it WILL be seen and given weight it deserves. (If you feel your thread has been somehow missed, just mail us ingame with the topic name, or link it to us on twitter, etc. )
-Additional Statement At the end of the day, the CPM is only as effective as the people behind it. (Our peers in the playerbase, and CCP) Both sides need to actually want to use the CPM for it to be a positive thing. CCP's really been receptive, as has most of the playerbase which is awesome. CPM0 Hit the ground running after Uprising landed on fire. After hearing CCP's response plan, I'm optimistic for the future of Dust for the first time in months. I hope others who had doubts will start to share that sentiment once they see that CCP seems to have finally gotten the message we tried so hard and for so long to get them to hear! |
