Quote:These satellites are very special celestial objects. Most celestial objects in space are either on your overview or not. If they are added to your overview profile they show up on the overivew, if not they don't. Simple. These satellites however can be added to your overview profile and will only show up on the overview if there is a pilot on grid with the satellite. You guys can figure out why that is special, in a very useful way. .... Wouldn't want pilots sitting in orbit of a district bored while waiting to provide that orbital bombardment support.
Haha, this is interesting.
The issue this is attempting to solve: OB pilots spending a lot of time floating over a district doing nothing waiting for that beacon to come in, so they can have five seconds of gameplay shooting an enemy they don't see blowup, is a very notable problem. I'd been thinking about creating a thread asking for CCP to add more ways for capilers to interact with the Dust fights (and I still think this is a good idea), but this? Being over a district now sends out a massive "Come at me, Bro!" signal to every predator in a low-sec system? Haha, yeah; that will successfully give OB pilots something to hold their attention.
Of course that being said, though, I'd like to echo the concerns others have brought up about this making casual OB, or small corp OB, too dangerous too engage in. I mean the point of this change is to make the act of floating over a district shooting bunnies more interesting/fun right? If this isn't balanced right it could have the counter effect of making OB highly dangerous with little gain.

That way it doesn't give away that an eve pilot is there but it does tell everyone in system war is going on in some fashion over there. I really like this variant. Not only does it lessen OB from "insta predator magnet" to "plausible trouble". But it also lets EVE players in general know when and where district fights are going down, which is a very needed feature right now. |
