Not directly DUST related, but it will affect your pilots providing orbital support and so I want to make sure you are all aware of this. Not really a change, just communicating something that everyone should know: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=3101297 |

This might be nice for the newbies in my corp who want to OB, but most people will have their overviews done right anyway (hopefully). |

Most people don't know this satellite exists to add to their overview. |

Hrm, I suppose that's true actually. I guess it means more kills in Molden Heath. |

No, but that also has no effect on this. That was specifically built for the Fanfest tournament and was... well maybe a bit hackey. We are looking at possibly getting that done proper somewhere in our roadmap though as it is pretty damn awesome. |

This is basically CCP giving a big F U to all the people in EVE that want to bomb PC or Merc battles.
CCP FoxFour wrote:"These satellites however can be added to your overview profile and will only show up on the overview if there is a pilot on grid with the satellite." So they want people to not be able to bomb anything at all unless you are in a system all by yourself. Considering that you need to stay connected to the district and can't go outside of 10km and have special ammo than can only fire on DUST battles. Even if you bring a fleet to protect the bombing ship everyone is going to know what one it is just because of the restrictions that it is under. DUMB change FoxFour. REAL DUMB. |

but 10km radius is not fun. If you want to make the feature appealing to players who pvp in combat fitt ships it won't work. Since all you create is the incentive to use throw-away ships for OB with alts. You don't even have to fitt damage mods since they don't matter, so take the cheapest guns you can find and place your alt at the beacon. (some even fitt cloaks for unknown reasons since the cloak alone costs almost as much as the entire ship with the guns)
having satellites on the overview is fine, 10km activation radius and the irrelevance of your fitting or skill is not. Its one of the cases where ccp fixes something the wrong way, don't tighten the radius to make it riskier... give players a reason to stay and fight.

What good do friends do when all the enemy has to do is jump into system, see someone is on beacon and then warp at 70 with an alpha fleet and just pop everything that is sitting on the beacon? Hey guys lets make it EASIER for alphanados in low and null to find targets. THAT sounds like a good idea. |

("fix" because I don't see this as a big problem...seriously, even in low you should still have some sort of scouting and intelligence going on when you're doing something like OBing. Scout sees enemy fleet jump into system; everyone should get to safety if they can't fight, right? Or does that make too much sense?)
What happens when they decide to jump in Capitals? Or are you just going to run away from them before they can get their locks off...? |

Because, before this change the only people that would know the destination would be the people involved in the fight. Now you are going to have every tom **** and harry that sees the beacon warping in without so much as even needing to open their scanner. I mean why even have a D-scan anymore what with CCP making everything in the game a warpable icon on your OV. Just another way that they are dumbing EVE down. |

the satellites should turn on everyones overview as long as any eve OR dust player is there.
That way it doesn't give away that an eve pilot is there but it does tell everyone in system war is going on in some fashion over there. |

Quote:These satellites are very special celestial objects. Most celestial objects in space are either on your overview or not. If they are added to your overview profile they show up on the overivew, if not they don't. Simple. These satellites however can be added to your overview profile and will only show up on the overview if there is a pilot on grid with the satellite. You guys can figure out why that is special, in a very useful way. .... Wouldn't want pilots sitting in orbit of a district bored while waiting to provide that orbital bombardment support.
Haha, this is interesting.
The issue this is attempting to solve: OB pilots spending a lot of time floating over a district doing nothing waiting for that beacon to come in, so they can have five seconds of gameplay shooting an enemy they don't see blowup, is a very notable problem. I'd been thinking about creating a thread asking for CCP to add more ways for capilers to interact with the Dust fights (and I still think this is a good idea), but this? Being over a district now sends out a massive "Come at me, Bro!" signal to every predator in a low-sec system? Haha, yeah; that will successfully give OB pilots something to hold their attention.
Of course that being said, though, I'd like to echo the concerns others have brought up about this making casual OB, or small corp OB, too dangerous too engage in. I mean the point of this change is to make the act of floating over a district shooting bunnies more interesting/fun right? If this isn't balanced right it could have the counter effect of making OB highly dangerous with little gain.

Not only does it lessen OB from "insta predator magnet" to "plausible trouble". But it also lets EVE players in general know when and where district fights are going down, which is a very needed feature right now. |

The satellites were already there. Everybody that was hunting for people doing OBs had them already on and had this information available to them. This change is about giving the EVE/DUST link a bit more general EVE population visibility and even that is only in the areas where districts have already been added ie. Molden Heath and FW systems. If it really is a big F U that F U was given already depending on your point of view on the date of migration to Tranquility or the day Planetary Conquest was switched on.
It is elementary level tactical thinking how to not have just one district satellite light up for enemies jumping into system. Some basic low sec survival skills of watching the local and dscan for enemies and bailing out as necessary might also become handy. |

Some basic low sec survival skills of watching the local and dscan for enemies and bailing out as necessary might also become handy. No, if you were above a district and someone wanted to kill you they had to either fly to/D-scan all the districts or probe you down then warp to you. Or, if they were in support of the opposite team in the match they would already know where you were. This was balanced because you could stay above a district in support of your mercs watching your scan and most times noone would come looking for you, even though all they needed to do was open D-scan and find you on the planet. But now, every "1337 g4nk574r" wannabe pirate in EVE is going to know that there is someone on a district and they get a guided tour right to where they are. It is the dumbing down of EVE. I was against letting neutrals see FW plex on OV because of the same reason. It makes no sense that anyone would broadcast a position to just everyone. Could you imagine how fast people would be slaughtered in a real war if they were pinging their GPS to just anyone that is around? It's dumb, it makes no sense from a lore standpoint, and anyone wanting to OB from now on better bring a capital with proper support just to even get the chance to fire it off when your mercs call for it.
See CCP wants things to always be like the battle for caldari prime, or battle for asakia, but guess what CCP, most people don't want every pilot in the universe shitting up their battle over a district that will only last 20 minutes. Some people want to just play the game and then move on. If I get gate camped or someone pops in on me after scanning me down, good I accepted that possible fate when I set out to do what I do. But this just willy-nilly adding of icons to the OV needs to stop. Or why not just do away with the scanner all together and just make everything, even cloaked ships, a warpable icon on the OV.

I have not played eve in a very ling time so forgive my ignorance of some of the game mechanics.
So if I was an eve pilot and I set up on one of these satellites I would become visible to anyone in the system. If this is true then man that makes OBing dangerous. I would definitely want to get in an elite ship with a bunch of corp mates also in elite ships andgo set up on one of these things.
All of my buddies would run cloaks except for me. We wait for the gank squads to come around and target my ship and oops not some weak OB equipped ship and oh crap theres his friends.
Would this be a workable tactic? Again I'm not up on eve game mechanics so maybe there is something important I'm missing that makes this invalid, if so please correct me. If not then this makes it just as dangerous to |
