ADAM-OF-EVE wrote:DUST Fiend wrote:The fact that CCP has milked this community for as much money as it has already with a game that looks like this at "launch" makes me have uncomfortable faith in their ability to keep this game afloat :/ the failure of many a good game has been awesome gfx and crap everything else. ccp works in reverse and in the case of eve it worked and i have no doubt at all they will succeed with dust. eve is not a finished game. it has been in development for more than 10 years and will be until the servers get turned off sometime in the distant future. I'm certain dust will follow suit
I don't think he was referring to the graphics.
the graphics are, by far, the least of the game's myriad of major issues. |

Step 3: Realize CCP have sunk too much time and effort to LET DUST die. Step 4: Give me your stuff. Because this joke never gets old. Step 5: Uninstall the game and go away.
The only problem I see is that these sort of declines are a bit of a feedback loop. How long will players keep playing a game that is fundamentally broken and clearly unfinished? How low does the player count have to go before CCP stops devoting man hours to a sinking ship?
Just because they've had success with ONE game doesn't mean they will be successful with everything else they do.
The promise of this game is there, and it's why most of us are here, but at what point does the return in the investment stop paying the bills? If there are only say, 500 people online at any given time, how much money will they be willing to spend on further development? I mean, the game is already being developed at a snail's pace, much slower and it might as well be considered to have come to a complete halt.
The game has been in beta for well over a year, and we still basically have 4 maps, half the gear, and so much lag, frame rate problems, glitches, bugs, etc that it's rare to get an entire squad of six into more than 1 or 2 matches in a row without someone having game breaking problems. If it takes them another 3-6 months just to iron this out (as a realistic timetable based on the last year of development), how may people will be left shooting each other with TACs on these 4 maps?
The promise of "SOON" can only last so long when it's in regards to basic playability. |

But essentially, there are 5-6 Ateams, and when sh!t gets real in PC, that's all that will play. Now, that's all good, until PC boils down to 2 corps/alliances. Then it'll be the same fight, with the same teams, over and over.
Without more players at the nOOb level there will NEVER be enough proper competition to keep this game alive. Say 1/50 players is "competative" and puts up with Dust. And bothers to do PC against higher SP, top gear, HIGHLY experienced Ateams. That's 800 players joining the game just to get a new team to play vs any of the big boys.
I just don't think the game can support itself without PvE and industry. People can mess about with that stuff while gaining SP, forming contacts ect. PC isn't "competative battles" it's a lucky dip to see who gets the servers. But I continue to play, because of the contacts I have made over the last year. It's kinda like all the old MAG beta vets who still put it on now and again.
I think that In the long term, Dust is going to struggle to attract those new players. There's really nothing very attractive about Dust with 3 exceptions. Chat, constant clan battles, and "potential". I have to agree about the "A" teams and PC race, as well as PvE and mining/industry. Also, I thought you said you deleted this game from your PS3 for good and that you could delete your character because Dust no longer existed on your PS3?
The Siren's Song that is Dust 514 is a powerful one. The cries of "SOON" have crashed many a Merc against the rocky outcroppings of bugs, glitches, lag, and poor gameplay time and time again.
I have to agree with Tony in a way. Right now, the "elite" of Dust 514 are just the best of the worst. No one who really likes FPS is spending much time with this game, because it's in such a bad state. Owning districts in PC is like winning a medal in the special olympics.

KingBabar wrote:Well they do play but since they don't own any districts, it can hardly be said that they're in Dust.
Technically correct is the best kind of correct.
lol @ PC.
So to be "in Dust" you have to devote your corp to daily excursions into broken gameplay?

BASSMEANT wrote:all the "best" players made it to their protoad gear.
then they got beat by better players using lower gear. they couldn't HTFU
they couldn't adapt. they just died.
so they whined. they got the weapons nerfed. they got the ranges nerfed.
because in reality... they are all cod players. they don't know it, but they are. their gameplay is not real smart. it's zerg or zerg lite.
but the REAL reality is they just aren't good with a gun. so they had to have the medium range gun game nerfed. it's all 20 feet or nothing for them because they get out gunned. because they can't adapt. because they can't HTFU. they can just beg for nerfs.
so once again, another good idea is ruined by the same codbois that ruined mag.
all because they get beat by better gamers and then blame the gear.
and now... ironically... once they get the nerfs, all they do is lean on the HTFU motto.
i know, right?
