I have been thinking of switching from the shields and the python over to the incubus and armor.
Is the speed difference still as noticeable with the ADS?
Incubus is better, higher ehp, feels more precise in how it controls (hard to explain, it's just how it feels to me), and for the speed, it sits somewhere between the eryx and the python, leaning to the python side. I fly both, I've been flying pythons since uprising hit and I specced into the incubus today, it's such a joy to fly. Went down to 17 armour at one point and my repper pulled me back, that said there's something scary about armour tanking, it's the lack of a safety net that shield tanking has.
Oh and my incubus was flying around with a 19% speed reduction due to armour plates. |

Oh and my incubus was flying around with a 19% speed reduction due to armour plates. Can you take 2 proto FG shots back-to-back without repping? Have yet to run into a proto forge gun, yet alone let it shoot me twice, and I doubt anything but the tankiest HAV (or logi LAV) could take 2 proto forge gun shots without dying.
And while swarms do reduced damage against shields, your real worry in a dropship is railguns and forge guns. In which cases higher HP is more important since they both have 100% effectiveness against shields and armour.
And while its noticeable, it's not a huge difference, though a slight change in your flying style is needed. I'd say caldari dropships are more of a last minute turn and can change directions rapidly, the gallente dropships are more about planning your course and anticipating your turns. Overall I'd say that the gallente dropship feel more graceful while the caldari dropships are all hard turns and power.
And I wasn't arguing, I was trying to persuade you of the greatness that is gallente. |

Heh, "letting" them hit you sometimes isn't an option. I was firing on a LAV headed to an objective, 2 heavies jumped out with FGs and started charging. I immediately tried to bugger out and juke as best I could, but I pretty much got insta-gibbed. Wasn't pretty. Those 2 heavies could keep the skies completely clear all by themselves. That's true did run into a forge gun though, standard from the looks of its damage, I'd say it would need 4-5 shots to kill me. Just a guess though, what I know for sure is that it would have killed my python fit in less than that for sure. |

High slots 1x active fuel injector 1x ward shield amp
Low slots 2x 60mm nano crystalline plates 1x light IG armour repper 1X power grid extender
Turrets 2x st fragmented missiles 1x XT accelerated missiles
Total EHP is around 4k, and the fitting costs less than 900k. |

I am waiting for my respec to go into Incubus instead of the Python, the main reason is durability. It will be nice to have an armor rep without gimping my setup. Hoping my respec comes soon, had my ticket in on the 17th. I am nervous and wondering if I should send another request in just in case. Email them, like you I sent in a ticket first, after getting no response for a week I emailed them, got a response back inside 3 days. And if you have a friend who has an incubus, ask if you can try it, it flys differently to the python. |

And if you have a friend who has an incubus, ask if you can try it, it flys differently to the python. I am guessing it flies "heavier" than the Python. Is the email [email protected]? Thanks again for the assistance. Why is it the pilots always seem to be the most "level headed" folk on the forum? "There are old pilots and bold pilots, but few if any, old bold pilots". Hot head, aggressive people go for the slayer role or HAV's because their the main killers on the battlefield, piloting requires a more reserved, cautious attitude.
And for the record my python fit is (yes I fly both, that is how much sp I have into dropships)
High slots 3x aziotropic ward extenders 1x active fuel injector
Low slots 2x local power system
Turrets 2x st fragmented missiles 1x XT accelerated missiles.
And yep, that's the email. And while the incubus fly heavier than the python, I would also say it flies more gracefully as well. |

But if they gave me a good dogfight, I will happily die to them, or send their flaming remains falling to the ground, |

Turrets 2x st fragmented missiles 1x XT accelerated missiles. I ran that exact setup for awhile. I really liked having the fuel injector, but I've been getting along pretty well without it now. I just hated waiting around so long for shields to recharge once I got hit. Current setup... High Slots Azeotropic Ward Extenders x2 Ward Shield Amplifier Light Clarity Ward Shield Booster Low Slots Light Payload Control System II x2 (dmg mods) Turrets XT-1 Fragmented Missle (the fragmented one has larger splash, helps a lot hitting infantry) ST-1 Fragmented Missle x2 With skills this puts me at... 2571 shields 770 armor ~26% dmg reduction to shields (assuming skills and modules are additive?) I feel a little bad shooting down other dropships, but the majority of them are MLT ships, and die SO EASILY. Nice setup, I've never really been a fan of damage mods, always proffered to maximize my tank. Anyway my current incubus setup is
High slots 1x clarity ward shield booster 1x aziotropic extender
Slow slots 1x power diagnostic system 2x 60mm polycrystalline plates 1x light IG armour repper
Turrets 1x XT accelerated missiles 2x ST fragmented missiles
This give me 1400 shields (rough rounding) with a 10% resist due to skills 3200 armour (rough rounding again) with a 10% resist due to skills Movement penalty of 19%
Had a couple of dogfight against other ADS, won all of them, but I've come to the conclusion that for A2A fighting the python is superior, it can just maneuver and gain height so much better, the only reason I won my fights against those pythons was because A) the pilot seemed to be a rookie, he let me gain altitude on him easily and didn't fall back when I killed his shields (well he tried but I got him before he got anywhere) B) made a mistake and ended up having collision damage taking him down to half armour, I promptly pounced on him and sent him tumbling to the ground.
But in the case of b were I was up against a good pilot he was constantly above me, hammering me with cycled missiles, I really struggled against him, did manage to take his shields out of couple of times, but then I managed to miss all my shots so he got away.
I would say that the python due to its higher movement speed is better suited to A2A while the gallente's ability to tank and general more precise feel in the handling makes it better suited for A2G combat. |

Missiles do increased damage against armour so their quite annoying to go against. And he collided with a tower in his redline, managed to get him before his shields regenerated. Main downside is the speed of the incubus, that python was constantly above me hammering at me, I couldn't get above him at all, if it wasn't for his crash that fight would probably have ended in a draw. |

See, in a Python it is about letting them hit you. You can bob and weave in a Python. Plus, I can throw 2 damage mods on it and my accelerated missiles will wreck some sh*t. My accelerated missiles wreck **** without them, definitely one of the best turrets out there. Anyway I pulled off what might have been one of my greatest shots ever, I'd been chasing down a free LAV and had almost killed it, it veered to drive into the city (you know the one with the cannon structure and big ring by B) just as he drove under cover where I couldn't follow. I fired a shot off as I turned my ADS to stop from crashing into the buildings, shot had a direct impact on the LAV, killing it. |
